Just registered to the site, but I've been here from time to time whenever a google search brought me here. I finally figured out what was wrong with my MAME for MAC and finally got it to work Thursday night so now I'm looking to get a joystick for my Macbook. I own an AES, but I'm in college so $$$$ is an issue at the moment. So rather than go in worse debt than paying for college for Neo Geo games, I've decided to get a joystick for my computer until I graduate and then pick up an MVS so I can get a true arcade experience.
With that in mind, I've been checking around and it seems to me that all sticks are geared toward SF with their button make up with just a few geared toward SNK style games except that they aren't made with the U.S. style joystick or buttons. Does anyone know where I can get a joystick that has the 4 button layout and the U.S. bat style for my Macbook? This is the best one I've found, but it looks like it isn't compatible with computers:

I don't need an exact replica, but something similar would be awesome as playing a game like Samurai Shodown is meant to be played on a stick like THAT!
Thanks in advance! |

I'd recommend a USB Neo-Stick 2. I got mine new for around $50. If you are used to "old style" AES sticks, this is about as good as it gets. The stick is not as "tight" as an AES stick, but it's a close replica. I use a PC, and it was pretty much plug and play for MAME. Since you use a MAC, I dunno if it'll be that simple. You can find cheap USB Neo-Geo stick 2s on e-bay or Neo-geo.com. Good luck.

Question, does the Neo-Stick 2 have a U.S. or Japanese style joystick? |

It's a replica of an original AES stick, so it has a JPN style. It's a "ball top", the ball is a bit bigger than the ones on original AES sticks though.

I'll pass for now. I'm looking for a U.S. style joystick since that is what I played on. |

You can always pick up a PSX to USB conveter and use a PS1 stick.

Wouldn't it be possible to buy a stick with a Japanese ball top and then mod it changing to a US style bat top without having to change the whole stick? That seems like a good solution.

You can also get this one:

I use it on my MAC too with a USB converter! Works really well and it's build like a tank! Very good parts too from Hori I think!
Or I would recommend you buy a Sanwa or Seimitsu stick!

I'd like the US style buttons as well. I'm just not a fan of Japanese style arcade sticks. |

You can order a custom stick from here:

or buy a x-arcade:

Have you tried both of these makers? Which do you prefer? I hear the x-arcade stick has lag problems, anyone here know about that?
I thought about both of these makers, but not sure if they would come up again on here. If you can recommend a brand, that would be great. |

I haven't tried them and i heard about that lag issue. I don't know x-arcade sticks still have that issue. I'm using a hrap3 for pc and ps3, i changed the ball top with a bat top and it works perfectly. |

How hard was it to switch the joystick out? I'm pretty bad with my hands. |

You can see how you can change it here. See 4:10.

It is very easy. Madcatz TE sticks and hraps have same stick so you can apply this on a hrap too. I also bought my parts from lizardlick.

Sad to say I could easily see myself screwing this up. Thanks anyway. |
