This brings me back. I played the hell out of the Saturn version of Daytona, and I played it in the arcades too so I know that version was far from perfect. Judging from that video this version has no draw distance problems, a silky smooth frame rate, and a new HD coat of paint. Plus eight person multiplayer and the complete original soundtrack! It looks like this will be the definitive home version of Daytona USA, and it's only $10! I'm hoping we get all eight tracks included in the Dreamcast version, but I could see them releasing the tracks from CCE and the DC version as DLC. It's coming out on October 25th so we'll know by then.
I think i would prefer an updated Daytona, like they did with Afterburner + Outrun, but this is still very cool. My local arcade actually still has Daytona, and i do put the odd 50p in every now and again.
This game is sooo mine! My only wish really is that it has decent handling on a pad, as I don't have a 360 steering wheel right now. I loved the DC version, but I had to play it on a wheel as I thought on a pad it was nigh on unplayable, it was so incredibly twitchy!!!
It's only $10 in the US. I don't know how Sony handles pricing overseas but I know that 800MSP is the same worldwide for Microsoft, so I assume it couldn't be much more than that.
I think it's cool that while the rest of the world is playing Forza 4 and Gran Turismo 5 we'll all be playing Daytona USA and loving every minute of it! Also, I'm sure this game will get low reviews because it doesn't look like they're adding anything to it. It's just an HD version of the same game that came out 15 years ago. This is another example of low review scores not mattering because this is exactly the game that fans want!
Although, like you said Riko, a new Daytona in the vein of Outrun HD and Sega Rally Arcade would be awesome too.
