The PGM System & Games
neros
Hi people!

Lately I have been looking at games for the PGM (PolyGameMaster) system. I must say it attracts me a bit. For example games like Knights Of Valor 2 : Nine Dragons, Martial Masters, Spectral Vs. Generation, The Gladiator / The Road Of Sword, Dodonpachi 2 : Bee Storm, The Killing Blade and maybe Demon Front.

But what do you actually need for playing these games do you need a supergun or is it enough to have the PGM system like this: http://www.tops-g...mg/pgm.jpg ?

Is the games any good or just rip-off type of games do they have deep and engaging gameplay like the most Neo Geo games?

Hi Neros.

Yes a PGM motherboard is well worth getting. Thumbs Up I own all the games you listed apart from BeeStorm and they are all excellent. You definitely would enjoy Demon Front if you're a Metal Slug fan. The fighters and beat 'em ups in particular do have deep and engaging gameplay. The genre IGS are particularly good at is side scrolling beat 'em ups. In the Knights of the Valour games there are multiple different routes, loads of secrets to discover and there's a lot of potential for developing your skill.

If you don't have an arcade cabinet you need to either use a super gun or buy a consolized PGM. If you do buy a PGM you should remove the battery if it hasn't already been done. The batteries have been known to leak and cause damage to the motherboard. Neotropolis sell consolized PGMs on ebay but they tend to be quite expensive. Consolized PGMs still have the Jamma connector intact so can also be used in a cab.

This is a good place to buy PGM games:

Ok great! I'm a big fan of Beat-em-ups so I think this machine will do the trick for me. I don't own a arcade cabinet so I'll have to buy a Consolized PGM, but damn they are expensive !!

Great place to find games. They even have Martial Masters Grin

I have a PGM Neros although rather embarrassingly I have not got round to buying any games yet ( project for next year is to get Martial Masters & a Knights Of Valour title). I have played it thanks to merlin kindly loaning me Demon Front and it worked fine with just a normal supergun so thats probably the way to go if you want to save money. The Necro ones from the USA do look very nice but as you agree they are very expensive.

Yes that's right it's a hack not an official release. There are quite a few PGM hacks and you can play them on MAME Plus Multi J.E.T. Here are a few more:

Yeah a supergun is maybe the best way to go. Damn it! Why is everything you want so expensive Angry Haha! I must say The Gladiator looks out of this world with it's combo system I have never seen anything like it! Martial Masters is a beautiful game to look at.

I must own one of these PGM systems in the future! I really don't have room for a supergun and all the wires flying around. I want it simple..

I finally decided to buy and make a consolized PGM igs system. I'm so hooked on the system now Honfu

I wonder if there is any more games for the system than they are showing on the arcadeotaku site:
http://wiki.arcad...ame_Master

Are there any hidden ones that we normally don't see on youtube and other gaming sites or is this it?

I remember the first time I played Martial Masters and I was instantly hooked on it. I rather enjoyed the way the game played and looked. That actually may be the only game that I've played by PGM... but I'm not sure.

Good move Neros. Thumbs Up You definitely won't regret getting a PGM. A dream system to own for side scrolling beat 'em up fans especially. So do you mean you already have a consolized PGM or are planning to get/make one soon? I'll be interested to hear what you think of the games.

That list doesn't include this 3-in-1 cart:

http://www.excell...tid=643811

Also the Arcade Otaku wiki lists KOV Super Heroes Plus as an alternate title for Super Heroes but it's actually an enhanced later version of the game.

Don't know if this is actually true but I read someone saying there might possibly be two
versions of Puzzli 2.

I'm trying to go for a complete PGM cart collection and just bought 7 more carts in the last
few weeks. Unless there's some other game(s) I'm not aware of the only 2 carts I still need
are The Killing Blade Plus and KOV Super Heroes Plus.

In addition to that SmallCab site I mentioned earlier it's also well worth checking out Legend HK and Excellentcom. You can sometimes get some great deals there on PGM games.

Any of you guys have the PGM2 hardware? It seems like there's only five games available: Knights of Valor 2 - New Legend, KoV3, Oriental Legend 2, DoDonPachi DOJ Tamashi and King of Fighters '98 Ultimate Match Hero. It looks like the last software release was Knights 3 in 2011, so I'm not sure if its even still supported?

I've seen the system in both red and dark blue, I'm not sure if this a regional difference or something else?

Yeah I'm so deadly hooked on that system now! I got a friend who will built a consolized PGM for me with RGB output. Grin

I have a little question though, how does it work with 4 players? Can you make 4 controller ports direct on the system or how does it work I know very little about building stuff like this sorry..

