I'm really not surprised at all to see KOF '96 top the charts, nor am I surprised to see KOF '98 right up there. But KOF 2002 second? Not sure who has been voting for that game, but it's not one I would consider to be a classic, good as much of the music is.

A few people voted for 2001 as well... certainly not one I would choose myself, but to each their own I guess! I would have voted for 2000 way above that, but that received no votes at all. Very surprising. As for my own choice? Well, I voted for KOF '96, but '99 still gets an honourable mention in my opinion because it has some of the best backgrounds and music in any KOF if you ask me. Then again, almost all of the games in the series have been blessed with an excellent OST & AST really.

Perhaps superceded by Fatal Fury Special, but still a great game. Check out the discussion thread linked below and also be sure to post your high scores on this game in the high score challenge forum, as soon as priest gets the high score thread online! :)

Retroware TV Episode 11: SNK/NeoGeo History

Retrowave TV have uploaded an episode that covers history of the Neo Geo and SNK, right from their early arcade and NES titles, all the way up to more recent times. There are a few things that I don't think are quite accurate, but for the most part it's a very entertaining watch and they certainly know their stuff better than some other people I have seen cover SNK in videos and articles. Definitely watch it if you are relatively new to SNK, or if you don't know much about their earlier history, although it's worth it for veterans too!

Site Survey Results

So, it's been a few weeks since I put the survey up on the site, and people have stopped responding to it now. It's time to discuss the results, and then try to do a few things to improve the site in the ways you guys have suggested! Obviously time is always limited but I'll try to do what I can. Legend of Chun Li Trailer

I figured this will be of interest to most fighting games fans so I'm going to post it on the front page - I know I haven't posted many updates on KOF XII developments recently, but that was down to me being away a lot during the festive season... just because this is a Capcom update, dont go thinking I'm switching sides! ;)

Anyways, here is the first trailer for the new Street Fighter movie: The Legend of Chun Li. It's from the Japanese website so the voiceover is not in English, but even if you don't speak the language you'll get the gist of what's happening:

I'm going to just repeat what I have already said on the forums, by saying that while this film looks better than the original SF2 movie, you'd pretty much have to bend the laws of space and time to make a film worse than that. It will basically have nothing to do with the game storyline wise, but it could still be entertaining.

Thoughts? Head to the thread on the forums and let us know what you think. I wonder how long before we see the first KOF movie trailer... I know it only started shooting in November so it will be some time, but will KOF make a better transition than it's rival? I'm still going to look at it in one way for now: both films will be TERRIBLE! At least that way I can't be disappointed, but I might be mildy suprised at least. Time will tell! ;)

The King of Fighters '95 - Game of the Week

Again, I know updates have been pretty thin on the ground over the past 7 days - I have a few personal situations going on right now but also the festive season has taken me away from the PC quite a lot. I won't let the GotW updates slip like I have before though and I'll be back to posting more news very soon!

It has been a while since we covered a KOF game, so here's the next one on the list! A damn fine one it is too, and if you prefer your fighters "old-school", it is a must!

Happy Christmas!

With another year almost over, I'd like to wish you all a very Happy Christmas 2008! With any luck tomorrow morning you'll all be spending time with your loved ones, having fun, and hopefully opening a few special presents from Santa with some SNK goodness in them! I'm actually going to have a pretty quiet Christmas this year, I'll be saving the real party for New Years Eve. Definitely looking forward to cramming my face with Turkey though and getting pretty darned drunk with any luck. I have a bottle of Jagermeister here with my name on it... can't wait! :D

Anyway, whatever you are doing, have a wonderful time everyone!

King of the Monsters - Game of the Week

Sorry that updates have a been a bit thin on the ground for the past few days, I have not been online as much as I would have liked. Nevertheless, here is this weeks Game of the Week, hope you enjoy it!

Another old game... but it really is a classic in my opinion! This is one of the games that convinced that one day I had to own a Neo Geo! I'm looking forward to messing about with this one again as it's been a very long time since I last fired it up! Come join is in the disussion thread!

I added a new poll - this one asks "Which KOF do you think has the best soundtrack?". I am pretty sure I know which 2 or 3 games will get the votes! Be sure to get your vote in!

Here are the results of our last poll:

If SNK were to make a sequel to one of these games, which would you like to see most?

- Garou: Mark of the Wolves - 36.54%
- Last Blade - 26.92%
- Art of Fighting - 11.54%
- Magician Lord - 11.54%
- Shock Troopers - 5.77%
- Other answer - 7.69%

It's pretty clear which games people would like to see get a sequel, although I suppose it was pretty obvious that The Last Blade and Mark of the Wolves would get the highest number of votes. The 7.69% of people that wanted something else gave the following answers:

- Real Bout 3
- SVC:2
- Turfmasters
- League bowling
- Last resort

Interesting stuff - definitely good to see people mention lesser known titles like Last Resort, and also good to see Turfmasters getting some love. NTM is a game I love to play now and again, and it's still as much fun and as instantly accessible as it always was. I doubt we will ever see a sequel though, unless perhaps SNK decide to make a golf game for the Nintendo DS or PSP... that would be a possibility I guess. If it could turn out as well as Neo Turf Masters on the NGPC did, then I am sold!

Samurai Shodown - Game of the Week

At long long last we are covering one of the Samurai Shodown/Spirits games as our Game of the Week!

It may have (in my humble opinion) been eclipsed by its amazing sequel, but Samurai Shodown is still a fantastic game... in fact many people prefer it to SSII for various reasons. Head into our discussion thread as this one should hopefully spark some good discussion!
