Its gone crazy
Hi guys new & old wh may remember me being a regular 09-11.
Well one of my MVS boards failed whilst doing my annual retro console checks but had great fun playing my other MVS & NGCD. So much fun that I have been playing nothing but NG games as I forgot just how much fun they were.

So I decide to look for new board on ebay & even pick up a few games. Yet I am totally shocked by how much the prices have risen since I stopped collecting about 5 years ago. The prices of MVS carts & cds have more than doubled or in some cases tripled.
For instance commen games like FF2 used to be about £15 for loose cart is now cheapest about £45 or in some cases £70+. We all know Metal Slug games are very desirable & have always been pricey but when I was collecting I got them all loose for between £30-50 each, I think my MS2 was about £20 I recall & the rare MS5 was £50 which despite being great I thought the £50 was pricey. Now people are asking 100s for any slug loose, e.g somebody is selling loose MS5 for £230 & you will need £80+ if you wanna own any MS title on MVS.
Dont get me started on NGCD games as they were mostly under £40 when I was collecting with common titles like KOF94 being about £7 or so.
Whilst its nice being back on board & I hope to be active on this site again I just wonder if anybody knows why the 100% increase had occured, I can only assume collecters like myself have most if the rare games & a good portion of previously common titles that the quantity of carts has simply decreased by a large margin.
Also a good % of the sellers are from Italy/Spain when in 09-11 when I was keenly collecting the sellers were mainly UK/US/Jap & France. I havent checked AES prices as I dont have one but recall they were crazy money back then so assume they have gone up . Umm another factor could be due to prices of AES games being so high that a lot of gamers have switched to MVS to save money as they can be made to look cool with shockboxes & inserts.
Anyway its cool to be around again & hope the likes of Merlin,Riko,Ninja,SGX, Priest are still around & look forward to reading threads by the new members.

I have missed this site

My two cents about prices are:

1. MVS cart prices have risen because CMVS systems are more of a thing nowadays. I blame the Analogue MVS that had lot of publicity because it was so expensive.

2. AES common cart prices are risen because of Youtube. More people want to buy AES system and well only games you can find for under 100$ are the likes of FF1-2,SS1-2, Magician lord,Nam 1975 etc. so even for those games people are bidding against each other and prices get even higher.

3. More expensive AES games prices have risen because Facebook groups where people want to show that they have some expensive games. This I find the most crazy thing happening. I mean if you have Kizuna,Ultimate 11 or maybe even US MS1 yes those are rare games but paying over 1000$(50% increase in couple years) for MS3. That is just insane.

Retro gaming has been really popular the last 5 years and thus sellers on Ebay have increased their prices to a ridiculous amount and shops have based their new prices on those found on Ebay. The prices on Ebay don't reflect the true value of games in my opinion, but unfortunately the rest of the shops base their prices on the highest found.
As long as people are willing to spend insane amounts on games, prices will stay high and my collection will still be worth a fortune (not that I care) with highlights being AES games Fu'un Super Tag Battle, Blazing Star and Twinkle Star Sprites and arcade PCBs Dodonpachi Daifukkatsu Black Label and Dodonpachi Saidaioujou.

Welcome back STE Clap

I bought a mint Metal Slug 4 AES on Ebay for £120 maybe 6 years ago It was the most unpopular game in the series so it had the lowest price. and a few years before that - Metal Slug 3 (AES) for £180. Now even those are ridiculous prices.

There are also some sellers selling high quality repros as genuine. Some sellers are starting to show circuit boards in their photos as a result but not everyone can open an AES cart so I wonder what effect this will have on the market in future

I'm still very jealous of your Blazing Star Cthulhu!
