Nintendo's bull**** localization record.
marktheshark
One of the things that I really hate about this generation & last generation is Nintendo's terrible localization record. How is it that in the last gen & this gen, they're becoming more *** backwards when it comes to this compared to the N64 days?

Let's take a look at the previous two generations & this one:

Notable games for the N64/GBC not released outside Japan (1996-2001):

Custom Robo
Custom Robo v2
Card Hero (GBC)
Sin & Punishment
Pokemon Card GB2 (GBC)

Notable games for the GCN/GBA not released in all 3 major regions (2001-2006)

Kuru Kuru Kururin (GBA)*
Magical Vacation (GBA) (Prequel to Magical Starsign)
Tomato Adventure (GBA)
Fire Emblem: Fuuin no Tsurugi (GBA)
Doshin the Giant GCN version*
Custom Robo GX (GBA)
Densetsu no Starfy 1-3 (GBA)
Nintendo Puzzle Collection
F-Zero Climax (GBA)
Mother 3 (GBA)

*- released in Europe at least.

Notable Wii/DS games not released in all 3 major regions (2004-2011)

Daigasso! Band Brothers (DS)
Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan 1 & 2 (DS)
Densetsu no Starfy IV (DS)
Ash: Archaic Sealed Heat (DS)
Soma Bringer (DS)
Disaster: Day of Crisis*
Another Code: R
Zangeki no Reginleiv
Xenoblade*
The Last Story*
Pandora's Tower*

*- These might be released in Europe.

People are getting fed up about Nintendo's localization record to the point in which some started a campaign (Operation Rainfall) to bring some games (specifically Xenoblade, The Last Story, & Pandora's Tower) to the NA region. A few years before that, Starmen.net attempted to get Nintendo to bring over Mother 3 outside Japan.

The reason why most, if not all, games should be brought over from Japan is that you'll never know what the next big hit would be. Not only that, it gives the customers more of a selection. While a few games might not be be recieved too well, the vast majority of the games actually don't seem too bad.

I agree with you, but the more titles they select in localizing, the more expensive it costs for them to localize. This employee of a North American video game publisher XSEED explains what it's like publishing video games:

Other reasons include one or more of:

* Too much content to modify and make it more marketable
* Poor sales of either the game or its platform in Japan
* Incoming new platform
* Licensed content
* Released on a platform not available in every other region
* Too expensive to localize

There might be other reasons.

FIRSTLY, IN RELATION...
to the 3 games pegged by 'Operation Rainfall': I was really, REALLY surprised to recently learn of the plan to perhaps release it here in Europe, as opposed to in NA! The reason I say this is that pretty much ALL of the localisation will be done for English speaking territories with the PAL version (which no doubt will support 60Hz also?) and also Spanish (SA), French (Canada) and German too. I haven't watched the video Parrothead has posted... so maybe there's more too it than a simple ratings change on the cover art, manual and disc? Hmm

(I'd type more, but I'm using my GF's parents laptop, and it's a piece of sh*t i.e. it's misbehaving)
