My Backyard

haven't been posting anywhere for a while and thought I jump back in the fun : ) anywhoo

Just thought I would share the awesomeness that is literally 100 yards from my house.

I live on the fringe of the Las Padres National Forrest in Monterey County California in a small group of houses that sit on land owned bye a privately held Association that was purchased from the U.S.GOV. about 100 years ago.
We have private river access so we don't have to use the National Park area when we feel like getting wet ( we do have full access if we want to go there but its always loaded with idiots in the day use area ) which is nice when its 100F like it has been all week..

Its a great place for cool evening walks especially in the winter when the Camp Grounds are closed as there there are only about 16 people who live here year round.

Just thought I would share a bit since I had been talking about moving to a rural area with a few of you guys. Smile And yes the water is usually pretty cold.. Enjoy Smile

I spent most of the eighties, most of my life, riding around in somebody else's car, in possession of, or ingested of, something illegal, on my way from something illegal to something illegal with many illegal things happening all around me.

That must be amazing living so close to such beautiful scenery. I had a look at the photos and it looks very picturesque. Good to see you posting at the forum again Candycab.

Although I live in a city it's only a fairly short walk to get out into the countryside. Lincolnshire really is a beautiful county and I love going for walks and cycling.

THAT, IS QUITE OBVIOUSLY...
awesome! Who knew that you'd have the entire dogfight scenery from AirWolf in your back garden!? LOL

Seriously though, it looks amazing...

Any chance of some of your own photo's of the nearest area to where you actually live? It'd cool to see some! Grin

LOL ... I haven't seen Airwolf in ages, great show when I was a kid, kinda hard to watch these days though.

Yeah I can break out the camera and throw up some pics sometime in the next few days or so. I have to say that having been born and raised in this area we all take the scenery here for granted most of the time. It still amazes me that people come from all over the world just to go to Monterey/Pebble Beach etc, god knows why ? There isn't a damn thing to do here other than look at the scenery.

The San Franciso bay Area is horse of another color with tons of stuff to do but, I guess people from there feel the same as we do here. Most of the time its just home and nothing particularly special.

Every once in a while it does hit me how special nature can be and that I'm pretty lucky to have been conceived here rather than some oppressive hole in the desert somewhere Smile

very nice Candy, i have a strange relationship with nature. sometimes i really appreciate othertimes i dont even notice it and i crave lights and loud music. i have a very strong memeory from when i was younger and on holiday in Germany in the black forest area (on a holiday with my parents). we were just seeting off on a cycle ride on a sunny day and i looked up throught the trees to the sky and i was thinking this is beautiful but why is all i can think about Final Fight and Area 88 on my SNES? lol that was so sad but very true haha. i had just got my snes and had to go on a holiday a week after, all i wanted to do at the time was play on it!

looks like you live in a very nice area!

finally got around to taking a few pics

First is my front gate from the road [ The Bug & Mustang covered & GF's wagon in the driveway] then looking from the gate to the national Park entrance and US Forestry Station. Shot of the sign adjacent to the entrance. A shot from the center of the road in front of the house gate looking opposite the National Park.

Onto the river which is located about 50-100 yards behind our house, its the main swimming hole area that is private to folks in our association. All the river shots are looking upstream in the same area of about 200-300 yards up stream & 50 yeards at the widest point and about 15 - 20 feet deep in the center area.

Great photos Candycab. The scenery looks beautiful there and you're lucky to live so close to that. Pretty cool that you and the other residents have your own private area of the nearby river to swim in.

Yeah something like that, Ive been told it could mean "The Parents" as well.

The river is definitely a good time on hot days and very relaxing Smile

If you ever want to know what are weather here is like just look up weather for King City California and add 10 degrees, most of the year its in the high 80's and almost always over 100 during the summer Smile

I have some more pics I will put up later, just random stuff outside.

Almost forgot to say you can get some idea as to how all these pics fit together since the mountain/hill you see in the 2nd river pic is just behind and to the left of the park entrance. The river flows under the bridge you see just past the park entrance.
