Amiga 500 'Demo' I Made
RiKo
This might not mean anything if you never had one of the 16-bit computers but this is a demo i made (in 1990ish) with my brother on the Amiga 500. It was actually really hard for us to do this, even the scrolling message was hard because i had no idea what i was doing. Im not sure what the Funk Effect is meant to be either lol.....I am going to pretend it hasnt aged well but it probably wasnt that good at the time.

YouTube Video

i couldnt find the 2nd disk but if i remember correctly it had a demo for a BluesBrother's game my brother wanted to make and also a spoof Nike advert.

I was a bit shoddy at the beginning because i didnt hide the mouse pointer. I did the programming, my brother Jon did the graphics and the music was all public domain.

Enjoy Smile

I think one word sums up all of this quite nicely RiKo:

lol yes there wasnt much of a linking theme was there?

What worries me is we managed to fill a whole disk - especially since about a fifth of that was probably the 'Insert Disk 2' section.

It's amusing in any case, Riko. I quite like the roadworks animations and the earthshaking soundtrack (although it was just public domain as you said)! Amiga OSTs in general are awesome anyway.

I think that's a good example of how much work and time even a simple programming project like your demo actually takes. Not to think of all these inexhaustible professional programmers that designed, coded, animated, composed, advertised all these C64 and Amiga titles.

Thanks Murikov Thumbs Up I agree the Amiga had the best music. I enjoyed that video Smile When i got my SNES the one thing i was disappointed with was the sound because the Amiga was just so much better in that area, (even though it was 5 or 6 years old at the time!)

That demo was just written in Amos which was a fancy version of BASIC. Even so it was hard because it was a lot slower than assembly langauge so was hard keeping the speed up. Also i understood nothing about screen updates or anything so it was all new. Amos was really great because it gave normal people a chance to make fun games and demos.

Good work RiKo. The music sounds good and I find the bit with the dancing road sign man very amusing! Sounds like it was a lot of work to put this together.

RiKo
Thanks very much Tobalman Smile

Thanks too Merlin Smile yes i think it took a lot longer than we said on the message. I still remember some of the bugs and spending ages trying to fix them. It was a good learning experience though.

Nice to see that there have been others here who has been involved in the so called scene.
I have seen several releases by Mirage if I remember correctly, but nice workSmile I was a member of Scoopex myself. But that seems like ages ago. But the demo scene is still fun to follow although it's not like it used to be.

RiKo
Hi TF73 Smile There was a proper demo group called Mirage (not the same as us). I only found out about them a bit later. I guess Mirage is a good name. We never actually released any demos, we just aspired to be able to make some.

I know Scoopex, one of the really famous groups. i especially remember Mental Hangover Thumbs Up Have you ever thought of making anything on NeoGeo since it's the same CPU as the Amiga? I imagine you could make a pretty cool game....

As for the demo scene i havent really been watching it - but for me it's not the same when the hardware isnt limited. You dont get the wow factor of seeing something you didnt think possible running on a standard Amiga.

A slightly dodgy Mirage production for the Amiga from 1991. We actually wrote this because we thought we might be able to make some money from educational games. (we were young + needed money!)

This compilation was sent to a small software company and was rejected:( ....However we made a new version after this one and changed some of the games to new ones and it got accepted! Smile To my eyes now it's all a bit dull and clunky feeling. A good learning experience though. I was called Lynx in this group - it wasn't embarassing at the time but it is now!

-------------------------------------------

I made this little demo myself but i never finished it. The music is really good but unfortunately i didnt write that:( The balls are real hardware sprites and the VU bars are Copper bars (made by the Amiga's coprocessor hence the name)

I have never been a programmer, so no you wont ever see anything from me made on the NG.
My programming skills stopped a decade ago with Basic on the C64Wink

Here is also a little demo from Scoopex:

Hi TF73 Smile Thats a shame maybe you could do the graphics or sound for a NG game instead.

That demo was after my time:( it's good though! was it on an A1200? I still remember some of the early Scoopex demos with the 3D shapes and scrolly messages .

Yes it's a AGA demo made for the A1200. It was made after my time in the scene also. I think I quit in 95 if I remember correctly. In the end it took up to much of my spare time. But it was fun while it lastedSmile Also fun to see known names from the scene in the games industry today.
