What are you playing ?
RiKo
I've been playing El Shaddai and Deathsmiles on my 360. Still trying out games I haven't played properly.

El Shaddai looks amazing and I love the biblical/heavenly setting but I get the feeling the combat and linear exploration will become repetitive over time. Still it's not a bad game at all.

I really enjoyed Deathsmiles. Only bad thing I can think of is that there were far too many versions of the game to choose from! I just chose 'Arcade'. Keeping it simple Smile A really immediate shooter with fun gameplay systems and the smart bomb is amazing. This would be a great game to play at Halloween.

I'm jealous! I bet that costs a bomb now too. What are your top 3 Cave schmups Cthulhu?

Probably too expensive at the moment...like most retro/ arcade games.

My top three Cave games?

1. Guwange: the most original Cave game ever created, they made something they wanted to make and the love shows. In my opinion a true piece of gaming art.
2. Ketsui: In my opinion the best shoot em up ever created. I used to dislike this game, but I realized the pure brilliance of this game when I tried to play it for scoring. The scoring system is one of the biggest adrenaline rushes in Shmups...getting up close and personal all the time while seeking out opportunities to score big (waves of popcorn enemies). Graphics might be a bit drab, but they grew on me as they really fit the atmosphere of the game and the music fits great as well.
3. Dodonpachi Daifukkatsu Black Label: A huge improvement over the original with better music (in my opinion) and it's a lot more difficult, also the auto bomb feature can be switched off in Black Label, which I prefer.

I'm quite fortunate having bought quite a lot of Cave PCB's before they became ridiculously expensive. I still really want Pink Sweets, but I can't justify spending that much on one game (again).

You are a true Cave connoisseur. I really like the look and style of Guwange from videos i have watched. Where do you rate Progear?

Looking at Ebay prices - I am now thinking i could earn a living just from buying a CAVE pcb every time one comes out! I kept thinking I should do that with NGDevteam games but I can never actually be bothered TBH This could be how you can afford to buy Pink Sweets

Progear? I would rate it somewhere in the middle as average as a Cave game. Not that it's a bad game, but it somehow doesn't really feel like a Cave game, the game feels as if Capcom had too much to say in designing the game. The artwork and especially the music is nothing like any other Cave game, the music is in my opionion too mellow and the character designs are too much in Capcom's style. I even think the bullet patterns aren't really typical for Cave, but the same goes for DeathSmiles, except for the bullet patterns when fighting Jitterbug. Cave didn't think DeathSmiles was a true Bullet Hell/ Danmaku and it's easily Cave's easiest game...even I can 1 CC it.

Yes, one of the easiest ways of getting Pink Sweets apart from saving up for it, is selling other games I have...I have some really really expensive ones. But I won't do that as I play all of my games regularly and I rarely let go of games. Maybe I'll save up for Pink Sweets in the future to complete my Cave collection as I have one version of each normal PCB they released apart from Pink Sweets, Matsuri editions and Black Labels.
I have:
- Akai Katana.
- Dangun Feveron (Japanese).
- DeathSmiles.
- Donpachi (Japanese).
- Dodonpachi (Japanese).
- Dodonpachi Daioujou.
- Dodonpachi Daifukkatsu Black Label.
- Dodonpachi Saidaioujou.
- Espgaluda.
- Espgaluda II.
- Esp Ra.De. (Japanese).
- Guwange.
- Ibara.
- Ketsui ~Kizuna Jigoku Tachi~.
- Muchi Muchi Pork!
- Mushihimesama.
- Mushihimesama Futari.
- Progear No Arashi (Japanese).

I like Progear a lot. Sometimes I think about buying it on CPS2 but I think I want Dimahoo more

I found Deathsmiles fairly easy - I am normally really bad at bullet hell schmups. I thought I must have got better... :/

I sold my original Fast Striker MVS for £1200 because I bought the AES reprint version but I never sell on games that I like normally. You have some great Cave pcbs! but I am still most jealous of your Blazing Star AES. Still gutted I didn't buy it when it was around £480 on Ebay. I thought "OK that's too expensive now..."

I hope one day you can get Pink Sweets!

I'm bad at all shmups to be honest, but I really love playing them.
I'm still glad I bought Blazing Star for the AES, but I also thought that it was quite expensive at the time (€500), also still quite happy with Twinkle Star Sprites that I found for €400, it's a fantastic game.
You should buy Dimahoo, it's a very nice game and it's not that expensive. I have that one on CPS2 as well.
As for Pink Sweets, not going to buy that anytime soon I'm afraid. I'm a bit low on funds as I have a new tattoo now and that has drained my bank account quite a bit. It's finally finished after 9 sessions. It's a full Tebori sleeve (traditional Japanese Tattoo).

You got some great AES games, you only missed out on Metal Slug AES Grin

I'm looking out for Dimahoo. I only want maybe 3 more arcade PCBS now but they are hard to find. I also want a blue COTA on CPS2 which was everywhere at one point, but now I can't find it!

I checked out your tattoo. Looks great! I like the colours too (y)

I'm still playing 360 games.

I've just been playing Rockstar Table Tennis which I really enjoyed. It only cost me £1. This is even better than the Spectrum days when you'd buy budget games brand new for £1.99 (£3.98 in today's money)

Also played Enslaved : Odyssey to the West which I think was the next game from the people who made Heavenly Sword on PS3. I actually enjoyed this too although it did have one of those opening levels which was just a massive set piece. The combat seemed very weighty which I liked. I'd definitely like to play this more and see where it goes

Tonight I’m going to play Whispering Willows (PS4) to celebrate Halloween. Also busy with Mafia 2 DLC (PS3).