Yeah beat em ups are just up my alley and I'm a fighting freak too. Martial Masters looks like a fantastic game. SF3 killer Shock

The Killing Blade, Spectral Vs Generation also looks interesting I must say.

The Gladiater looks like the best beat em up EVER!!

Dodonpachi II: Bee Storm what can I say I just want a igs Cave game on cartridge...AWESOME!

Demon Front !

I'll let you people know when I have the PGM system ready made maybe post some pics of it too

Thanks for the links Merlin Thumbs Up

The PGM igs is a very hidden system not much information about the games and reviews are there to be found on the web...Funny I have a feeling the time is now to get one before it's too late..Ssssssh!

The 3rd and 4th player controls go to the connector on the right of the system, which I believe is the same as a floppy disc drive. I'm sure I still have a copy of the pinout somewhere, I'll have a look for you.

I don't own any PGM2 games SD but I'm tempted to buy some in the future. Both OL2 and KOV3 look amazing. The colour isn't related to region. The two games not developed by IGS are blue for some reason. I'm expecting we might still see some more PGM2 releases. Just wish they would make a sequel to Demon Front. I think a lot of people would be very excited about that.

Good to see you're so enthusiastic about PGM Neros. That's lucky you have a friend who can
build a consolized one for you. You should post some pics when you do get it. Apart from linking two cabs with the PGM link cable I'm not sure how you would do 4 player games. I think people have added four controller ports to consolized CPS-2 motherboards though.

Martial Masters is an excellent fighter I agree. The background stages and well animated
sprites look amazing.

People rarely mention the Photo Y2K games but they're actually very addictive with two
players. The kind of games you put on to have a quick play and 40 rounds later you're still
playing!

My favourite PGM fighter is The Killing Blade. The game has interesting characters, a great
atmosphere and fast paced exciting gameplay. The game borrows some ideas from Samurai Shodown 4 like the A/B dodge, CD combos, Rage Explosion and Issen. The backgrounds also change, a bit like in SS3/4. There are some hidden special moves too which you can only do after another move e.g. Zhuge's qcf+B/D special only works immediately after a crouching A. I wrote a short FAQ. I had a few online sessions recently playing on ArcLive. Here are some very good match videos I found on Youku:

A sequel to Demon Front would be awesome. I always wondered why there wasn't one for the original hardware, and I sort of expected one for the new system.

The official 4p cable is simply a FDD connector -> male Jamma. It mirrors the video and audio output onto the second cab and connects the 3rd and 4th player controls. You just need to wire joystick ports to the correct points for multiplayer. I'll dig out the pinout asap.

If fact, here you go: http://junkerhq.n...ame_Master

Video and audio are in the first 12 pins somewhere, but if all you want is the extra player controls, this should be all you need.

Thanks man I'll give this link to my friend I don't understand much of it ;-) But I'm sure he will.

Happy to see others also like the system and games on it.

I'll check out Y2K games immediately :-)

I'm very hooked on The Killing Blade I think I'll love it!! Really like fighting games like this one with obscurity character design and gameplay! Buy the way I'm a hugh Samurai Spirits IV fan too Cool

I just saw the links from Youku. The Killing Blade looks absolutely amazing Haha!! Shock

Does anyone have some CAVE games for PGM 2? I didn't know CAVE had games on that system they look very rare and expensive..

There's only one Cave game on the PGM2. And only one game on cart for the original PGM: DoDnPachi Bee Storm.

All the rest of the Cave games use PGM based hardware, but they're all individual Jamma PCBs. System16.com really should split the PGM hardware list into Carts and Dedicated PCBs to avoid all this confusion, you'd be amazed how often this pops up.

As for emulation, is it possible to play the Knight of Valour games online, like some of you guys do with the D&D CPS2 games?

That would be great being able to play 4 player beat 'em ups with a consolized PGM. I've not come across one with four joystick ports before.

I'm glad to hear that you like The Killing Blade Neros. Thumbs Up Quite an underrated game that more people should try.

If anyone here is interested in getting a PGM2, Legend HK have some very good deals in their stock clearance section e.g. a motherboard + Oriental Legend 2 for only $148.

You seem quite interested in PGM SD are you thinking of buying some PGM/PGM2 games yourself in the future?

Yes you can play the Knights of Valor games online using Kaillera (Mame32++/Final Burn Alpha/DDEmeMame) or SupARC/ArcLive. There is also Mamehub but I've not tried playing KOV there yet.
