Thanks Bullet GrinThumbs Up i really like the DOA series so i am a little excited by this. It's hard to tell from just one stage but looks promising so far Smile will be interesting to see how it shapes up without Itagaki on board but i heard the 3DS one was meant to be good. They are a bit cheeky with this video because its in replay mode, so you get all the dramtic camera angles. Gameplay is always side-on.

Wow, the initial trailer for a new DOA and there's not a single humungous breast bouncing all over the place? I'm surprised!

Seriously though, I'm definitely excited about this. More so than I am about Soul Calibur V. Even back in the days of DOA2 vs. SC on the Dreamcast I always preferred DOA. I'm sure I'll get and enjoy both of them though.

great news love the series from saturn humble beginings long overdue 5yrs sheesh ho time flies Wait

ninja gaiden 3 in london gotta be fun tooNinja

Loved the Saturn and DC versions but haven't bothered 3 or 4 ( shame on me), guess this is a good excuse to get back in so a good chance I will pick this up. Always found the Soul Caliber games a bit shallow so wont be buying the new one.

I am actually interested to see how the women look beacuse i don't think they translated as well to this generation of hardware as they did on the last. In the pre-rendered ending sequences in DOA4 (which i think was the best DOA so far) the women looked much better designed - and although similar in style - had a better art-style than in the game. I think its time to get rid of the child-mannequin look now.

THIS LOOKS GOOD...
I'm quite liking the pace of the combat they seem to have opted for. Something a little more Tekken in tempo vs the faster vibe of VF.

I was originally a DOA man at heart, and always championed DOA1 > TKN2 & VF2 upon it's release. Perhaps wrongly even? But I truly adored the first game in the series when it hit home. A VERY accomplished 3D fighter for it's time and I feel it took something really quite special to challenge the likes of TKN & VF at the time.

Along came DOA2 on the DC and I was once again, blown away. I invested hastily in a DC upon the strength of seeing and playing DOA2 - nothing before it. Not even MVC1, PStone or the mighty SCalibur! The PS1 (I think?) still only had TKN3 at this point, so DOA2 really stood out at the time - from memory. This would be the first time I would 'leave' Jann Lee alone for a while whilst I learned Ein as my new main. It was worth it and Ein truly fitted my fighting style more appropriately (direct, strong and powerful - Japanese Karate & ZERO Kung Fu Pfft )

Speed along to DOA3, and Itagaki and co. had done it again as far as I was concerned. DOA3 was excellent and really benefitted from the Xbox's power. All 3 games so far had stood out as 'true' sequels to one another imo. Although I've never been a fan of M$ or the Xbox, I can't deny that the ethic of pushing your series further with each iteration is admirable and respectable. DOA3 also introduced the 'fully blossomed' Ein as Hayate. This would be the second time I would 'leave' Jann Lee alone for a while whilst I learned Hayate as my new, NEW main Grin

I'm a big fan of Hayabusa in DOA, but Hayate has always been the main man for me fighting style wise. A perfect blend of his old Karate style mixed with new tricks. In short, he is without doubt, fucking awesome and my fave character in the DOA universe. I digress...

DOA4 came along at a time when I OWNED a 360. I can't deny, that when compared to it's previous iterations, it left me feeling unexcited and completely flat. The new characters were 'nothing' imo and, at that point, I felt like the GFX and stage design hadn't coma along at all. If anything, I still preferred 3, as I respected what had been achieved on what was now, considerably less powerful hardware. After a short while, I simply skipped on DOA4's offerings and kinda closed my book on the DOA chronicles right there - especially after selling my 360 on.

NOW, HERE WE ARE...
with a new DOA, with a seemingly different graphical approach and better paced gameplay (thus far). Obviously, we can't ignore the fact that the somewhat perverted intentions of Itagaki will now be left behind by the reformation of Team Ninja. After tasting DOA4, I think DOA5 could do well from a change of pace and direction. I respect ALL that Itagaki has done for DOA (and NGaiden too) however, now is the time to move on I think.

As has already been suggested by RiKo, I too hope the mannequin look has been ditched in favour of something, well... more up to date and tasteful.

