PAL PS2 Art of Fighting Anthology
Kurisu
Picked this up new a couple of weeks back for only 12.99 in a high street store. Have still only seen one other copy. Seems a great buy, all 3 AoF games that seem complete to me, including the Neo splash screen and jingle (and 60hz option). But, I am no expert on the AoF series, so was wondering what the "experts" thought? Judging by the price the later AES carts are going for, I couldn't believe 12.99!

I tried the AOF pack a while ago, and I thought compared to some of the other collections (Last Blade especially) it was pretty good. AOF1/2 are small enough to be ported over very easily to the PS2 so they are pretty much spot on if I remember right (these ports are emulated basically), but I think due to being quite a bit bigger with all the animation, AOF3's sound was a little more muffled than it should have been. It's been a long long time since I fired it up so I could be wrong, but that's the way I remember it. It's nothing too dramatic though, I do think that this one is a very good collection and well worth the money (12.99 is a steal imho). Oh and it does have the arranged music on the disc as well, so having that choice is great! Smile

A lot of people will argue that the games haven't aged well, but I don't care to be honest, I love the series and AOF1 was the first Neo Geo game I played so it certainly has a place in my affections! Smile

Just thought I'd post up an update. Was messing with the PS2 today, and I found AOF Anthology. Booted it up and what I said about the sound is pretty much right. AOF1/2 look perfect and the sound is more or less the same as on the Neo Geo, perhaps slighjtly more muffled but it's not noticeable. AOF3 has noticeably more muffled sound effects however, I guess due to them reducing the sample rate to save memory or something. It's not horrible though, and it plays and looks pretty damn good.

AOF 1 is OK, pretty fun until the last boss, then it becomes stupidly hard.

AOF 3 is great, gorgeous graphics, solid gameplay, great game.

AOF 2 is the worst though, it's impossibly hard (even on easy), it is punishing, not fun at all, i hate it. I don't mind hard games, i generally enjoy them but this was designed to steal coins from you in the arcades.

How clean is 3's arranged track? And how good are the arranged tracks for that matter? Just curious.
If you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there.

AOF Arranged -->
AOF3 Arranged -->

Have a look and see what you think Smile. I really like the arranged AOF music, but a part of me prefers the original music, I think because I'm so used to the MVS carts now.

i duno i know that aof 2 is hard but the gameplay is still pretty good for its age and i believe its far superiour to aof1

Art of Fighting is dated but still a classic and fun to play. The problem I do have with the game is that often you can become dizzy after only one hit. This can be very annoying especially when you are up against the bosses who take this opportunity of doing loads of damage to you.

Art of Fighting 2 is actually a very good game and a very big improvement over the first in the series. It certainly is very tough in single player and I've never managed to beat the game but I don't find the difficulty frustrating. Graphics are very nice with a lot of detail in the backgrounds and large sprites (animation could have been better though). The bonus rounds in AOF2 are a great feature especially when you are battling the street punks in a back alley.

Art of Fighting 3 is the best in the series but not by a huge margin over AOF2. The graphics are stunning and the animation is of course very smooth. Kasumi Todoh is a very nice addition to the series but some of the other new characters are not really the greatest designs Snk have come up with.

AOF 3 is great, but yeah i agree apart from Robert, Ryo and Kasumi the characters are pretty crap design wise... Mind you John Crawley is pretty cool...

i love john crawely he reminds me of G.I. Joe, i quite like karmen from aof3

I actually meant the guy in the suit from AOF3, Carmen Cole... I always call him John Crawley for some reason...

Indeed! I just counter it with my incredibly cheap tactic of jumping off the wall and kicking. It works surprisingly well! Smile

Im only 16 dont know what that money translates into, but in usa i get all the snk collections and new games they come out with for 15$ new each

12.99 would be around $26 in US money, with the current exchange rate. Might sound expensive but to be honest everything is way more expensive here in the UK. 12.99 is pretty much nothing as far as newl released games go over here (average price for a brand new title is 30-40).
