Incredibly sorry for the huge delay in Game of the Week... But its back now! And happy holidays to everyone!
Galaxy Fight is an interesting fighter by Sunsoft, the same makers of the wacky fighter Waku Waku 7, so it definitely has elements of that game. Though its a little outdates..
If you've played Waku Waku 7 before, you're not missing too much by giving this game a pass. Its not rather memorable.. Either way, give your thoughts in the discussion thread below and see what you guys think!
Galaxy Fight
Genre: Fighting Players: 2 Size: 189 megs Released on: AES, MVS, Neo CD, Sega Saturn, Playstation, Wii Virtual Console, Playstation Network
Brief Description:
Galaxy Fight: Universal Warriors, or simply Galaxy Fight, is a 1995 arcade fighting game developed and published by Sunsoft for the Neo-Geo.Galaxy Fight was Sunsoft's first approach into fighting games, and consequently the first game in the genre that the company released for the Neo Geo. Even as a prequel of sorts to Waku Waku 7 (which uses the same engine), the games have few things in common (one of them being the mid-boss, Bonus-Kun). The players choose one of eight characters and travel among the in-game solar system to defeat the opponents inhabiting each of the planets before they get the chance to fight Felden and settle their personal scores with him.
AH YES, GALAXY FIGHT...
I'm actually VERY fond of this game. I think it's pretty good. Sure, the graphical style is a bit odd BUT I find the gameplay to be pretty solid. I'm especially fond of Kazuma, Ralf & Juri. Juri, in particular, is excellent. The most obscure, yet MOST liked (by my friends) is Golden Done. Guys a freak, yet undeniably awesome! Roomi, Alvin, the big Green dude etc are all ok too, BUT I'm not keen on the robot if I were honest.
Enough gabbing! The games is pretty solid and enjoyable. Definitely better than PPL would have you believe...
STE C stated plain, actual hard facts on 26.11.11... "SF4 & MVC3 can go s*ck my knob because KOF (XIII) is king... again"
Galaxy Fight, eh? I can't vote just yet because I haven't played it in so long, but that is mostly because I have never liked the game. I want to like it really bad, but the biggest problem for me has been the unrelenting AI. I do really like some of the character designs though. I'd love to see a cross-over with GF, WW7, and Astra Superstars (Sunsoft's third and final fighting game).
I'll give it another go this week and see if I can warm up to it at all before casting final judgment on it.
Galaxy Fight had indeed a lot of potential, the arranged soundtrack is a blast (Juri's theme is awesome), the character design turns out really well and also most of the (infinitely scrolling) stage backgrounds look really nice.
On the other hand the gameplay system itself seems pretty strange to me. There aren't regular separate Punch/Kick Buttons like in most other fighting games instead there are 3 common attack buttons (light, middle and heavy) which conclude punches and kicks as well, it felt a bit strange when I played for the first time. And as for special moves, imo there are too few. A better command list surely would have improved this game which could have been as good as WW7.
But nonetheless it's a pretty nice game with a striking soundtrack which is worth to take a look on it.
Well, since Galaxy Fight is the precursor to the other 2 Sunsoft fighters, its has some good and bad points, especially the difficulty in later fights, also I've read that GF has "Instant Death Moves" that each character has, but its really unknown on how to actually perform it.
I like Galaxy Fight, as the pool said "Its great! Its okay to come back to it once in a while!"
I like the graphic style and the fast action too.
Some character design is very good... not every one (Roomi sucks)
Kazuma and Juri are my favourites, but i like Gunter, Rolf and G.Done too
I have only tried this once on emulation but I guess it can't be as good as the real thing. I like the character design as well and the music ha! ha!
Is it a hard game? The one thing I remember or what I've heard about this title is the combo system is simple and not too striking as other Neo Geo figters. But I like old school fighters a lot so maybe I should hunt this one down one day in the near future.
