Wow! [FFVIII] is a horrible game in every (and I mean every) respect, but then again, you also thought Ninja Baseball Bat Man is a fun one.
what the hell am I reading.
I know you were talking about Ninja Baseball Batman Glowsquid but I think the first part of that quote from Tobalman was responding to what I wrote about Oriental Legend and not FFVIII. I do agree with you about Ninja Baseball Batman though.
I've been trying a lot of games on Mame recently. Found some really funny Jaleco game called Scud Hammer. You play rock/scissors/paper against a variety of characters and if you win you get to beat them up! Also been playing a variety of 'spot the difference' arcade games like Photo Y2K, Hidden Catch and the ST-V game Ejihon Tantei Jimusyo. Surprising how addictive these games are. Ejihon Tantei Jimusyo has a lot of very amusing bonus rounds. Highly recommended. |

"What the hell am I reading?"
LOL
Those sound like some unique selections Merlin! It's always nice to see people explore the wealth of Japanese arcade games. There are so many zany ones out there, it could take a lifetime to become acquainted with them all.
P.S., I've never even played FF8, but the thought of playing it does nothing for me. |

nice games there Cat, i esp like Rival Schools. i really like that game esp the team up moves. i have the sequel on Dreamcast which is very good, but i wish they had kept the vibrant colours of the first game (colours are more like pastel shades in the second game), also its a bit more complicated and has a striker system. before Capcom announced SFIV a lot of people thought it would be a new Rival Schools game they were announcing, maybe one day soon it will be. hope they dont use the same style as SFIV! wouldnt suit it at all.

I'm going for another run of Crossed Swords.
I want to beat this game!!
On my first run, I got too into button-mashing and accidentally ran the Continue Timer out when I was about to fight the boss. On the second and third tries, the computer crashed when I was halfway through the boss! And worse yet, I didn't think to make a save state either time should something like that happen to interrupt my progress!

I'M WITH YOU RIKO...
I adore the original Rival Schools on PS1. I absolutely hammered it back in the day (like *cough* 12-13yrs ago!) and rinsed every last bit I could out of it - from both discs.
Yep, fantastic game(s). I also own the sequel on DC. Bought it on DAY of release *cough* never played it(!). Well, I did, briefly BUT something didn't click with me like it did with the original - dunno why? Will have to give it another go aaand...
RIKO...
that's where you come in
Do have the JAP versions of these games and, if so, is there a hevay language barrier in them? It's a long time since I played either, but from memory, they're quite story heavy! I only ask as I'm keen to acquire the JAP versions instead of playing my PAL version, for the whole full speed, full screen 60Hz thing really (or does PJustice actually have the 60Hz option? Can't remember!) aaand...
Sorry to ramble on...

the sequel is still great its just a bit more complicated, having 2 extra team mates is maybe a bit too much, but u do get some spectactular team up moves. i do have the Jap DC version of Rival Schools 2 but i havent played it. it comes with a music CD and you get a dating game lol on the game disk that isnt in the western one. the UK (PAL) one has the full 60Hz mode included so i always play on that.
i only have PAL Rival schools 1, the Jap version got a great review i remember in UK press at the time so i would imagine theres not much of a language barrier but if you want to understand the story there might be, i cant really remember the story i am afraid. might be worth checking out a video on youtube of the jap versions. i really like the song at the start on the intro on RS1, is kind of cheesey but great

oh ok i found this
Also carrying over from the first game, the Dreamcast port of Project Justice in Japan includes a character creation mode that allows a player to create their own fighters who can be used in all modes except for single-player. However, the character creation in Project Justice is packaged as a board game, taking place during an inter-school festival, rather than a date sim game like in Rival Schools. As with School Life Mode in the original Rival Schools, though, this boardgame is not included in non-Japanese ports of Project Justice due to the amount of time it would take to translate the mode. Instead, several unlockable sub-characters were included in these ports, built from the character creation parts in the Japanese version.

I've started on a trend of playing Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes and Capcom vs. SNK: SVC Chaos on MAME. Crossover fighting games are a blast!

Merlin and a newly-made buddy on the West Wonderland server are getting me into shooters! Maybe I'm going to have to do a playthrough of the best arcade shooters of all time soon?

Looking forward to it!
Currently making lots of runs through KOF 2000 and 2002. Also, I finally tried out The Last Blade series, and totally fell in love with it! So I've been playing a lot of that too.

Been trying to finish Kizuna Encounter on top of everything else. I FINALLY made it to freakin' King Lion, but he keeps stamping me out in half a second! Argh!

oh i havent really dabbled much in Kizuna, keep going Angela, almost there!
2D - my fav KOF game - good choice
i have been playing GTA4 on 360. i drove to Roman's apartment, and then perhaps predictably went mad when i left and tried to kill as many people as possible. lol i love it when the cops get on your tail! it really reminds me of the old days playing Elite and blasting the spacestations so you could duel with a horde of police Vipers. i find it really hard to play GTA games cos the most fun to be had is just driving about like a mad thing. i really wish it had an action replay function - like Driver, cos so many amazing things happen and you want to watch it again in slo mo from different angles. i still think San Andreas is my favourite of the series though

I´ve been playing Super Mario galaxy 2 and New super mario WII with my three nephews all afternoon today. I have to say I really enjoyed these games, maybe I´ll just have to add the two games to my library...

Aww. I guess you're a kid at heart.
Why don't you show them Super Mario Bros. (the original)? It's pretty much the same thing, except, you know.
As for me, I've delved into some really obscure arcade stuff: shooters, beat 'em ups and games from misc. genres. It's fun playing theses games with others!

Tobalman: Belive me, I´m doing my best to educate the kids in "old-school" gaming. But we play these newer games also.
Which "obscure" games are you playing, any specific?
