What are you playing ?
RiKo
Tobalman - I always wondered who played those Majong games - cos there are loads of them. Im impressed you can play!

Mojo wrote :- Crimson Viper is a very complex character to play as, but she is extremely deadly in the right hands. In my time online with SFIV I noticed a lot of people were picking here that didn't know how to use her effectively so I killed them. Then I'd run into a good C.Viper player and I'd have no answer for almost everything they did.

I havent met a single Viper player yet in SSFIV. There seem to be quite a few Dudleys though. The best player i fought was a Ibuki- i was shocked at how good they are. Its even worse cos i never get to fight against her so I didnt really have any idea of what i was defending against.

I noticed a lot of people were picking here that didn't know how to use her effectively so I killed them.

That was me lol. well...I have improved a little more as Viper but i am still pretty terrible. I am determined to keep playing until i get better though....I alternate between Cammy and Ryu when I am not playing as Viper.

Sorry to be boring but I am still playing SSFIV. I have improved slightly and I beat someone better than me today whilst playing as Viper so I was quite happy. My record with Viper is now something like 40 games, 10 wins. The only way is up!

I now use Viper's Super jump loads and it stops boring fireball-wall throwers cos you can jump straight over them from miles away and knee them squarely in the face.

10 out of 40 games while learning a character actually isn't bad at all.

I finished Hydrophobia, although I had no idea that it was planned from the start to be a trilogy so I was pretty pissed when the credits rolled without anything being resolved. I guess that's okay since there are supposed to be 2 more games, but I didn't like it enough to pay full price for the sequels so I'll definitely wait until those are on sale like I did with the original.

I'm also still really enjoying Final Fantasy VI. It's not gonna be my favorite RPG by any means, but it's really fun and they characters are surprisingly well developed.

RiKo
Thanks Mojo, most of those wins have been in the last few days. I am really enjoying learning her.

EDIT: oops I was wrong about my C.Viper record its 112 games 12 wins. At least i am getting a lot of experience (of being whooped)

I was interested in Hydrophobia at the preview stage but then when the final product was released i heard it wasnt meant to be that good. was a shame really, because it was an interesting idea. I dont think i will buy that.

As for FFVI I do really want to play that at some point. Also its from the time before RPGs got full of fat and became bloated. So even better Smile

To get some impressions of how NGDEVs Gunlord might be, I have been into the Turrican series lately. I was quite unoriginal and I started with Mega Turrican / Turrican 3 for the Mega Drive (over emu). This one is pretty hard (the second last stage took me ages) but in overall aspects it's a very well designed, fun Run&Gun with a fantastic soundtrack composed by Chris Hülsbeck. It's also noteworthy that Mega Turrican's gameplay is much more straight-forward than the other Turricans, with considerably less large stages and hidden secrets.

Just as Ninja recommended it in the Gunlord thread once, I only subscribe his opinion. If I had Mega Drive, I would definitely pick up Mega Turrican for good order's sake.

A very good article about the series can be found on Hardcoregaming101.

I'll go for Super Turrican (SNES) next...

Yeah, I definitely think Mega Turrican (T3) is the best in the series, out of all the ones I have played (1, 2, 3/Mega, Super and Super 2). Super Turrican 2 was great as action platformers go, but was really only Turrican in name alone imo. Super Turrican 1 is great on SNES, but iis pretty much a remake of Turrican as far as I could tell.

Mega Turrican ALL the way, I reckon Thumbs Up

YEAH. DEFINITELY!...
let me/us know how you get on with that one too. Maybe try some of the others too, if you get chance? I'd be interested to hear someone elses opinions on this series!Wink

Thanks Ninja!

I just come from completing Super Turrican 1 & 2 and I've really had a blast playing them, especially the first one. I'm glad as well that The Machine (what a name for a villain) bite the dust for good this time.

I especially agree with you about ST2 of not being really a Turrican, everything felt very different compared to it's prequel and the other Turricans. Even the music which came from the Mastermind Hülsbeck itself sounded not "turricanish" for any reason. After all it's pretty good for a SNES game, but it has many flaws to be an epic Turrican title.