That trailer excited me. Thus, I'm looking forward to the game as of now! Smile

I DIDN'T OWN...
an Xbox by that point, BUT I did play them on a friends.

Whilst DOA2 ultimate was 'nice', it was pointless I'm afraid. I'd already played my fair share of DOA2 on the DC upon it's release (and for years to follow) and I'd also been playing DOA3 for a considerable amount of time too and had fully embraced it's changes to the gameplay/moveslists and new characters > DC DOA2 etc. When I finally picked up DOA2U, it was a bit of a step back I'm afraid.

As nice as it is that DOA2U was released, it just always came across as a complete waste of time imo, for EVERYONE involved. Intro was great though Thumbs Up

That was almost the same for me Ninja , i bought a Dreamcast and the first game i bought was DOA2. It really looked amazing too, incredible for the Dreamcast at the time. I heard people go on about the gfx in Soul Calibur but i was actually initially disappointed when i saw that running because it just looked normal compared to DOA2.

I agree that DOA4 wasn't as exciting on 360 as previous version had been on their respective hardware. In terms of gfx was quite rough round the edges and wasn't much of a step up. I do really like some of the levels though like the market place one and the one on a main road, its definitely my fav game in the series - although you feel it could have been a lot better if it wasn't a launch game. I think it plays the best. i like that they reduced the counter windows too, so you have to be more skilful with your countering.

I have some! Smile I really liked DOA Ultimate, it was my fav version on Xbox. Some of the levels were amazing too. As Ninja said - they used DOA2 character models/game style but that was a good thing for me because i bought it before DOA3. You got a really cool replay mode that i don't think was quite as advanced in DOA3, and also online play (tho i never played it online!) Ninja was right about the intro although the child versions of Kasumi and Ayane were a bit disturbing. lol (its those big heads)

Virtua Fighter's Akira joins the Dead or Alive 5 character-roster.

YouTube Video

Do you think he fits in? I suppose VF5 is quite a close match for DOA in terms of controls - they both have a similar control scheme. So if they can DOA-ify him a bit, why not? Although not sure if VF fans really like DOA that much...

Noticing that DOA5 has a more mature look than previous installments, i do quite like it -how the characters arent quite so cartoony as before but i hope they dont just make everything dark and put some decent lighting in there too!

WHILST THE INCLUSION...
of Akira Yuki for DOA5 is quite cool, I can't help but feel that he is the worst 'single' character inclusion for such a combo heavy game - seeing as Akira Hakkyokuken (or what ever it's called) sytle is all based around the power of singular blows (like Bahn in FV too).

Seeing as TECMO are seemingly obsessed with Ninja's, it would make perfect sense, imo, to include the likes of Kage and combo happy Jacky & Sarah Bryant too. I guess... the fact that they're my 3 main characters has a role to play in my choice of preference too. Regardless, I feel my logic sticks anyway.

F*ck it... just make a fully fledged X-over and be done with it! Grin

AS AN ALTERNATIVE DIRECTION...
just like Namco tend to include in their Soul Calibur series, I would perhaps like to see a return of SEGA's more obscure 'Shinobi' character. I think, A Joe Musashi/Shinobi vs Ryu Hayabusa/Ninja Gaiden would be beyond epic! (Joe Musashi or Hotsuma from PS2 Shinobi instead perhaps, seeing as he looks amazing!).

Welcome back Ninja Smile

I just read an interview with the guy in charge of DOA5 and he kept going on about how it's inspiried by Ninja Gaiden 3, so you are def right about their ninja obesession.

its good you are here because i dont really know that much about VF but I do think Akira is probably the most recognisable VF character so that could be why they chose him. Most of the extra characters they include in these games seem to be about selling more copies.

Shinobi would be good but maybe that would just be too many ninjas in one game.

btw apparently a new feature in DOA5 is that the characters get dirty and their clothes get ragged. You can see when you look at Kasumi's legs and stockings in the screenshot above.

In DOA5 there's a charge move you can do where if it hits you can choose which part of the scenery to 'blast' your opponent into - often the scenery is destructive, i think that's what you see when it goes into slow motion briefly.

The fights are replays i think, but what you see in them should be the same as in the actual fights, inc the little cut scenes. Like in DOA's 'Watch' mode
