Peter Molyneux leaves Lionhead/Microsoft

The guy is probably sick of remaking Fable Grin

http://kotaku.com...nect-fable

I've always been a big fan of Molyneux, was a big fan especially of Populous on the Amiga, and he always is very ambitious and enthusiastic with his games. Once i wrote him a letter and he sent me a reply + a free copy of Fable for Xbox, pretty cool, so yes he has bought my loyalty too Wink

He is a character alright, he can talk the talk and sometimes walks the walk. Cool that he replied to you Riko thats kudos for you.

I loved Fable & Fable 2 ( but 3 was dogturd) the original on Xbox was hyped to the point that it was gonna be this free roaming do anything type game ( a bit like what was expected of Shenmue). Yet he delivered a clever action rpg that was really good but not the second coming like he talked up. Fable 2 was beautiful as well a really great game but still just a very clever action rpg ( which is fine by me). I honestly do not think we will see a game in the next 20 years that will fulfill the vision of Molyneux or Yu Suzuki despite Shenmue & Fable being possibly the deepest games so far. Fact is making a game like real life is financially impossible.

Not sure what he plans to do next but good luck to him, we like guys like him in the industry.

Thanks Ste, I think you are right - the Fable games are very similar to Shenmue in their scope and also they tend to attract the same criticisms - ie about what you can't do - rather than what you can. and what you can do - is pretty amazing. i still havent got round to playing Fable 2 unfortunately, i tend to play quick fix games at the moment.

I think he gets very excited about games and has lots of plans but of course reality means its not possible to implement all of them. He does get into trouble a lot over this though, he keeps saying he will stop doing this haha.

Actually i was reading the other day that in Shenmue you were going to be able to ride a bike - as shown in one of the original videos, but it was taken out of the game. Not sure why now although it did say- it was in a really cool 'making of Shenmue' magazine article, and they talked to the games producer. Must scan it sometime.

Yes Riko I have seen that video footage of Ryo riding a bike and I assume it was taken out due to it being to clumsy and the fact that you would constantly barge into people. Makes you wonder what else was shelved in that megagame. Shenmue & 2 maybe did not deliver the promise of a do anything game ( I honestly do not think it is possible ) it more than made up for it for it in other areas such as story , emotion, music, and of coarse a close glimse of life in a small Japanese town, and later in Hong Kong ect.

yes i totally agree with you. It did so much other games don't even attempt - even all the different birdsong was amazing! Maybe one bad thing though - didn't it pioneer the concept of the QTE? personally i think these worked great in Shenumue, but in some games they can really suck - they end up just being segments where you dont actually get to play the game. Developers should not use them or use them better.

i actually just logged onto Twitter for the first time in a million years, and i saw Peter Molyneux had posted this
