Review 1 - by Greg Nye

Introduction:

Ok, a looooong time ago, there was a huuuge war on the planet Elscea. The planet would have been destroyed by the chaos, but thankfully a laaaarge (are these stretched words getting annoying? I'll stop) meteor, known as Unitice, landed on the continent of Tridiss. The meteor released crystals called Unitron, which were extremely powerful. The kingdom of Rhafiace used these crystalss to create weapons called Unitron robots. These robots helped to bring peace back to the planet of Elscea.

Peace remains on Elscea for 199 years. People now use Unitron robots in tournaments, as a sport or to gain money. These people are called Unitron masters. Every Unitron master's goal is to become the "Master of Masters."

You decide to become a Unitron Master too, along with your partner, who is also your engineer. Now you must battle your Unitron against other Unitron masters to gain the ultimate goal. Along the way, you will have to improve your Unitron by building new weapons and purchasing better parts. But once you become the Master of Masters, a much greater challenge awaits you, deep under the continent of Rhafiace. Now its up to you and your Unitron to stop this force, and maybe even save the entire planet from total destruction.

The Good Stuff:

At first, I wasn't too sure about this game. But the cover looked really cool, and I needed a new game to play while flew on the plane during my spring break vacation. So I paid the decent $30.00. Once I turned the game on, I was hooked. The music was awesome, the graphics kicked Game Boy's ass, and I really enjoyed having the ability to choose my own character and name him and the engineer. You could choose between different races of people, and you could decide whether you wanted your Unitron master to be male or female, as well as the engineer.

The game has some very cool features. The best one is that you can build your own weapons by combining weapons with a certain type of material. There are many different combinations. Every time you equip a different weapon, the Unitron's arm changes. You can equip up to two different weapons. Some weapons are more powerful than others, and some are either weak or strong against certain monsters. You can also add different parts to make your Unitron stronger. These can be either purchased, or found in dungeons.

It didn't take me long to figure out how to play, either. I quickly learned how to select items, build weapons, talk to people and fight. The controls are very comfortable, and easy to remember, even if you haven't played in a while. Although it's a lot more complicated than Pokemon, anyone should be able to play it.

The Bad Stuff

Despite all of the games qualities, it has it's flaws just like any other game. First of all, I don't feel that the Unitron master and the engineer have enough of a personality. In fact, the engineer is the only one who ever says anything! I wish they would show some conversations or something, man. But, I guess I can't complain too much about it, since Ash never says anything in the Pokemon games, either.

I also feel that the game is too easy. I went on a nine-day trip during my spring break, and I beat the game on the eighth day, and I played about two hours a day. Once you get all of the best armor and weapons and learn how to use them, you are unstoppable. The enemies get a little tougher after you beat the game, but they are still no challenge for someone who's just ok at RPGs.

Graphics: 9.5/10
Sound: 10/10
Difficulty: 6.5/10
Replay Value: 8/10

Overall Rating: 9/10

Despite the game being too easy and the main two characters not having enough to say, this is definitely a must have for the NeoGeo Pocket, especially if you are an RPG fan.
