How have you liked Windjammers so far, particularly the solo player experience? It's one of those games that I've always had a slight interest in but never got around to.
If you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there.

Sensi
I only played the game for a short time to test it. Looks like great fun and a great addition after Flip Shot and Bang Bead. I'm a sucker for these kind of games.
Windjammers is a bit a dark MVS horse. Not mentioned/known much, but always popping up as one of the better MVS titles. So that was the reason I bought it, also because the price of it rose a lot the last couple of years.

Yeah, I can see the comparison to Bang Bead. It looks kind of like a mix of pong and nba jam (what with all those crazy powerups). Guess I'll have to give it a shot!

I got myself a loose Neo Geo CD with Pulstar this week.

There are some games I'd like to have but simply can't afford in AES-version and since I'm not into MVS, CD looks like a nice alternative.

I know the loading trashes the experience in some games, but that's mainly the fighters I believe, and I'm not looking for them to my NGCD.

Sensi
Nice buy Henke!
Is the CD version identical to the arcade version?
Still looking for a MVS version......

Thanks Sensi!

No, the CD-version is not identical. it has "intros" to the levels that's not present in AES/MVS. However once you've seen them they're pretty annoying as they require loading-time.
Thankfully you can turn them off in the options menu.
Unfortunately there are some slowdowns, I don't know if its present in AES/MVS.

Despite the slowdowns and the loading, it's a fantastic game!

I'm satisfied with the console but it's bigger than i thought. Bigger than the Saturn but weighs a lot less which makes you wonder, how much space is in there?

It's also nice to have a pad, even though I prefer the stick.

Excellent decision getting a Neo CD; it's a great compliment to either cart based system.

Out of the 16 shmups (I'm including Ninja Commando) there's only five which aren't available on CD: Blazing Star, Captain Tomaday, Zed Blade, Strikers 1945 and Prehistoric Isle 2. Andro Dunos is available from NCI.

If you're not overly bothered about spine cards then you can pick up a huge chunk of the library really cheap.

I didn't know the CD version had intros! but yes probably annoying after a while.

I re-bought NAM 1975 so I have the marker-pen free version now. Was playing it tonight, still an awesome game. i really like the dramatic voice over and audio to this game especially.

I just received 3 more NEO•CD consoles, two top loaders and a front loader. All were dead, but i fixed all 3 in a couple hours.

The CD version of Pulstar plays identical to the cart version, there is no difference at all. The slowdown is about the same, the music is redone for CD.

There are very few CD games that are different to play compared to carts, Metal Slug has the ability to change button layouts, and loads of games have a different sound track, none of the link play games have link play, but not much else ever changes.

The CD consoles have quite a bit inside, its a very well made console too, both the original top loader and front loader.

You can finally rest your head Riko. Must be very annoying to see all those black marks.
Luckily mine haven't got any of those. Didn't know they excisted and it's a bit shocking to see! You were right to buy a marker free version.

@ Neo-Geo Man, cool. You repair the CD consoles and sell them again for a profit?
Clever work you can pull it off.

I could sell them off for a profit, but i will probably just keep them to play. I dont really need 5 CD units, but one is boxed and perfect, one is a front loader boxed and never used, the other 3 were fair condition and not working, but theyre easy to fix.

Thanks Sensi, I didn't care when I originally bought it but the last few years it has been bugging me! Feels good to have a 'clean' version. Probably about half the Nam's on Ebay have those black marks. Angry

Very rare to see a Japan version these days.

In the past months, I really got back into SNK and the Neo (I blame the KOF XIV hype), and I bought a top-loading Neo Geo CD which finally arrived today. So far the games I have are:

Alpha Mission 2
Last Resort
Baseball Stars 2
KOF 97 (came with the system)

and I have Aero Fighters 2 and King of the Monsters 2 coming in the mail. Unfortunately the down-left diagonal on the controller is a bit busted, but it's still really awesome to own genuine SNK hardware after all these years. I remember a chat meet a few years back where Merlin recommended me to get a nGCD and I dismissed it but, here I am.

The CD console is great i reckon!

Congrats Glowsquid. That was a good move buying a NGCD. A great system to own. Load times are quite short for many games.

Despite what I said to you in chat that time I ended up selling my NGCD collection.

Hope to see you drop by more often.

NEO-GEO man
Some are quite long too, but its worth the play on some to hear the different music.

Samurai Shodown is one that has an awesome soundtrack.

Metal Slug 1 and 2 have the option to change controller settings, very important, because you can set to use D button to send off the tank. Cant do that on the cart versions. I tried putting the P files off the CD versions in a cart to see if it would work, but it does not unfortunately.
