The Warlocks of the Fates
-SD-
Assuming that it's not a nasty April Fools, NCI have apparently got their hands on a WotF proto. Hopefully it's in a much more complete state than TotC, but we'll have to see how this turns out I suppose.

Warlocks of the Fates is one of the protoypes that I've most wanted to play. The backgrounds in the game look impressive and I like the idea of this clash between witches and warlocks in a fantasy realm. After the Last Odyssey episode I'm kind of expecting this may well be a hoax though.

The original post regarding the discovery of the game was actually on the 31st March. Now I don't know if the Japanese do the whole April Fools thing, but from a business point of view this isn't the sort of thing to joke about. You've seen the reaction that TonK received for the Last Odyssey wind-up, I really don't think any serious business would tarnish its reputation in that manner.

I really hope this may be true, but as long as I don't see any footage or new images I remain skeptical. Furthermore we must remind ourselves that the state of Warlock of the Fates is still a mystery, we don't know if it's halfway playable or if it's just an incomplete mess of data.

And does anyone know anything about Astec21, the developer of Warlock of the Fates? I realized they developed some obscure games for PSX:

Judging from the NeoGeoFreak (the magazine) screenshots, Warlock of the Fates somehow reminds me of Voltage Fighter Gowcaizer - I hope it's better in it's complete state.

AMEN TO THAT!...
Last time I played VFG I nearly threw up all over my own balls!

Not nice. Not... nice.

Here's hoping WOTF (aka WOTTHEFATFUCK?) doesn't have the same, unerring effect.

I love my shiny clean balls.

Thanks Smile

According to a Japan based member at NG.com, a cheaply made AES cart of Warlock of the Fates has been seen in a video game shop in Tokyo called Mandarake Galaxy. Furthermore another member claims that the game will remain for a while in that shop before it gets a "proper" release.

In the mean time NCI wrote the following stuff on their Twitter page:

Shinryu Senki (Warlock of the Fates) rented to Mandarake Nakano for few months , if you visit Tokyo have a look in the showcase Wink original prototype is there

Shinryu Senki/Warlocks of the Fate SNK/Astec 21 Original Prototype + Original Artworks Pictures soon!

The game seems to be real after all. Smile

EDIT:
A first pic has been uploaded by a NG.com member. The quality leaves a bit to be desired, but after all it seems to be forbidden to take any photos in that shop.

The b&w insert seems to be made of original (unfinished) artwork, since NCI mentioned that original artwork indeed does exist.

Jojo23, a member at neo-geo.com, just posted some links to videos of Warlocks of the Fates. The videos were uploaded in 2013 but I didn't know about them until today. Very interesting to finally see some footage of the game!

The backgrounds and sprites look quite good and it's nice that the game has AOF/SS style zooming in and out. Gameplay doesn't look amazing but I'd still like to give this a try on Mame.

I want to experience this game. Music Does it use four buttons?

I'm also curious how much the buyer paid for it?

Yes Warlocks of the Fates is a four button game (I could be wrong but I think maybe A=LP,B=HP,C=LK,D=HK).

Their tweets made it sound as if NCI had the game but that was over two years ago and they've said nothing since then. I'm starting to wonder if they really do own the cart or even have the rom. I guess it's possible maybe they can't release it at the moment because of copyright reasons.

It's surprising that nobody has broken that glass and taken that game. Of course it would probably be an empty cart shell anyways.

Someone at neo-geo.com asked the staff in the shop and they said they had tested the game and it worked. Perhaps you meant that they have the actual proto hidden away and not on display?

Thanks for letting me know Ninja. Those video links worked ok on my browser but strangely don't seem to work on some other browsers. I've changed the links now.

Finally I can watch them, game looks quite complete . But still looks ropey. Someone will pay way to much for this I fear p

@2-D Crime is very low in Japan. If it were the UK, possibly. If it were in the U.S., definitely LOL (Sad, but true).

Kinda funny how it is cased in the glass, without any apparent fear of being taken though. Do general gamers in JP not care about N-G anymore?

Ninja if you don't already have one you could always create a Nico Nico account and watch them there:

Another method is copying and pasting the URLs here: (takes a while to load)
