Welcome to Game of the Week!

In 1998 SNK released a sequel to one of their biggest hits and the result was a game that often finds itself on the top of "Best NeoGeo Game Ever" lists.

The Last Blade 2

i43.photobucket.com/albums/e388/reelmojo/NG4LGOTW/Lastblade2.jpg

Genre: Fighting
Players: 2
Size: 554 Megs
Released on: MVS, AES, NGCD, Dreamcast, and Playstation 2

Brief Description:

The Last Blade 2 takes everything that was great about the original and fine tunes it to create one of the best games on the NeoGeo. Three new characters were added, as well as a new sword gauge mode.

Great game, I loved the vast activity in the backgrounds and the animated stage intros............however I do prefer the original just for the fact each fighter had their own backdrop plus there were two bosses...........but both games are defo up there at the top of the pile.

I agree with you on that one, although the gameplay in Last Blade 2 was improved, it didn't left such a huge impact on me unlike it's godlike predecessor. LB2 may offer some bombastic background stages (like the Fire at Wadamoya stage) but in general I prefer the sceneries, music and even the plot from LB1.

Doesn't mean that LB2 is a crap game though, in fact it's one of SNK's finest (but just not as fine as Last Blade 1).

anybody selling this game: looks brilliant

I've never been able to decide which of the two I prefer. But as far as I'm concerned, they're the finest fighting games ever made and the reason I own a Neo Geo.

Yeah I agree its really hard to choose a favorite but I tend to play the 1st game more. LB2 is easily one of the best games on the NG, like its prequel everything about the game is pure class inc my all time fave game background ( you know the fire).

Any NG owner should own it and I can see why people prefer this over the original as its a timeless game that really show off the power of the NG. Still I just slightly prefer the 1st game and would always suggest getting that one to start or choosing the 1st if you only intend to get 1 but this is just my opinion.

I ACQUIRED THESE TWO...
bad boys (1 & 2) off Merlin last year, and spent a bit more 'quality' time with them.

Whilst I did enjoy them, I still can't 100% connect with them. I've tried, but oddly, I think their over refined nature works against them slightly for me. I tend to prefer the more brash and vibrant Neo fighters like the Real Bouts and Samurai Shodowns.

The Last Blades are nothing short of remarkable, and I do enjoy them, but they don't do it for me, like say SS3 or SS4.

(p.s. I too preferred LB1 > LB2 for some strange reason. Will have to try them again soon enough, back to back, of course Wink

I love this game! I could connect more to this saga, than Samurai Shodown, dunno why (and Im not a superfan that reads the arguments and everything: I just want to kick some *ss!!! xd ) I like the "attitude" of Amano, and liked to use Hibiki and Yuki as well... heck, I have more favourite fighters than with Samurai Shodown! (I played those... but I dont even remember the name of those fighters, lol)

PS: Also, the lil'sister for the neo geo pocket is a brilliant conversion! Grin
