Amazing Collection

Just thought I'd show off my Spectrum collection Smile

Found these in a cupboard upstairs. According to the back of the box, Avalon is like a "3D adventure film". That's not quite true...

JSW even has the half-impossible copy protection card still in it.

Nice collection RiKo. Good to see you have the awesome Spy Hunter. I remember I used to often go to my friend's house after school and we would take it turns playing Spy Hunter. Very addictive! The helicopter used to cause me a few problems and the part where you go into the water was tricky.

Maybe I'll post a photo of some of my ZX Spectrum collection in the future.

My ZX Spectrum favourites:

Spy Hunter
Manic Miner (have only played the sequels briefly)
Atic Atac
The Curse of Sherwood
Journey's End
Ninja Master
Kobyashi Naru
Sinbad and The Golden Ship
The Hobbit

Thanks Merlin Thumbs Up I like that about Spy Hunter - exactly the same for me! my 2 best friends used have spy hunter, Jet Set Willy and Dynamite Dan, and I was always round their houses playing them. I didn't get a Spectrum myself until quite some time later. I had to buy it myself, since my parents bought a BBC micro.

I've never played Atic Atac but that's definitely one I will try at some point. The Speccy never had the best graphics or sound but I think the best thing about it was just the huge and diverse range of games available. There was pretty much a game for anything you could think of!

I really, genuinely, never liked ANY of this era of home computers.

I had a C64 (the white, updated version) as a child. I was FORTUNATE enough to have had my mum buy me a bunch of cartridge titles along with it (Robocop 2 & 3, SOTBeast, SCI, Navy SEALS, Batman, Pang, Toki, Space Gun & T2 ) - which happened to be pretty much ALL of them!

But, when it came to the pain involved with cassette tape titles, I just couldn't be arsed with them. I played plenty of them, and I had plenty of (can't remember if this is the right name) C64 Power 'PowerPack' PD tapes, but on the whole, vs having one friend with an A500(!) and one friend with a NES(!), I felt very underwhelmed by my only gaming option.

I ended up swapping it for a MasterSystem II with Sonic built-in eventually (plus more games), so it wasn't ALL doom 'n' gloom Grin

Ninja, you had a C64 that's why Grin it's like a halfway-house between a spectrum and a console. There were more eccentric and deep games on the Spectrum and you had slicker and more arcadey ones on console.

There were some cartridge games on the Spectrum too but I didn't even realise until a few years ago. At the time the tape loading thing didn't bother me and almost added to the anticipation - sometimes it would fail and you'd have to adjust the volume and tone controls and start all over again. Also if you had waited 3 or 4 minutes for a game to load you were definitely going to make the most of it. Nowdays there is too much temptation to just play another game when the one you are playing gets hard or frustrating. Having said that some PS2 games managed to bring back Spectrum-esque loading times!

Lost treasure! Found some more Spectrum games while moving boxes over to my new house. Dizzy, BMX simulator and 3D Starfighter were the very first 3 games I bought for the system.

They were all budget £1.99 games. They would probably cost about £6 today adjusting for inflation which seems quite a lot.
