KOF XII Magazine Pictures & Info

The Professor at Madman's Cafe has posted up a few pictures from the latest Famitsu magazine, and a translation of some new game info! It seems that the tag system is gone and we are back to the traditional 3 vs 3 style, which will please some fans I'm sure. They also mention that the game is due to start beta testing in April, so in less than a month we could very well have lots of new info and screens/video. Here's a quick cut/paste from MMCafe:

--What kind of a matchup will KOFXII feature?

SNKP: Rather than the multishift system from KOFXI, this game (KOFXII) will adopt the traditional 3-on-3 elimination style battle system that's been used since KOF94. By returning to the traditional format and revising the game system that's gotten too complex, we're aiming for a game balance that's playable even for beginners. Instead of complicated combos that makes full use of the game's system, we want to put emphasis on "reading the opponent's mind".

--Is the guard system a part of that?

SNKP: We'll only say that it's a "very offensive system". We plan to make it a system where you can hit back an opponent's attack so that (the player's) offense and defence switches sides.

--What kind of an effect does the "Sousai" (clash) system have?

SNKP: The attack detection on both sides will disappear and you'll have to start over again. We've added a lot of (elements) to this system as well.

--Final words to the fans please:

SNKP: All of our staffs are working off their heart and blood to make this the best 2D fighting game ever. This game is the result of what we insisted on developing in 2D. Please look forward to seeing it, both in terms of graphics and gameplay.

You can find the magazine pictures here. As they are photos and not actual scans, the image quality isn't the best, and the screens included don't show an awful lot that we hasn't already seen, but the new info on the game system is very interesting. If we hear anything more or if we find some proper scans of the magazine I'll post an update. I can't wait for some more info in April though!!! Thanks to Cyberfanatix for the heads up!

UPDATE:

I just spotted a post by Trieu over at SNK-Capcom.com, which mentions these Famitsu pictures, but also mentions that they were told the following characters are also rumoured to be in the game:

  • Raiden (not Big Bear)

  • Ryo Sakazaki

  • Robert Garcia

  • Andy (looking like a thug)

  • Keith (from Matrimelee)

  • Remember these are all rumours right now (albeit from a good source), but if they are true??? Ryo and Robert I expected, but Raiden is a big surprise and it would be extremely interesting to see how his sprite would look! I've been demanding to see the return to the series of Andy Bogard for a while too, he's always been one of my favourite characters, so I really hope that part is correct. I wonder how they will fit it in story-wise, and does this mean we might see Hokutomaru in the game too? Finally... Keith from Matrimelee? That's another incredibly interesting choice, I can't quite see how he'd fit in, but I'm not averse to seeing him in KOF XII.

As I said, none of this is confirmed as of yet, but it's interesting food for thought for the time being, that's for sure!
