FM Towns discussion
1983parrothead
Greetings everyone.

It's been a while since I last came here. Currently, I now have an FM TOWNS II HR model. But the problem with it is, it automatically turns itself off. Do I need a power converter or repair the PSU?

The only FM TOWNS game I have is Asuka 120% Burning Fest., the original 3-disk version. I have two official copies, but the BGM is incorrect in some parts.

Is this a different Asuka version from the original Sharpx68000 one?

Hi parrothead. Not sure about your first question. Maybe it would be worth asking at the assembler forums?

Which other FM Towns games are you planning to buy?

I remember trying out some FM Towns games on the UNZ emulator a while back and was quite impressed with some of them. If I owned the system this would be the game I would be most keen to get (a great port with a very nice arranged soundtrack):

The 3-disk FM TOWNS version started it all. The X68000 version was a revisioned port of it.

When I plug it in and turn it on, it turns off after a few minutes or seconds. Taking it to a repair shop looks tricky. I also think I need to find someone who can trade it for a working model and let them repair mine. Any ideas?

Perhaps none of course. But if I had enough money to afford them, I would buy these:

Genocide Square
Mad Stalker : Full Metal Force
Asuka 120% BURNING Fest. Excellent
RayXanbeR 1

Tatsujin Oh is overrated and muzukashi in gameplay.

From what I've read online it seems that a power converter isn't necessary when using Japanese systems in the US.

I think speaking to someone in your area who repairs electronic devices might be the best option. Even though they won't have worked on an FM Towns before there's a chance they might, hopefully, be able to figure out what the problem is. Maybe some capacitors need to be replaced.

Hope you can get the problem fixed.

I took it to a repair shop and they said it is best to find a working PSU by TDK CA02951-0620.

Any site suggestions?

Well if you can post a picture of the power board, It may be a few caps have mushroomed and gone bad, Turning on and off is also a symptom of tvs I repaired a few tv's this way that would power up and turn off within 30secs. Just by replacing a few caps.

Can't give any other advice really without acess to you system. But this is a easy and visual check.