The first Super Turrican on the other hand is brilliant, not as good as it's twin brother Mega Turrican, but still a blast. I think the balance between hidden secrets and straight-forward action was very well engineered by Factor 5. As much as I know it's pretty recycled from the original Turrican 1 & 2, but it stands very well as a good, independent Turrican title imo.

Next candidates are the original Turricans (the first one came out on Mega Drive, the highly-praised sequel has to wait on the Amiga emulator)...

wow you are going Turrican mad Murikov Thumbs Up. I played Turrican 1 at the time on the Amiga and i never liked it as much as everyone else seemed to. It was a good game but i found the enemies all a bit small (possibily a limitation of the Amiga), and i for some reason i didnt really like exploring in that game. I did also have Turrican 2 which i know was meant to be the best of the original Turricans but it was on a compilation and i can't really remember playing it now (terrible i know lol). Good luck with your Turrican playing Thumbs Up I also want to get Super Turrican on SNES one day Smile Ninja is definitely the man in the know when it comes to Turrican games!

Final Fantasy VI has been put on the back burner for the past week, mostly due to the fact that I discovered Death Note and got addicted. It's an addiction that I share with my girlfriend too, so it kinda took precedence over gaming.

I have had time to squeeze in some RBFFS and KOF Sky Stage for the High Score Challenge forum. Having to turn up the difficulty in KOFSS has shown me just how hard the damn game can be. As it is right now, I cannot effectively play as anyone but Kyo.

I plan on diving headfirst into one of the Turrican games soon. Probably Mega Turrican. I feel that I should at least complete one of them before I play Gunlord.

In anticipation of Sonic Generations I put in Sonic Heroes the other day. I'm almost all the way through Team Sonic's story now. It definitely fits right in with Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 in that there are times when it just feels perfect, and other times where it's pure frustration. Visually it's still a gorgeous game... I actually was a little shocked that it still looks as good as it does. And the music deserves a special mention. It might be my favorite overall soundtrack in the series. Team Rose's theme and Egg Albatross are definitely some of my favorite tracks from Sonic games.

I also finally decided to give Cthluhu Saves the World a go and man is it awesome! For $3 if you have even a passing interest in old school RPGs I highly recommend it. One feature that has to be mentioned is the limited number of random battles. Each area has a specific number of random battles so if you take too long in an area trying to find where to go you can eventually focus solely on exploring and not be constantly interrupted. This helps avoid so much frustration! And if you want to keep fighting to level up you can activate a battle from the menu at any time. So far I haven't found a single thing not to like about the game.

Yay, vacations have only just begun and I could finish that pain of a game Turrican 1 for the Mega Drive. Well, I need to agree with Riko that I found it rather uninspiring and a bit unpolished as well, compared to it's sequels. A few Boss fights were terrible and some stages were also annoying as hell (on the map below for example the whole green middle section and the red one on the right. And these sections are damn long).

img691.imageshack.us/img691/7139/worldofturrican.jpg

As for the highly praised sequel I'm still doubtful which version to play. To begin with there's the original Amiga version everyone knows, secondly there's a PC fanmade remake called "T2002" or the bad seed in the Turrican family, Universal Soldier (no joke).

Believe it or not, Ballistic, the production company behind the first Mega Drive port of Turrican, decided midst in development to change the beloved Turrican II into a new game with no one else as protagonist than JEAN CLAUDE VAN DAMME, THE MUSCLES FROM BRUSSELS!

How could they do that?! What were they thinking?!

OK, at least the kept the terrific soundtrack, but the whole scenario and even the Bosses were changed completely (Boss #1 for example changed from a robot to a gigantic DOLPH LUNDGREN). Oh my.

I think I'll stick to the original. Thumbs Down

YEAH, SORRY. I FORGOT TO MENTION...
that Turrican 1 for the MegaDrive is, in fact, a pretty horrible experience. The gameplay etc is fine imo, it's just the actual health/damage aspect that totally ruins it for me.

