Playing Gunbird 2 on DC. Really like this game, I wish I was actually good at it, though.

Is this considered a "bullet hell" game? Seems like it.

Great game and yes, it's considered a Bullet Hell (my most favorite type of games besides Fighting Games).

I'm playing Shikigami No Shiro (G-NET) and Progear No Arashi (CPS-2) a lot lately.

My roomate and I have been playing Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale a lot lately. It's much more fun than I expected it to be. Also, it plays so differently from Smash Bros. that I think the two series can definitely co-exist even if people will always refer to All-Stars and a Smash clone. People used to refer to the likes to Fatal Fury and KOF as Street Fighter clones too, so maybe if a few more good party/arena fighters are released people will finally stop using the stupid "clone" word.

Such a dumb, closed minded way to describe a video game. "All first person shooters are Doom clones!" "All platformers are Mario clones!" "All videogames are Space War clones!"

TL;DR version: Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale is fun.

Well, I just got done playing Target Earth on the Genesis before I left for the office... and as you can see I'm getting lots of work done right now.

I fully agree that the "clone" terminology isn't only lame, but it's frustrating to hear, more often than not. FPS "X" is a Call of Duty clone, for example.

Never played PSA Battle Royale, but actually always wanted to. As it happens, I don't actually like the Smash Bros series (I don't enjoy how they play tbh) so... maybe I'll like PSA Battle Royale instead? Also, I find the concept of using Sony's protagonists quite alluring, I think, just to see them in action and see what Sony did with them re: realisation into fighting game characters...

I don't know UK prices but in the US it's about $20 now and it's definitely worth it. It's far from being just Smash with Sony characters, as you've probably heard it described by people who've never played it. I really hope there's a PS4 sequel with the obvious additions of Crash and Spyro... it honestly does feel a bit less like a celebration of the Playstation without them.

I'm playing Soul Calibur on my Dreamcast (which seems to have now turned yellow while it was in the box) to see if it's still a great fighter. The answer so far is - it is, I'm enjoying it. Bit shocked though that those once stunning graphics now look a little dated. At the same time though it's still a very beautiful game. And like I always say, games that run at 60fps/Hz never really age.

Also still playing Zarch (Archimedes) one of my all time favourite games now and also this

Knightlore on the Speccy. A tough game and can be annoying because every now and again the main dude freaks out and turns into a werewolf. Usually just as you are trying to evade a monster - which will then kill you because you can't move when you are changing. Arggh.

Dreamcast graphics, if I'm honest, still wow me MORE than current gen shit.

Whilst richer in certain details, modern titles lack the vibrancy and art direction and soul of the 128-bit era of Japanese videogames and earlier.

For me, the West reaffirming it's solid grip on the gaming industry (not since the 80's really) is the worst thing that could have happened to gaming, for me personally...

I would definitely like it if more Japanese developers could put out great AAA titles without so much outsourcing to the west these days. I don't want a western take on Castlevania! I want my Castlevania to be exactly the way it was!

A few Japanese gems have trickled through this generation. Ni No Kuni instantly comes to mind, as well as (obviously) King of Fighters XIII. But I do miss the Dreamcast days as well.

...in stark contrast to the above paragraphs, I've been playing a ton of Minecraft lately. Smile

I agree with that, if you compare Crazy Taxi on 360/PSN to the Dreamcast one I bet the DC one looks more vibrant. I haven't done that particular comparison but Soul Calibur on Dreamcast looks sharper than the 360 version and Crazy Taxi 1 on DC looks sharper than CT3 on Xbox. Everyone always says the DC has a great RGB output but also a lot of recent games now use depth-of-field effects where objects in distance are softened - great for realism but you lose vibrancy and clarity.

Still playing Zarch. I had to land here because my fuel was getting low. Normally you are 100% safe when you land at your base because your fuel/energy replenishes faster than you lose it. But not when there are masses of psycho ships around!

YouTube Video

This is the first level where the gravity increases so it's tougher to fly your ship and you lose fuel fast. I know someone who claims to have got to level 30+ on this game. I have no idea how.

I'm mainly playing Captain Commando and Warrior Blade Rastan Saga III at the moment. Trying my best to improve at Captain Commando. I always play as Jennety. My best so far was getting to stage 7 on one credit but I still make a lot of mistakes in the earlier stages. Watching people play it in the arcade really helps. I'll keep practicing.

I really love Rastan Saga III! Seems like quite an underrated game that isn't mentioned all that often. Love the stage designs especially riding on horseback through a forest and flying through a canyon on the back of a dragon. Boss designs are very cool although a bit too easy to defeat. There are more moves in this game than people might realize.

Playing 3DS and hurting my thumbs because the d-pad is in such a crap place on the original small one - I'm sure Nintendo do this on purpose!

I have also being playing Gone Home on PC, which I have mixed feelings about. I can see what they are trying to do - create a narrative using subtle clues hidden in the house but the whole game can just feel like the bit in Shenmue where you search through Ryo's house - except here there's no Sega Saturn to uncover or Fuku-san to spar with in the dojo.

Not really played much during the summer as weather have been superb!!
But Forza 5, KOF XIII and Wolfenstein have got a little attention.

I've been playing Fatal Fury Special on MVS skill level. Forgot how hard this game is. I think it took me about 8 attempts before I got past the first stage! After that I started to remember little tricks to beat the cheating AI.

I've been playing Real Bout Fatal Fury 1-2 with some friends at my local arcade center. Excellent fighting games both and pretty hard too, specially real bout 1.

I beat TNMT for NES for the first time ever.

It was an infamous game here in the states, one of those games everyone experienced, yet no one could beat. Once the player becomes skilled at: jumping at different heights, falling off platforms on command, blazing through enemy-filled rooms and knowing key locations, it is a reasonably challenging experience.

I remember playing TNMT on the NES in the late eighties/ early nineties and beating it quite a number of times...I was way better at playing video games back then than now...now I really suck.

At the moment I'm still playing Dark Souls II (over 130 hours of gameplay now), Akai Katana and Dodonpachi Saidaioujou...all fantastic games and really difficult.

I'd say TMNT is quite hard so beating the game is a good achievement. I used to play that one a lot at least 15 years ago but never managed to beat it.

Really enjoying Shock Troopers at the moment. Definitely feel I'm getting better at the game but I'm still finding the stage 5 boss (mountain route) very difficult. The final boss is easier.
