Okkee I've very rencently heard that SNK made MVS carts specifically to rent out to arcade vendors and hotels.
For those that didn't know, SNK made hotel units that were Japan exclusive:

Cool eh? I wish US hotels rooms had these babies. (No, I do not own one of these, I'm poor and pathetic)
Anyways, to go along with these units they introduced rental carts. I have 5 myself:

SS3
RBfFS
Wind Jammers
Aero Fighters 2
FF3
(Some recently bought off Chappy-boy, thanks dude!)
The side says SNK-G. I have no idea what the "G" is for, "game" maybe? They all have JAP labels.
Can anybody (looks at Merlin) confirm the history of these white, milky carts? I happen to fancy them a lot and will buy them as I see them. I'd like to know more about them. Do not confuse these with SNKs solid white carts, as these rental carts are a milky/pearly color. They all say SNK-G on them:

Thanks, and post pics of your rental carts if you got any!

THEY SAY...
you learn something new everyday. Guess what? I just learned that SNK used to have NEOGEO units designed for Hotel use! Heh...
Nah, I had NO idea these existed. Very cool! Cheers for the heads up 2D and, good luck with the SNK-G hunt. I too think those carts look pretty cool

Jesus bloody Christ how come none of us have heard about this, good find 2D very interesting and yeah I would love one of those babys.I assume the unit connected to a hotel tv what a cool item I suppose us guys with our consilised mvs boards dident realize it has actually been done long before we got ours ( by SNK themselves).
I do not own any of them white carts and can not recall seeing them on UK ebay but I would very much like to own one just for the sake of it. |

Those units have popped up before and as I recall, they catch a few grand. Kinda neat if you've got the money to burn. Didn't know about the carts though. Good luck on the hunt.

Thank you, everybody, for the responses. I always thought it was weird how the hotel units used MVS hardware instead of AES.

You know, I feared the same thing when I got my first SNK G cart, so I compared the boards to those on MVS scans.
Link, for those who don't know about MVS scans: http://mvs.gotwal.../Main_Page
Not only did the boards match, but they are in better shape than ANY of my other MVS carts. The chips and boards shone --yes SHONE-- in every one. It's like SNK took special care of their rental carts. No caked on dust or corrosion.
Good to see that some people think SNK G carts look great and good to see that some people own a few.
I just wish I could find some official SNK documentation for what I've only heard discussed on forums.

I remember seeing these on ebay shortly before or after I joined this site, I know there has to be a thread about them on here.
Weird, I thought they were common knowledge at this point.
These are/were fairly common in japan. Here is the Snes/ Super Famicom as well.

Not so weird really, if you consider hotels are a comercial "institution" which want to get paid for their services. Using these hotel units MVS, they could easily keep track of payment for the time each customer wished to play games. You want to play - pay the fee
The alternative would to put in an arcade cab in each hotelroom, which I can imagine wasn´t possible.
Then there´s the cost of the MVS hardware and software which was considerably lower.
Well thats my thought about it atleast

I've seen mini arcades at hot spring resorts. Not exactly what you were saying, I know, but thought I'd mention anyway.
That Super Famicom looks HUGE.

I have a Kabuki Klash to sell if you are interested.
But... what is the value of those cartridges?

Interesting thread 2D. I knew about the hotel unit but didn't realize there were special white MVS rental carts. I can definitely see why they appeal to you. They do look very nice. I wonder how many different Neo Geo titles were released in this rental format. Would be interesting to know. Are these SNK-G carts more highly sought after than regular MVS carts and more expensive? Maybe one day you'll get really lucky 2D and get hold of a Pulstar rental cart.

I have no idea how many titles were released on this rental format. What I'm wondering is how these ended up on the market, maybe the rental service was a failure and they just decided to sell them off after a certain time.

I've bought mine for about the same prices as "regular" MVS carts.

Oh yeah sorry Virtual Boy, I got your PM... but just forgot to respond. Unfortunately I'm not a big fan of Kabuki Klash, I usually don't buy games unless I know I'll play them. I'm not really a collector as much as I am a gamer. Thanks anyways, let me know you come across any other SNK G titles.
