This was one of the first few Neo Geo games that SNK released. Super Spy is kind of a first person shoot 'em up, where the aim is to move left and right across the screen and kick/punch/shoot/stab your opponents. You frequently get to enter doors that either lead to more bad guys to kill or to people that give you advice or occasionally extra energy or extra weapons such a machine gun. That's all there is to it really. This is an old game so the graphics are dated but I imagine that they were not too bad at all back in 1990. Obviously because of the limitations of the machine, you only sidestep left and right and can't rotate, unlike a proper first person shooter. However you do occasionally you get to move forwards down some corridors, which is achieved, via a very weird looking scaling effect! You can also damage items in the background such as smashing the windows with a well-placed shot, which is a nice effect. The main problem with the backgrounds though is that they are very drab and boring to look at. The sound effects that accompany all this death and destruction are OK, but the music does tend to annoy you after a while. Not the Neo Geo sound-chips finest moment then…

Overall, while this is a very old and dated game it is still fun to play, just very limited. I couldn't recommend anyone to purchase it really, unless they happened to be a collector. Not so "Super" after all!

Crossed Swords
A similar game which uses a third person view instead. It is far from excellent in my opinion, but is also fun for a limited time.
