Is Anyone Going to Buy a Wii U?
-SD-
So it's coming out here on November 30th, but no prices have been announced for UK or Europe. And there's no mention of TVii in our region either:(

They did however announce a US release date of November 18th, with prices of $300/350 depending on which package you go for.

Apparently there won't be a RRP in the UK, retailers will set their own prices. But going by the Japanese and American prices, I reckon my estimate of £279.99 is about accurate for the Premium pack, taking VAT and stuff into account.

I think its expensive if you take into account any extras you might have to buy. I'm still not excited by it at the moment but i think this could be a console where it takes developers a while to figure out what to do with it exactly, so i'm definitely adopting a wait and see policy. I remember i couldnt care less about the 3DS until about a year after it came out and now i really like it Thumbs Up basically it started getting some proper quality games for it then and also at that point, some of the launch titles you could pick up for £10 brand new.

I won't be buying a WiiU. Just sold my 360 and PS3 recently since I've decided to reduce my gaming collection. I'll just stick to the PC for current gen gaming.

However I do hope the WiiU will be successful. I'll always have a soft spot for Nintendo
with all the fond memories I have of playing NES and SNES games. It's sad that Sega had to
withdraw from the home console market and it's nice that at least one of the old console
developers is still enjoying some success in this area.

Some stores are updating their listings with prices. So far it looks like the Basic package with the white conole is £259.99, the black Premium set is £309.99 and the ZombiU package, which also includes a black Pro Controllerand the game is £349.99!!!

Amazon already has the Basic pack for £249.99, so over the next 11 weeks the prices will drop by at least 20 or 30 quid hopefully.

I really got my fingers burnt with he original Wii when I bought one last year hence I sold it 4 months later. The only way I will buy one is if Shenmue 3 is an exclusive.

Like Merlin im happy with my pc until the new Xbox arrives and even then I still expect to game on my pc until the next gen games catches up.

I have no faith or time for Nintendo as a software/hardware manufacturer anymore.

Apparently Shemue 3 will be an exclusive on Dreamcast 2. I'll be getting that on launch Wink

I still enjoy playing my Wii but most of the time it's for the games that use a real controller not the Nun-chuck and Wiimote combo.

I came across this earlier whilst browsing.....

It seems Nintendo's advertising company may be a little confused over the dates... unless there really are plans afoot to launch a week early?

This one shocked me because Epic assured it was a shoo-in: not getting Unreal Engine 4.

(Didn't mean to resurrect, but this seemed like the appropriate place(?))

I have one and I must say I'm finally started to get a lot of enjoyment out of it. There was a long period of time without any top tier releases. I have been enjoying SM 3d World immensely... one really has to try it rather than just judge based on the pictures/videos online.

Also playing the Wind Waker HD - looks gorgeous. One of the big selling points of this to me is the Wii U gamepad. I am often playing the retail games or virtual console games on just the pad when someone's watching TV, and they look great.

BTW the Wii virtual console games (a ton of Neo geo) can be transferred over to the Wii U. Unfortunately this removes the original copy on the Wii console though.

ALSO - NES remix is super fun. They made mini challenges out of various Nintendo games. I was not sold on this idea immediately but I had a lot of fun playing it with family over the holiday week.

Not sure why they released FF2rather than special though?

So yeah... I'm loving my Wii U. Super Mario 3D World, Zelda: Wind Waker HD, Sonic Lost Worlds, Rayman Legends... not to mention eShop games like the aforementioned NES Remix and Mutant Mudds Deluxe. I'm sure at the end of this generation the Wii U probably won't end up being my favorite console of the three, but I've already enjoyed it so much that I'll never regret picking one up.

Thanks for the enlightenment!

Quick question, do the wii virtualgameswork on thewii u, or will these have to be re-released specifically for the wii u? When I look at the virtual console it seems the latter, but not having a wii (or wii u) it would be interesting to know as am mulling next console purchase.

The Wii U actually have a separate menu for Wii games. Basically, you pick Wii from the main menu and it loads up the menu from the original Wii, complete with WiiWare and Virtual Console. I bought Castlevania Adventure ReBirth on there already. Good stuff. So in short, yes all of the Wii software including Virtual Console and WiiWare games are fully playable on Wii U. There's even a way to transfer downloaded games from an old Wii to your Wii U, though this makes them unplayable on the original Wii.

It does not include backwards compatibility for the Gamecube though, so take that into account before selling off your old system.

Yeah hang on to the Wii for playing GC games through the easily obtainable Component video output cable, and also save the GC for the GBA player attachment!
