Hidden Gems on the Nintendo DS?
I've amassed a collection of 100+ DS games and of the fifty or so I've played thus far, I'd say these are all real hidden gems.

Age of Empires: Mythologies
Marvel Trading Card Game
Phantasy Star Zero
Orcs and Elves
Little Red Riding Hood's Zombie BBQ
Lock's Quest

Played any of them? Disagree with any of my choices? Have some games of your own to suggest? Discuss!

Alright, I'll add some vids.

Thank you very much Boogie! Didn't know Little Red Riding Hood's Zombie BBQ till now.
Looks really, really great. Hopefully it plays the same. Great use of the second screen that way. I will definitely check it out this year. * writes on wanted list *

Age of Empires: Mythologies is a interesting one to mention. I have it for years but never made a start. But I completed Age of Empires: The Age of Kings and enjoyed it a lot. Unfortunately I can't comment your other picks, I only know them by name, sorry.

These are mine recommendations:

* Hotel Dusk
* Last Window
* The World Ends With You
* Ghost Trick
* Dragon Quest IV - V - VI
* Trauma Center
* Phoenix Wright (all chapters!)
* Elite Beat Agents

Huge collection you have. Does it also contain all Barbie & My Little Pony chapters? Pfft
Haha, I do have a few very bad games (Sudoku Mania... gah!), but the vast majority are at least decent.

Glad you saw something you might like. It's a little rare, so I'd suggest picking it up sooner rather than later.

I've played Hotel Dusk, Phoenix Wright (just the first one, but will definitely be playing the rest as well), and Elite Beat Agents. Last Window is on my wish list, and the rest I own but have yet to play with the exception of the Dragon Quest games. Why do you recommend them? I'm genuinely curious as I've never played a Dragon Quest game before. (Gasp! I know...)

Oh, and have you played Trace Memory/Another Code? It's also by Cing (Hotel Dusk, Last Window) and, though short, is quite good I'd say.

Thanks for the videos. Good for you to have some great games in the collection to look forward to. I'm convinced you won't be dissapointed. Ghost Trick (93%) is easily one of my (DS) favourites of all time.

Some (or maybe all, I don't know for sure) of the DQ DS releases are finally translated.
Giving all the DS chapters are handled by ArtePiazza, you get the same high quality.
So if you like IV, you are set to enjoy V and VI a lot. They play great on the system, without losing the retro vibe of their original release.

Yeah, Another Code was one of my first DS games which I bought. I'm a huge PC point 'n click adventure fan and couldn't wait to play DS adventures. Gave it a 75% review score in 2005, time flies by so fast! The game contains good puzzles but also some tiresome dialogue.

If you are into platform/action games, you should definitely check out the CastleVania games. Quality not always consistent, but a great addition for the libary.

Please share your collection!
Cool, I guess I'll start with DQ IV then.
And you do reviews? Where at? I'd love to read them.

I've played the first two Castlevanias but have yet to tackle Order of Ecclesia. It looks so good... Smile

As for my collection, gladly! I think this is the full list (minus boxes and/or manuals that lack the actual game itself).

Thank you for sharing your collection.
Lovely to see games like Touch Detective, Professor Layton and Bangai O.
So why the love for the system? Do you also own a 3DS?

Here is my list of played/completed DS games, which I also reviewed:
Nice collection yourself!
I'm still interested in reading those reviews (particularly the one on Moon, which I rather enjoyed). And it's good to see the love for Portrait of Ruin. I don't know why so many prefer Dawn of Sorrow over it.

As for why I like the DS, I like that it's got a huge library, is portable (since I travel a lot), and has many unique titles.
Alas, I do not own a 3DS, mainly because there's so much already on offer with the regular DS that I do not (yet) feel compelled to own one.
If you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there.
Funny you mention it, I don't any of them anymore.
Sold everything after completing it. DS prices were/are very friendly.
I bought most of them from until they stopped selling them.

The reviews aren't published anywhere, I wrote them for myself (like a diary).
When I was like thirteen years old, I started to write game reviews for all kind of platforms. The language is Dutch, so little chance you can read them Wink
The few Neo Geo reviews are translated and posted on the site. Future Neo reviews will come.

So why do you travel a lot? Is it because of work? The PS VITA is also a great handheld. Different then a DS offcourse, but it has a nice console feel (twin sticks). The screen is beautiful.
Ah, sorry to hear you sold everything. I'm hoarder, I guess. I still have all sorts of games that I haven't touched in years. And yeah, I can't read Dutch.:( I'll check out your translated neo reviews though.

As for why I travel, I'm an American who teaches English in South Korea (though I'm taking a break between jobs to spend some family time in the States.) It's a pain lugging around systems, so the DS is pretty much a perfect fit for me.

The PS Vita has always intrigued me. If I ever get another console, it may well be just that. I recall one particular game that looked absolutely beautiful. Maybe you know what it is. Everything in the game looks like it's made of papier mache (or maybe not. My memory sucks.) It was a platformer of some sort.

Nice thread. I am useless at suggesting any hidden gems because I've hardly played on any normal DS games as it is. Recently I was playing a lot of Warlock of Firetop Mountain. I think that might be an acquired taste though. Out of the games though I have I really like Scribblenauts (1). Since Boogie mentioned Red Riding Hood, which looks good btw Thumbs Up I always wanted that dual screen Contra game. BUt yes not much of a hidden gem!

@Sensi. I like that you review your games! Do you do a list like that for the Neo Geo? I'd like to see it if you do.

Oh cool! I just checked out that Fighting Fantasy game on youtube. It looks like a good match alongside Orcs and Elves.
Thanks for pointing that one out. Grin

@Boogie, thanks for popping out your personal info.
I'm sure you would like the Vita. The system has great games in each genre and is region free, very important if you are into import games. For the 'paper game', I think you mean Tearaway. Never played it but it's indeed mentioned regularly Vita's favourites.

@Riko, I'm indeed planning to write Neo reviews. The collection is big, but I didn't even played them all. And the ones which are played, haven't got enough playtime to derserve a review. So the plan is to follow the masterlist/order of release. So I will start with NAM-1975 (NGH-001) and post offcourse the review on the site.

That sounds like a good plan to review them in order. I liked the early days where SNK wasn't just making fighting game after fighting game. I'm a big fan of NAM, looking forward to reading your review. It's quite a hard game I think.
