Review Introduction:

A crazy scientist has created an army of robots and programmed them to capture humans. He plans to use their brains to help him take control of the world. Two guys have turned themselves into Cyborg's to ruin his plans and save all of the citizens that he has captured.

The Good Stuff:

When I first got this game, I had no idea what it was about, except for the fact that it was a beat 'em up game like Final Fight. It was the first game that I had gotten for my Neo-Geo arcade machine, and I was just hoping that it would be decent. As soon as the game came up, I was already pleased with it. The music sounded really good, and the characters looked like they were straight outta one of those futuristic movies like Terminator or Cyborg. The graphics also looked great considering that the game was only 45 Megs.

I really liked the game play of the game. You could do a lot more than just go up to a bad guy and punch the crap out of him. One of coolest things is the ability to transform. When you pick up a certain power-up, your character is transformed into a car. You become invincible for about 15 seconds and can turn the baddies into road kill. Another feature that I liked about the game was the special moves. There are three different levels of special moves that you can perform, and you could do them a total of five times before your power bar runs out. You can charge it back up by collecting power-ups. Robo Army isn't the best game of its genre, but it is decent. It makes up for some of its flaws by adding new features that aren't in any other beat 'em up games.

The Bad Stuff:

Even though Robo Army is a good game, it has many flaws. Like most beat 'em up games, there was not a variety of enemies to fight. I got very bored from fighting the same enemies over and over. Some of the bosses were very weak, and only took about 15 seconds to kill. I also found Robo Army to be too short. It took me only about 45 minutes to beat the game, and for Final Fight it takes a couple of hours.
