OMG! Crazy Taxi on 360 and PS3!!!
RiKo
My dream has come true. Crazy Taxi (as well as Sonic Adventure) is being HD-erised and is goign to be appearing on PS3 and Xbox 360 soon. Sorry if this has already been posted but i missed it. I think they will just look like the Dreamcast games but with online functions and widescreen (i always wish DC game could be in widescreen). I am very happy Smile hopefully they will get rid of all that pop up from the original too. i hope it looks as good as the DC version cos Crazy Taxi 3 on my Xbox somehow looked a bit worse (in image quality terms) that the DC one. (The Dreamcast has a very sharp RGB output).

Thank you Sega!, even though im going to be paying £4-8 for a game i already paid £20 for 10 years ago - i really dont care Grin roll on Shenmue with the final installment included as a bonus Smile

RiKo: That is good news especially about Crazy Taxi. I wonder if its going to be a straight port (in HD) or if there are going to be some changes in the gameplay.

I´m too a big fan of the Dreamcast original so this is like getting an early christmas presentThumbs Up

THIS GREAT NEWS...
Now I'll just go and play Crazy Taxi on my DC, cause I know that even in a FURTHER decade, I'll have a hard copy of the game AND my console will still run flawlessly - just like the PS3 and 36... oh :(

HAHAHA...
just kidding... just kidding! Knock ya self out fellas... Wink

the new version we can all compete online for high scores, which is a big draw for me, and proper wide screen. but its still just the DC game

haha yes u are right ninja, the hardrive versions may not last too long. by that time you will prob be able to get compilations of Dreamcast games like you get arcade classics today - so we will be buying them all other again! well i will anyway . i still have my DC version so its all good Smile i wonder if they will have maps from all crazy taxi games or just the original 2?

Crazy Taxi is out in 3 days , unfortunately it lacks the Offspring/Bad Religion soundtrack and also some of the branded stores like KFC. personally i dont mind too much about the sountrack - it is iconic but ive heard it to death - but it depends on what they change it to. it would have been nice to have it though. it looks like there is no pop-up Smile

EDIT : much less pop-up (just spotted a little)

Looks like I'll need to put some Offspring and Bad Religion on a jump drive so the game still has the soundtrack I remember! I'm kinda interested to hear what they got to replace them though.

Seems odd that the game is coming out in 2010 and "10 in 2010" is being removed. Real Sad

RiKo
i presume you can use custom soundtracks, to recreate the vibe yourself - not quite the same, but close. haha yes thats weird i forgot about 2010, would have been very appropriate! i heard Sega were just being tight-ass not wanting to pay out to licence the tracks again. if i was the bands/record company i would have given it to them for free - they would have no doubt got some downloads on iTunes out of it

Here's some example images of how the branding has changed on the stores too, shame they had to change them too!

Hi Priest, i havent heard anything about that but i suspect they are the same more-or-less, they prob use a cross-platform middleware engine to make it, otherwise it would be a lot more expensive to make 2 versions. if you have both consoles you can prob download demos to see if theres any dif between them.

heres some more general info pulled from a review

Outside of not having the music or places I remember, other areas have also been reworked for unknown reasons. The voices for all four main characters have been taken from the PS2 and GCN ports – that is to say they are different from the DC original. They’re certainly not as good. They sound nasally and distinctly off. Plus the game’s handling mechanic has been pulled right out of its sequel Crazy Taxi 2, and not from the first game of which this is supposed to be a port.

The tighter nature of the handling is actually okay… just about. But at the same time feels more suited to the confined city streets of New York depicted in CT2 rather than here, in the more wide-open landscapes of San Francisco.

UMM whilst the prospect of a HD Shenmue is mouthwatering I honestly dont know how I will feel about them touching up a game that to me is already impressive enough. Look what happened to the supposedly superior Xbox version of Shenmue 2 that was promised that turned out inferior to the DC version due to its washed out colours ect.

I want Shenmue 3 like most of us do but how it would feel or any of the earlier games on a next gen console is something that I welcome yet fear.

For me the game just plain sucks without the Licensed music from the origional. The controls don't seem anywhere near the quality of the Dreamcast. Actually my PC version from the same time period has the real music and much tighter control after playing both back to back so I kinda wasted my dough on the PS3 version but how could any of us who played it back in the day pass it up ?

lol, speaking of old crap thats still fun on occasion. I haven't picked up Dragons Lair since I have already had the Digital Leisure Blu-Ray version as well as Space Ace for about a year now Smile

I spent most of the eighties, most of my life, riding around in somebody else's car, in possession of, or ingested of, something illegal, on my way from something illegal to something illegal with many illegal things happening all around me.

i know what you mean STE, i have Shenmue 2 on xbox too, it just wasnt the same off its native console. they did get rid of the slowdown and loading times were faster but that was about it. knowing Sega they would do a cheap HD update of Shenmue

Candy - that doesnt sound good:( i will give it a go on 360 and let you know what i think. the 360 stick is closer in feel to the DC analogue stick than the PS3 one, but it does sound like they have used a different handling model, so not sure it will make much difference

The PS3 is much twitchier than the PC version via 360 controller, the cars seem to bounce more. That always annoyed me with the original and seemed like Sega sort of copped out on the physics engine bye making the whole thing maybe a bit more sloppy feeling than it probably should have been.

That said it was the usual SEGA Arcade fare that was fun for about 10 minutes. For me Sega has always been at or near the top of Arcade twitch gaming Smile

haha yes the cars do bounce about like mad, sega has never been known for its realism, makes it good fun though Thumbs Up

---- my mini-review -----------

i have just been playing Crazy Taxi on my 360, i have to admit i quite like the slightly changed handling, its much easier to control than the DC one - without being too easy - its a lot tighter feeling - and i find it easier to get fare bonuses by driving close to other cars now. having said that, it would of been nice to have had a straight conversion of the DC original.

the pop up is marginally improved and theres no slowdown - but seems like sega just ported the game engine over because there shouldnt be *any* pop-up on current-gen consoles!

as for music, -it sucks, its just generic background noise punk/rock music. its too dark sounding for the brightness and funness of the game (hope funness is a word!) and they should have kept the original sountrack and paid a bit of money for it. tight asses! having said that you might be able to play the original tracks using the music player? someone will have to tell me if you can, i have never used it on 360. also yes the voices have changed and arent quite as agood as the original:(

a good improvement is the arrow on Original mode is about 100% better at pointing in the right direction, its not perfect but a big improvement on the DC version.

Graphically it looks pretty much the same as the DC one, though its great to have it in proper wide-screen

i had some good fun with this today and you cant go wrong with online leaderboards adding to the addiction. i do miss the branded stores a little cos i love KFC! (sorry chickens).
