Samurai Shodown SNES Review
Samurai Shodown (Super Nintendo/Famicom)

Review Introduction:

This is Samurai Shodown/Spirits on the SNES (Super Nintendo).

Although It plays like the original, the 12 fighters (Including Amakusa as a secret playable character), but getting used to a 6 button game in this port can be tedious. (Since Using Hard Attacks require you to hold either the L or R trigger then any attack button.) Plus the SNES Version includes a Dedicated VS mode and a Timed Mode called Count Down (License Play in JP Version, but the title of the mode doesn't make sense than saying Count Down), in which you have 3 Minutes to defeat all the enemies if you can within Unlimited Health.

The Graphics leave a lot to be desired, although its like the original, there have to be a few sacrifices to put it in this 16 bit port. Missing Animations, Zooming Effect is gone, The Character Sprites are tiny, Blood is Orange, and all Instances/References of Death/Religion/Etc. and the Fatalities have been removed.

Sound Effects & Music:

The Sounds and Music is mostly the same as the original, but since this is a 16 bit version, its all in MIDI sounds and Music.

Although SS for the SNES seems like a dull choice, and for its time, the Arcade Version, in my comparison, is much better than this one.

Extra Stuff:

To play as Amakusa, At the Takara Screen, in order, press B, Y, X, A, You'll hear Amakusa, meaning that you unlocked him, but he is only playable on Versus and Count Down modes.

Graphics: 7/10
Sound: 7/10
Game play: 9/10
Replay Value: 8/10

Overall Rating: 8/10
