Review Introduction:

The Neo Geo doesn't have all that many platform games, so I thought that I would give this one a try. In this game you play as a guy called Roddy (or a girl called Cathy in two player mode) can punch with an arm that can stretch across the screen. You move from left to right and defeat enemies by either hitting them with your fist or by jumping on their heads (What an original idea!). Sound familiar? Well it is basically a bog standard platform game, but it does have one or two original (ish) features.

Gameplay:

First of all, it is possible to change between two planes of movement by pressing the button C. You need to do this to get to certain enemies or items. You can pick up weapons (guns etc.) to use on your enemies and also get inside a little mecha type thing that can pick up and throw enemies. O.K., there is nothing all that original there but it is kinda cool. Even cooler, when your mech gets destroyed you can pick up pieces of the wreckage and throw them at your enemies! Again nothing amazing, but the novelty value of beating up a bad guy with the leg of a robot is great! You can also do special moves such as fireballs and stuff. You will notice that all these moves have been stolen from characters in games like Fatal Fury and Art of Fighting.

Graphics & Sound:

This isn't the best example of graphics you will find on the Neo Geo, but it still looks quite nice. It's very colourful, there's lot's of detail on the backgrounds, and the animation is fairly passable I guess. There's a lot of parallax scrolling too, which adds a good feeling of depth to the stages. The music and sound effects are your average platform game fare. In fact some of the music will probably drive you nuts after a while.

Overall:

Overall this game is decent, although very average. It can be fun for a while especially in two player mode, but it does get boring very fast. The game is also very easy and will not take you very long to complete. However, if you really want to play a platform game, you could do worse than try this.

Graphics: 7/10
Sound: 6/10
Game play: 6.5/10
Replay Value: 5/10

Overall Rating: 6/10
