Wait, don't go anywhere! It's not an RPG! It's a new fighter from Arc System Works!
This was announced last week but a trailer was just released so I thought it was a good time to post about it. Gameplay predictably looks similar to BlazBlue, but the personas look like they might be similar to the stands in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. Either way, I've never played a bad Arc System Works fighter, so I'm definitely looking forward to this.

As a fan of both fighters and RPGs I kinda wish they had licensed an RPG that I'm already a fan of. On the other hand, if I really like the characters in this it'll give me a reason to go play the Persona series. But will this follow in Hokuto no Ken's footsteps and be another licensed ASW fighter that doesn't leave Japan?

I'm not sure if that's a good or bad reaction... although I know you don't like BlazBlue so I'm leaning towards bad.
NEITHER REALLY...
it's just fucked. A Persona VS fighting game.
I DO like Blazblue and GuiltyGear actually. I think they're both ultra cool. I just don't enjoy playing them. Too messy for my liking. MVC3 also fits into the 'messy' category for me. Another game I like the look of immensely/enjoy observing MORE than I do actually playing it
There's very few fighters I dislike to be honest...
I dont know what to make of it from just the snippets in the video but Arc do make good fighters. I agree it looks a lot like BlazBlue. I dont know anything about Persona!? but maybe this will give it some kind of back story that actually makes sense (a rarity for a fighter)
I really like the first Guilty Gear X on Dreamcast and would just be happy with a Guilty Gear with much smoother animation. I believe Arc now owns the rights for Guilty Gear again so maybe I will get my wish soon
I get what you're saying now, Ninja. And yeah I totally agree that games like GG, BB, and the MVC games are difficult to play and feel "messy" compared to SF and KOF. I could hope that it will play more like Battle Fantasia, but the video definitely gives off a strong BlazBlue vibe. Being that this game is based off of an RPG series though you have to expect them to make it easy to play for people who aren't into fighters so maybe it won't play as crazy over the top as it looks.
I also know next to nothing about the Persona series, other than it's a spin-off of Shin Megami Tensou, which I also know nothing about. I have been thinking about picking up Persona 3 FES sometime soon though.
And yeah Riko, I read that Arc does own the rights to GG again and that they want the series to continue in some form eventually. We'll probably have to wait until they're done updating BBCS though.
I'd be all for it. I know the team said they have no interest in doing that because they're focusing on BlazBlue now, but of course they didn't rule it out so I wouldn't be surprised if it happened after they complete the BlazBlue saga. It'd be a nice way to introduce players who started with BlazBlue to the Guilty Gear cast before launching a new GG game.
Until then I'm glad that Arc is branching out to something different with this Persona game. It's quite likely it'll be familiar but different just like BB was to GG.
It'd odd though, you mention the possibilities of Ragna vs. Sol when the first thing I think of is Jin vs. Ky. It makes me notice that I always seem to like the second main character more than the real main character. Some of my other favorites are Ken, Iori, Moriya, Robert... uh... Luigi...

I'M ALSO KIND OF...
a 2nd character type person, but it's not always the case. For example, I've always preferred Ryu > Ken and Haohmaru > Genj(y)uro
I always leaned towards Iori when I first played KOF (over Kyo), with 95 being my first KOF - with Kyo and Iori playing more similarly.
Fatal Fury, I've always been an Andy man, although I burn a hot candle for Terry too. I'm not much fussed about Joe outside of FF1 though. But... is Joe, in actual fact, the 'true' 2nd character of FF though, or is there any such thing as a number one - out of those 3?
As for Guilty Gear, I've always been a Chipp man myself - since the PS1. Then Ky. I do like Sol too, but his OTT strength coupled with his agility and ease of use (for beginners) somehow puts me off.
Similarly with Last Blade, I'm a Zantetsu man myself, then Washizuka. I do like Moriya, but I don't fair too well with his 3x QCF combo's, as I always seem to input his cancelling DP's by accident! It really ticks me off
EDIT: Completely forgot to mention, the reason Ragna vs Sol first came to mind > Ky vs Jin is experiencing such a clash of personality and overwhelming power, I think, is a more exciting prospect than the meaker (weaker?) counterparts of Ky vs Jin - even though I prefer to use Ky myself
Looks awesome to me! Maybe it's just because the players are new to the game but it looks a lot more laid back and controllable than BB or GG. It's still crazier than Battle Fantasia though.
Looking forward to this game. I honestly haven't played too much of my copy of Persona 4 since I've been pretty busy over the years and I still haven't quite finished 3 yet. I also started watching the anime recently. I do find it a bit odd they're making a fighting game for it now, but I guess it coincides with the upcoming remake for PSP Vita.
