Overclocking your AES
Thoughts? Experiences?
How?! Please explain, got some stories about it?
Never heard of, so didn't knew it was even possible!
Sensi It works very similar to to mega drive 50/60 MHz mod , simply you need to change a clock crystal on the board to a higher mhz one you then add a switch to switch between the two modes stock and overclock.

it's a simple mod that can help with some games with slowdowns , your metal slug type of games come to mind , you can get instability with this mod on certain titles. In that case you just switch back to stock setting.

Wonder boy If your the type of person who don't mind using a soldering iron and are not a purists who then don't mind drilling a hole in the case for a switch. Go for it especially if you own metal slug games , you could always just use mame then over clock that in the settings if you want to experience what the mod can feel like before doing it. The neo is in all honestly a really fast and efficient board already.

But I would do it if I owned a aes
Yes sensi, what vas said. It helps speed up slow down in MS2 (my favorite MS game). I don't know how to solder, but I know someone whom does.
Ok, thanks for the info.
Like you said, Metal Slug 2 suffers from slowdowns. The first time I played the MVS version, I thougt something was wrong with the cartridge.

So if you can overclock the AES, in some way you can say the console is limited by SNK.
I believe metal slug x has updated chips inside the cart so it plays a lot smoother than 2 . So what I can gather is the neo is limited by its cart hardware more than console hardware. The crystal is more of a brute force thing its only limited for the sake of reliability like ever consumer cpu but all in all the neo is maxed out anyway the mod just gets you into the tipping point. Can corrupt graphics on some games
I'm guessing if you overclock the hardware it doesn't run the games too fast either because the CPU is still locked to the screen refresh rate?

It does sound like a good way of playing Metal Slug 2. But slowdown in most games is too minimal to worry about and sometimes seems a bit like part of the game - e.g. on some Blazing Star + Viewpoint bosses if you keep firing to slow the action down you can avoid the mass of bullets easier.

I don't think I would bother personally. Also you're not playing exactly the same game as other Neo Geo owners - which would be a problem for High Score Competitions. If you can switch it on and off though, why not?

metal slug 2 without slowdown, it's not metal slug 2 Headbang
If you want a speed boost just use mame. It's more of a modders thing, basically just bragging rights or if you have two aes systems.
Seems a bit unnecessary to me. I'm a big fan of Metal Slug 2 and the slowdown has never really bothered me. It doesn't affect my enjoyment of the game. Maybe this makes me a 'purist' but I'm not so keen on the idea of overclocking any arcade games. I would rather play them 'normally'.
Nothind to add! Clap
I did a bit of research on this and found this patch for Metal Slug 2 to reduce the slowdown. Seems like SNK botched the coding a bit.

Someone on NeoGAF was also saying you still need an overclocked Neo Geo with the patch to actually get *no slowdown* though. An overclocked Neo Geo by itself ISN'T enough to get zero slowdown,

On a normal Neo Geo with the patch:

System 11 wrote (on : It would still be terrible in 2p I'm afraid. The train level is still pretty rough too, apparently the code which tracks the train movement is somehow really slow.
