Review Introduction:

This is a nice sequel to the original game. Once again, you can find this game on almost every format imaginable, from the Neo Geo, to the Playstation, to the N64, to Game Boy. The reason for its popularity is that it is a nice and simple puzzle game, which like the original (and like many puzzle games) is extremely addictive.

Gameplay:

You probably already know the basic idea of this game by now, but if not here goes: You have to aim and fire various coloured bubbles so that you get three or more in a row. Those bubbles then fall off the screen and once you have got rid of all the bubbles you move onto the next stage. This is all done against a strict time limit, because every now and then the bubbles move down and if they reach the bottom then it is game over.

In this version you get two different game-play modes. The first is the standard puzzle mode, where you just burst all the bubbles to move onto the next stage. Unlike the first game you now get a level select after you clear a few stages. The second mode is the battle mode where the screen is split in half and you play against the CPU. In this mode you have to work quickly, because when you burst bubbles they get added on to your opponents screen and vice versa. Once your opponent's bubbles pass the bottom of the screen, you win and move onto the next stage.

Graphics:

If you have already played any PB game then you will know what to expect graphically. Being a puzzle game, it isn't going to be amazing, but the graphics are still nice and play their part well. There are a variety of different backgrounds for the different stages and also some little animations before each stage on the battle mode, where you see your character come face to face with his opponent. These are very cutesy but are sometimes quite funny. The only fault I have is that the backgrounds can sometimes make things a little less clear then they were in the first game (with its very simple backdrops), but it's not so bad that it makes it unplayable.

Sound effects & Music:

The sound in this game is also very cutesy, but I really like it. Admittedly, if you had to listen to it for too long it would probably drive you insane, but there are quite a few different pieces of music for each stage, all of which are very cool. I especially like the remix of the original music. Overall, the sound in this game is very good!

Overall:

In the same way as most other games in this genre, this game is very addictive and like the first game you will wonder why you are constantly drawn back for “just one more go”. However, if you are not a fan of puzzle games, then don't bother with this because it's not going to change your mind. If you do like them then you really should get this game, as it is very enjoyable.
