Review Introduction:

Oh come on! You are reading a review of this game? You must have heard of this game by now. It goes by two names, either Puzzle Bobble (Japanese version) or Bust A Move (US Version) and you may recognize the two little dragon characters in this game who are from Bubble Bobble. Apart from the Neo Geo version it has been ported to lots of other machines, including the Playstation, Nintendo 64, Game Boy and many others… this game ranks up there with the other classic 16 bit game “Lemmings” for being ported to a whole host of different systems.

Gameplay:

In case you don't already know, the idea behind Puzzle Bobble is that you have a screen full of different coloured bubbles and you must shoot more bubbles up towards them. When you join 3 or more bubbles up they burst and fall to the bottom of the screen. Once you have bust all of them you move on to the next stage. Every now and then the bubbles get lower, and if they reach the bottom of the screen its game over, so you need to work fast. Sound simple? That's because it is… which is one of the games biggest plus points!

Graphics & Sound:

Graphically it is fine; I mean, there is only so much you can do with a bunch of bubbles right? Sound wise there is only a couple of different tunes but they do suit the game and I promise you will be humming them hours after you turn the game off! In fact, I've had the theme tune to this game as a ring tone on my mobile phone for a while now, it's great :)

It's only a small cartridge and that considered it isn't bad.

Overall:

This game falls into the same category as a lot of Puzzle games. It may be very simple, but once you start playing you just can't stop. You just have to have “one more go” to beat that stage you are on. Which is a bit of a pain if you are in the arcade because you keep pumping money into that slot. In the past I could never see why people around here stayed for hours in an arcade spending all of their money on it, but when I actually tried it I realised why! The two-player mode is just as fun too, where you have to bust all your bubbles before the other player.

If you like puzzle games you will like this. If you haven't played it yet, then don't waste any time in trying it out!
