Thought you racing fans might be interested to know that Sega have remade Daytona Usa for the arcades ( although us in the UK may never see a machine). Thankfully it looks like it has not been tampered with much , just smoother graphics by the look of it so I assume it could be a HD remake. Check the link below and have a browse of that website if you have any interest in arcade gaming its cool to see that more games exist than I actually thought did.
AAAHHHH...
sorry dude. This is VERY old news now, although, I would still love to play it. Would be interesting to try the game WITHOUT the Daytona license and without that epic intro theme. Second thoughts, maybe it wouldn't...

nice, my local aracde still has the original Daytona, ive never really been huge into it but i enjoy the odd play. i had the update on my DC - which this game looks a lot like! and i actually bought a steering wheel just to play it (controls werent much good with the pad). you cant knock Sega games with bright blue skies though.
"I remember getting a letter from a schoolgirl who had paralysis on one side of her body. Her mum had given her a copy of Oaarina of Time to keep her occupied in the hospital, and she was inspired by Link not to give up. She started to put more effort into rehab, and she regained the ability to walk again. I realised from that letter the power of games to move people, and the importance of never making a game halfheartedly."

ESPECIALLY...
when the clouds are reflected beautifully off the windshield whilst cruising at approx 150mph - Daytona, SCUD, CTaxi, 355... I'm not choosy!

haha yes Outrun IS the beautiful journey. having said that i think it could be tarted up a bit now its 2011. has a few rough edges that the HD update didnt totally smooth out.....

its true tho the HD version was designed as a visual upgrade on the previous version, so there would have been no harm in smoothing out the jagged edges. i bet they dont leave them in on Outrun 3...

Bright blue skies? Don't you mean Blue Blue Skies?
YouTube Video
I am debating whether or not to sell the Dreamcast Ferrari steering wheel I have at the moment... it's not worth all that much I don't think but it's taking up room. I only use it for Daytona. Maybe I should dig out the Dreamcast again?
This is an emulated version of the original game, obviously made by Sega, but its only improvement is the resolution being 1280x720 now.
I used to play Daytona on the Nebula model 2 emulator quite alot against other people over the internet, it was awesome fun, and playing on the Nebula emulator with a G25 or G27 wheel is pretty much the same as playing on the genuine arcade machine.
Link system over the internet is abit slow compared to the arcade, but the arcade cabs have optical network. It doesnt have much affect on game play. Lots of videos on Youtube.
I actually made a forum for people to organise racing sessions, but not alot of people would use it to inform others of racing sessions, they seemed to just all add each other on MSN messenger then complain about the forum always being so dead!!

yes i am wonderign about that too. i think mine is Ferarri too i cant remember. i had mine out about a year ago but ts not really worth keeping it just for one game. im sure Sega will release a version of Daytona on PSN/XBLA soon ive got MSR too which is a good racer but obviously thats been superceded by PGR games now. i actually bought the US version of MSR just so i could get the replay feature. i love my replays and was a bit annoyed they didnt get time to put one in the Uk one!

I wouldnt hold your breathe on a release for XBOX or PS3 of Daytona, it still pulls too much money in arcades.
BY THE SAME TOKEN...
though and, although I agree with your point, the same surely applies to OutRun2/SP as well? Whenever I hit the arcades PPL are still crowded around playing the 4P SE OutRun 2 cabs... and what an amazing cab is too. However, we still saw/see releases of that game...

I cant say i know what that game is though, or what age bracket it hit in at. When i was about 13 or 14, Daytona was the game on every arcade game player's lips. It was the best game in any arcade, and any arcade that didnt have it, wasnt worth entering according to the many.
Daytona is a game that whenever it has come home, it has NEVER been what it was in the arcade ( except the emulator!! )
Sega Saturn version: Same or very simular control of the car in arcade mode or using the red/yellow or red/blue car, but presentation wize, pathetic.
Sega Saturn CCE version: Piss poor in every sense of the word, control was nothing like Daytona, and the game was more like a knock off than anything else, graphically was better in some ways, but mostly it was not a patch on the original saturn release.
DreamCast i never played, but ive seen videos and alot of people have told me the handling isnt the same, and lets face it, the handling in the original really is what made the game in MANY ways, downshift to put the arse end out, then back to 4th gear and drift very sideways at 300kph, now that's living. The only version ive played where that could be repeated was the original saturn version.
Daytona is one of those games that 10 billion fans across the world would kill to play in arcade perfect form at home, and i mean arcade perfect in every sense of the word, everything as it is in the original machine, cause the game was without equal. It was the best arcade racing game ever made, and no one can dispute this fact, whether they like the game or not.
Sega Racing Classic could very easily be a top selling game if only they would put it on the shelves of game shops for modern consoles. I would personally buy either of the 2 current machines if this game was released and was indeed un-molestered.
The game was perfect then, and the only thing they could do to improve it now is make an online play mode with at least 8 players or more, and add some more tracks. The tracks would have to be of a simular nature to the current tracks, cause those tracks are built around the way the cars handle.
Sega Rally could never hope to be what Daytona was, but it really was an exceptional 2nd place in my opinion. Now this on the emulator requires LAN to play multi player well, but it CAN support up to 8 people like Daytona, just need to use the number 2, 3, and 4 again a couple times!!