You're a brave man to play it through to completion. I have it on the MD myself, and can't stomach more than quarter of an hours worth myself Shock

Mega Turrican & Super Turrican. That's my final word on the subject... Wink

I love that map you printed Murikov, a map like that can make you go and play a game. They used to print lots of those type-of maps in Videogame magazines

I am still playing Super Streetfighter IV when i am able. I still never train (i do all my training in game) I think i should but it's just i wouldnt have time to play the game if i did. I really need to learn some combos. Anyway I am still determined to become the best Crimson Viper player in the world. Some way off that at the moment though. My record is 202 matches 30 wins with C. Viper. Try to focus on the wins Smile

Oh my... I didn't know about that van damme game? I actually want to try it now just out of curiosity!

Playing gears of war 3 at the moment. Seems great, but perhaps not quite as good as gears 2 so far. May change my mind by the end though!

I don't think I can fault them for turning Turrican into Universal Soldier. They could have developed a shitty side scroller when they got the Universal Soldier license and left us in the US without Turrican, but instead they just slapped a new coat of paint on a game that they already knew was good. In other words we could have had a crappy game and no Turrican at all.

Of course now-a-days there's no reason to play that version over the real thing though.

I've been wading through SNES roms to find out what games I want to buy for my newly acquired SNES. I just discovered Skyblazer which is a pretty awesome action/platformer. I also discovered the Go Go Ackman series which never left Japan. They're based off a manga by Akira Toriyama and they're pretty damn good. The content is too weird for western audiences so I totally understand why they never saw a US release. They're pretty cheap as far as SFC imports go so I'll probably add them to my collection soon.

I've been playing an RPG for the VMU called Nanwaka Densetsu. According to the company screen, it was made by Climax, and the game feels like a professional offering. I'm not sure if it's homebrew or a leak of an unreleased official Sega game. It's pretty traditional, straightforward stuff, but fun when out and about. I've also picked up Metal Gear Solid, a game I never got around to playing back in the day. The controls suck. LOL Overall, the game is a bit slower than I prefer; the stealth theme is cool, but the way some fanboys talked about it, you'd think it was the greatest thing since Pong or something. In short, the whole stealth genre is quite overrated IMO, and I'm still trying to figure out what the fuss was/is about... It's a good game, but not great, and certainly not outstanding. BTW, can anyone tell me where I'm supposed to go after I'm told to find and rescue the president? It seems like I'm going in circles and I'm trying to hold out from using a FAQ. Thanks.

i hope that's not the VMU from the Dreamcast Smile

I have been playing Super Street Fighter IV online every day now for about 4 weeks. I think its my favourite game. Some days i don't play for long but i alway play for at least 30 mins. I still play as Crimson Viper most all the time. I have definitely improved but most people are still better than me*sigh* i do really need to do some training but i just like fighting!

I just found this video. I think this guy is the best Viper player i have seen so far. I always find it really hard to fight against bison and Vega

Been playing Gears of War. The first one. It's about time, eh? My girlfriend recently bought me the triple pack which contains the first two games and all of the DLC for GOW2 (the DLC for GOW1 is all free). It was our anniversary and she got me a video game. Yeah, she's awesome. I finished Act 2 today, and I'm definitely enjoying it so far. It's not blowing me away, but it is really fun and since I know the series got better in the sequels I'm looking forward to playing them. I really liked the section where you had to stay in the light or get eaten alive by the Kryll.

Before that I was playing Wizorb, which I won't go into too much detail about because I already posted a whole thread about it. Summary: you should buy it. Trouble Witches Neo has also been getting some playtime here and there.

I also recently got Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes for XBLA. Originally a DS game, it is the only puzzle RPG since Puzzle Quest created the genre to be anywhere near as engrossing. The plot has actually been pretty intriguing so far, which is more than I can say about any other puzzle RPG I've played including Puzzle Quest (as much as I loved it).

I'm also almost finished with Cthulhu Saves the World. I once again have to say that if you like old school RPGs this game is definitely worth your $3.

That's been it since my last post, aside from a few games for the HSC forum. I guess inadvertently, classic gaming has taken a temporary backseat. I'm sure things won't stay that way for long though.
