Fun and sometimes useful DIY projects
candycab
Im constantly looking at the Hack A Day and Endgaget websites for cool new projects that would be fun to build and maybe have some use afterward.

I think this would be fun, fairly simple and as useful as you want it to be.

These LED mods would be very cool to have around too Grin

light sculptures

Ok ... So I had to add this since it is medtioned in the AV switch how to, its a good refresher for those who are a bit rusty or a nice intro for anyone who may want to consolise a PCB Grin

I spent most of the eighties, most of my life, riding around in somebody else's car, in possession of, or ingested of, something illegal, on my way from something illegal to something illegal with many illegal things happening all around me.

Cool stuff, though I doubt I'd ever get one of those projects off the ground. Let me know if you make any!

Those laptop console projects are always cool.

I always wanted to build my own supergun, but it's having the time/patience really. As for the video switcher, I have a few of them but I bought them as I'm too lazy to make one myself. Definitely VERY handy to have though! Grin

While this doesnt really fit into this thread too well I thought it was interesting enough to mention.

This is something I could totally use for setting up my projector from time to time [ though its DLP so its pretty stable after inital setup, unlike CRT/LCD that tend to change dramatically as lamp hours accumulate ]

I think this one looks harder than it probably is, if I can figure out where to source the parts locally I may give it a go. I need to get my solering skills back upto a servicable level though, I would probably be glob master for awhile Grin

Figuring out what to use to program it may be a pain though ?

Its in french so use the Fish

I'd like to build a scanline generator to use with a GBS-8200 CGA/RGB2VGA scaler (the cheap ones on eBay). Rather than purchase an relatively expensive slg-3000, I though it'd be interesting to try out the project on mmmonkey's site. Also, it seems beneficial to me to apply the mod to the scaler itself instead of having a daisy chain of different devices, connectors and leads.

However, as I really hate soldering, I thought I'd have a go with one of those home PCB etching kits. I haven't done this since Year 8 DT, but if I managed to make a working board back then with flashing lights and a motor, I'm sure I must be capable of something similar all these years later.
