Jesus dude! You still on with Gunlord all this time later? I seem to remember we discussed this over at the 'other' site some time ago (when it came out).

I never did go back and finish it btw. Shame, as it IS a solid shooter. Decent. Not £400's worth of AES cart mind, but certainly worth the entry fee required for the DC version imo.

At the moment I'm participating in the 'Game of the Week' equivalent on another forum *boo hiss*, but it's every fortnight instead.

This fortnight has been spent trimming valuable seconds off laps in Time Trial mode in the original version of WipEout for the SEGA Saturn. It's nowhere near as nice as the PS1 original, but it's playable enough.

I also hit up Tobal No.1 and Tobal 2 consecutively the other day (oh yes! Still a big fan!) and had a crack at Tobal 2's quest mode too. Pretty tough though...

I quit Gunlord for a long, long... couldn't get past level 6. Picked it back up about a month ago... Now I've made it to level ten, but can't beat the final boss.

Yeah, I too am guilty of playing it when it first came around (for DC) and then not going back since that initial window. I really should though. It's a decent game!

I'm playing Dragon's Crown on PS3 right now and absolutely loving it. Reminds me of the old D&D TOD/SOM arcade games.

I've mainly been playing Age of Pirates 2 for PC recently, the fourth game in Akella's popular pirate action RPG series. I love the mixture of sea battles, completing quests, trading and exploring jungles, caves, settlements etc. You can build powerful fleets of ships, work for one of the nations or be a pirate it you prefer. The map is quite large with lots of colonies to visit and many inland areas to explore.

Is anyone else here a fan of this series? Well worth giving AOP2 a try if you haven't played it before.

I got the PS2 port when it came out (already being a fan of the UK release of 'Devil Kings' i.e. Basara)...

But I admit to being guilty of never giving it a fair crack of the whip.

Probably the ArcSysWorks logo put me off! Pfft

Just to update on what I played last...

The other night, for whatever reason, I felt like sitting down with the rather excellent Capcom Generations 1 compilation: the 194X series (42, 43, 43Kai).

Never really occurred to me before until I sat down and tried to play them properly, but they are quarter munching levels of impossibility throughout imo!

Your energy, which doubles as your fuel, constantly runs at an ongoing loss. Your powerups are timed. Amidst the chaos, you have to shoot through the POWer ups, to change between your desired weapon or energy of choice. Which can be unintentionally tricky. My favourite... PLENTY of enemies that approach from BEHIND. Plenty of oncoming enemies that attempt to circle round and behind your plane, whilst shooting you in the back. And contact with any such enemies has VERY severe penalties on your health/fuel status.

Arrrgh!

The most annoying thing? They look and play so wonderfully! Not to mention, the music is iconically epic (esp. 1943).

But the difficulty REALLY detracts from the enjoyment for me, vs (for example) the 1945 series :(

Those Capcom Generations compilations are great Ninja. I have a few of them for Saturn. It's a pity 1941 Counter Attack wasn't included which is my favourite in the series. Seems like 1941 is easier than other games in the series.

I'm playing a game for the BBC Micro that no will have heard of called Tetrapod. A friend had it when I was a kid and I only just found out what it was. It's an interesting game though. Also some Ghouls N Ghosts (Arcade).

Playing Gods on the Amiga.

I really like this game. it has an addictive quality. Your man is quite slow to respond but it works well in the game, and you have to plan ahead. I always thought the SNES version was too fast which was shame since it could have been a lot better than the Amiga version.

Meh.

I really just don't get on with the way European amiga games look and play. I just struggle to get past it. I have Legend of Galahad (Leander) on MD, and that falls into the same sort of soulless category.

Obviously, games like Turrican & R-Type are the exception to the rule, and no doubt others too, but in general, I just don't enjoy the whole Zool, James Pond, Super Putty, Super Frog... thing. To name but a few.

I agree with those, although I only played Zool for the first time (CD32 version) a year ago and it was no where near as bad as I was expecting and I quite liked how he can climb up vertical surfaces. I do like Gods though.

I was shocked at the time when they ported Shadow of the Beast to so many platforms. It was seriously impressive from a technical point of view on the Amiga and a very atmospheric game but the gameplay was terrible. Most of the console ports didn't look (or sound )anywhere near as good as the Amiga version and it made me wonder how it sold.

Yakuza 3. I'm enjoying the series so much and now I have time to immerse myself in chapter 3. Just great stuff.

I haven't gotten around to 3 & 4 yet, but throughly, THOROUGHLY enjoyed Y1 & Y2.

Y1 is probably one of the best games I have ever had the pleasure of engaging with i.e. playing! Grin

Playing Gunbird 2 on DC. Really like this game, I wish I was actually good at it, though.

Is this considered a "bullet hell" game? Seems like it.

Sill playing Project Justice on DC as well, really love this game.

Anybody know where I can score Giga Wing 2?

I really like GunBird 2, but I find it REALLY hard later on. I don't know if I've ever finished that game due to Psikyo's usual credit feed blocking antics re: restart on continue vs respawn Angry

Plus, you can't recollect all your "P" if you die later...
