Introduction:

This is a similar game to the classic Columns on the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis machine, but with a difference. In Columns you had to arrange different coloured blocks that dropped down so you had three or more of the same colour to make them disappear. In this game little people fall from the top of the screen wearing different coloured clothes.

Gameplay:

So far it might not sound that much different to Columns at all. However, the main difference in this game is that you can twist the screen around 90 degrees to the left or right by pressing the A or B button. When you do this, the little people fall down to the bottom of the screen, but are obviously arranged in a different way. You have a couple of seconds to do this after each set of people fall down so you have to act fast and try to get them all in the correct order so that when more of them fall from the top you can make a row of three people. Sometimes you can make a row of three people simply by turning the screen to the left or right once. An arrow telling you which direction to turn will occasionally appear to let you know when you can do this. There are power-ups that appear now and then and have different effects. Some just give you extra points, while others get rid of an entire vertical row of people for you and one of them makes the screen spin around and wipes out an horizontal line for you.

Graphics & Sound:

I never expect great graphics in most puzzle games, but this game really is very plain. If I could give the graphics 10/10 for functionality then I would, but realistically they aren't amazing, but they do their job very well. This is only a 40-megabit game anyway, so I didn't expect them to be earth shatteringly good.

There aren't any surprises as far as the sound goes either, although the music can be extremely annoying. I don't usually do this, but while I played Gururin I put some other music on. Otherwise I would have gone insane after listening to it for too long!

Overall:

This game can be fairly enjoyable for a while, but there are far better puzzle games on the Neo Geo. You do get a couple of game play options, one where you play on your own, one where you play split screen against the computer and one where you can play against a friend, but it doesn't add much to the replay value. It can be quite hard too and usually you end up scoring points totally by accident as you frantically spin the screen around.

If you are a fan of puzzle games then give this one a try, but don't expect it to hold your interest for as long as the other better puzzle games out there.

Graphics: 6/10
Sound: 4/10
Game play: 6/10
