What are you playing ?

Tobalman said :- At the recommendation of merlin, I just played Silk Worm ARC

Everyone always used to say the Amiga/Atari ST version of Silkworm was better than the arcade. i dont think it was for technical reasons but for some kind of gameplay improvement. There was an unofficial vertically scrolling sequel called SWIV with the SW part standing for Silkworm. i remember it was one of the first games with dynamic loading so you had one continous level i think. you could have 2 players - 1 in heli and one in jeep. i think that came out on Megadrive too.

i played FIfa 10 with a friend today, was good fun but none of us knew how to play it properly so it there was lots of kicking over the bar, haha. we also played Trials and Space Giraffe. Does anyone know of a more arcadey football game on 360? Fifa 10 is good but its gone very much in the simulation direction, so would be nice to have a more arcadey one too for quick thrills.

I had no idea there was a Silk Worm IV Riko! The first two sequels must've been obscure releases (much like the Operation Wolf sequels). If I ever get the inkling to play the Genesis again, I'll give it a try.

OK, now, I just played through The Legend of Silk Road, and I actually like it. Grin Yes, it's kind of cheesy, but I've got not major qualms with the game; it's good, cheap, generic action (and, I think that's all Silk Road is supposed to be). However, it would've seemed more at home on the original Playstation (am I right, or am I right?). I'll play it again, maybe not tomorrow, but soon.

Been playing (Metal Slug) Mobile 4 on my RAZR, although I prefer the original Mobile over all this new stuff...

Here's one for you guys
Golden Axe: Revenge of Death Adder
An oldie, but goodie, and I wouldn't be surprised if some of you are very familiar with the title.

HexElf
Final Fantasy 13
Mega Man 10
Red Alert 3 Ultimate Edition (ie PS3-version)

In that order.

FF13 is a bit of a mixed bag at the moment but 12hrs in I still like it and the heroine Lightning is like the greatest thing ever. Also graphics are almost too good to be true Grin

Mega Man 10 was also a mixed bag in that it's a damn good game, yet clearly inferior to the stellar prequel in many ways. Very cool bosses though!

Red Alert 3 actually exceeded my expectations. The FMV cut scenes are tongue in cheek all the way, the three factions are all very diverse and fun to play and overall I am surprised at how well EA was able to make an RTS work on a console.

MM10, as well as 9, do sound intriguing... I'll just wait for the ROMS though Smile

Err... the ROMs? How would that work exactly considering both games are DLC only? ^ ^; sorry I'm just confused.

It just seems, to me, that widespread emulation is inevitable. Anything electronic can be taken apart and put back together. It is my understanding the information needed to emulate has been leaked/discovered already. I'm not a programmer, so I can't provide the details you request. I know for a fact, though, the games in question are ROMs (but not NES ROMs). As of this post, I don't know of any way to play MM9 or 10 outside of the current home systems... Smile

I just played this really weird game called Knuckle Bash. I can't recommend it though. Horrible stuff, all the way around. I've also beat Ikari Warriors and Shock Troopers. IW is worse than I remembered; the ridiculous difficulty makes it unenjoyable. The whole ST experience left me underwhelmed (puts on flame retardant suit Stress ). It's frustrating to destroy a boss, and then die in the process, i.e., you die when he/it dies. This robbed me of the satisfaction of winning numberous times, including the last boss battle. Also, the powerups are not spread out enough. Real Sad I'm currently browsing Wikipedia's extensive lists of beat 'em ups and hack and slashes (yeah, they're pretty much the same thing, I just feel like being nerdy and technical today), looking for my next fix. I just wish there weren't so many contemporary games listed. They confuse me.

Still playing Bayonetta (almost beat this) and Aliens vs Predator now, and I'm probably picking up God of War 3 really soon.

oh it was a unofficial straight sequel from Silkworm, i think made by the same team who converted the coin-op to the 16bit platfrom. The IV bit stood for some kind of Vehicle. (the V stood for Vehicle). it got good reviews though. I think it was on SNES under the name Super SWIV.

RE5's Lost in Nightmares scenario was kind of a letdown for me. Way too short and lacked a variety of enemies.

SWIV...
one of my fave SNES games tbh. Silk Worm Interdiction Vehicle (I think?)... or something like that. Sales Curve FTW! I assume SWIV is actually SWorm 4?

Great series. I remember playing the sidescrolling versions on the Amiga many years ago (SilkWorm 1 & 2 maybe?). Great stuff!

Somehow I keep coming back to Cross Edge even when I'm supposed to be playing other games. Sure it's like the longest game in the universe but with the Darkstalkers roster and Etna to accompany you, how could you possibly get bored? ^ ^;
I'm actually in the post game now and there's still like a hundred hours of work left...

AMUSINGLY...
been putting my time in with a certain Mr Kuts in Tobal 1&2 of late! Can NEVER get enough of those games... ahhh! Ehrgeiz is not too shabby either...

JUST THIS EVENING...
I managed to finish off the 2nd scenario on Shinobido for PS2... another underrated gem. Kind of a free-form Tenchu if you like! I have completed the game previously whilst under the employment of Sadame. Complete it tonight under Ichijo and will complete it some other point this year under Akame. Shame that we may never see a sequel :(

I have also NEARLY completed BurnOut3 too! Played through 170 of 173 races 5 YEARS AGO and never finished it!! Put it on the other day to try and complete it (my last save on the mem.card WAS dated 05!!) and still can't! Did one GP so I'm now 171/173... those last races are near impossible Shock

I'M ALSO...
at the final couple of chapters of Yakuza 2 and have been for MONTHS! The UK release of 3 has spurred me on to finish it though. I need Yakuza 3 as it 'should' give me a reason to use my PS3... finally! Grin

How about yourself good Tobalman? What you been up to of late?? Smile

You are playing quite a variety of games atm Ninja! Gotta agree with all the nice things you've said about Tobal of course. It basically was made by the ppl who were behind the Virtua Fighter and Tekken. I'm glad I finally beat both quests half a year ago; it's been a long time coming bro (I assume you've beaten them too?)! Wink I can't agree with your praise for Ehrgeiz though. It's a bad, half assed attempt by DF and Square visually and gameplay-wise, and a shameless cash in on the FFVII franchise, IMO. Some of the OST is really good though (same guy behind the Tobal 2 music), but they're too fast paced for my taste. The only track I can listen to at normal speed is Escape from Airship! I like playing Elevator at 0.5 times the normal playback speed and Dungeon 1 at about 0.75 of the playback speed... Anywho!

Recently, I have been drudging through a sh*t load of early/mid 90s arcade beat 'em ups. Most of them are quite forgettable, so I shan't, or can't, drop any names (honestly, I've beat about a dozen this month alone). They're bad, and let's leave it at that! Smile

Wikipedia has compiled a handy list of half fighting, half beat 'em up games
http://en.wikiped..._%27em_ups.
There are a few, one especially called Guilty Gear Isuka, I am curious to try. Check it out near the bottom; have you played any of those, and if so, are they worthy of playing?

HexElf
Guilty Gear Isuka is basically Guilty Gear meets Smash. It has two playing fields just like Fatal Fury and the fights can contain up to four fighters on screen at the same time. You turn around manually by pressing a button unlike other fighting games. Other than that it's just Guilty Gear XX with new stages, new music and a new boss.
