Need your advise = Jamma 60 in 1 or mame?
arcadematt
Hi I'm starting a new project and have a cabaret cabinet. I am installing a 15" lcd monitor vertically and I'm in two minds which route to take.

Option 1. Buy a 60 in 1 jamma PCB and be done with it. I have got a jamma loom and everything else to complete.

Option 2. Put a PC inside I would need to find a free vertical mame front end. If anyone knows of a good front end that looks good, much like the 60 in 1 setup would be nice. I used mamewah on my other mame cabinet but i dont think you can flip it so it runs vertically.

Ive heard that the 60 in 1 is very good but basically only uses mame roms so they will play the same regardless of which route to take. What route would you take. I only want to play vertical classic games as i already have a mame cabinet with a horizontal setup.

Thanks in advance

If what you say about the 60 in 1 JAMMA PCB is true that it's still basically MAME, then option 1 is quite out of the question as option 2 leaves you potentially with more options and games...just a bit more expensive though. Option 1 is cheaper and easier, but has also more restrictions because option 2 will give you more games to play. If I remember correctly, all MAME emulators can be flipped to run games vertically.

Thanks for the response. Mame is'nt the problem flipping vertically. Its the frontend i need to view vertically otherwise I will have to tilt my head when selecting a game.

I'd definitely go for option 2 ArcadeMatt. There are loads of vertically scrolling games on Mame and the 60-in-1 pcb sounds a bit limited by comparison.

As for frontends well I don't really know much about this subject but I did some googling and found out that MALA, VertiWAH and ArcadeEPIC are all vertical front ends. Some people were saying that MALA is the one to go for. Here are a couple of vids where you can see vertical front ends.
