Two things to consider:

since the controller is used it will have a worn feeling to it. I don't know about you, but I really dislike used pads. I consider it like buying someone else's shoes: just too personal. As soon as possible you'll want to buy a new pad (yes, they still exist) on Amazon.

Recently I was able to invest in a 19" LCD monitor (purchased solely for the Dreamcast) and a VGA box. This is to achieve the maximum visual output the Dreamcast has to offer. The RCA adapter, in my case, didn't matter. It depends on what experience you are looking for: basic or arcade quality, but I recommend buying a monitor and VGA box (and VGA cables) ASAP. Just be sure the monitor or TV supports 640 x 480 res because that's what the Dreamcast put out.

If these aren't issues, then go for it. Not trying to sound like a Dreamcast elitist, just trying to save you (and other potential buyers) a trip from going it the hard way.

Found a used DC, locally. It includes all AV hook ups, one standard pad, one rumble pack, one LCD memory card. Includes three games, Sonic Adventures, NBA 2K2, AND Slave Zero.

Guy is asking $35. Is it worth it?

Need to buy a DC, quickly so I can buy Gunlord.

YES, I WOULD SAY...
that $35 for the system complete with MemCard, Rumble Pack & 3x games (condition dependent, although your mileage may vary) is pretty much spot on price wise (as a complete 'unboxed' DC system is probably worth around $20 - 30 depending on condition)

It's time 2D.

Time to become one of us:

One of the "Dreamcast Boys".

(that's right!)

Bit the bullet, bought the DC. It's in pretty good shape, no scratches, and non-yellowed. The guy also threw in a lightgun (in great condition), and a burnt copy of House of the Dead 2. I was pleased , to say the least.

Thanks Tobal and Ninja! Your input is greatly appreciated. Next step is to pre-order Gunlord.

ALSO...
just a quick update on Sturmwind guys: the website looks to have been a little updated > the original static page and also, yesterday, some new screenshots were added.

http://sturmwind....

NOTE: In case no one knew, Sturmwind actually started out as a Jaguar game in development called 'Native'.

You kind find some screenshots of it in the Jaguar section of the site. Also, if you have the facilities (a BJL or Skunkboard, I presume?), you can always download the files, load them onto your flash cart, and try out the first level for yourself! Wink

ANYWAY...
the game is shaping up exceptionally nicely. Could easily be HD'd for todays more modern DLC 'marketplace' offerings imo, it looks that good! Smile

Funnily enough, I've just been investigating the current Sturmwind situation myself.

Nice screen shots on the website and the dual covers are pretty cool. But still no word on a release date.

Now, I was under the impression that the game was complete and the delay was due to the CD pressing facility going out of business. But now it turns out that the developers are adding SD card support for taking in-game screen captures. That's great, but it's not adding any real value to the final product.

In spite of best planing, the release of Sturmwind has to be postponed: Our long-term CD-ROM manufacturer surprisingly had to declare bankruptcy after 19 years in business. From 40 employees only a few remained. Therefore this resulted in the situation that the scheduled delivery date for Sturmwind could not be met in the end.

The only possibility has been to relocate the production – to avoid further delays of the bankrupt facility. Nevertheless items like the spaceship models have been completely manufactured already. Our new partner is one of the largest videogame CD / DVD press plants in Europe with over 50 years of experience in medium production. In the meanwhile we already placed our production order for Sturmwind.

If the game really was complete and the production order had been placed (that was posted on 19 December 2011), then why are they posting on FaceBook about adding SD support recently?

Apparently there have been problems with Red Spot Games, but I'd really like some sort of official statement regarding what's going on.

You bet your arse I did. I originally ordered the RE DC version, then saw the second trailer and decided to "upgraded" to LE --- since I'm really digging the soundtrack. I can't be arsed to buy Dragon Box, as I'm already spending major bucks ( by my cheapskate standards) getting hardware for this one game.

Recently, I bought A used Agetec DC stick, especially for Gunlord. I really need to buy Sonic Shuffle too, since I now have 4 controllers. The trick will be finding 4 people to play it with. I'm such a lonely egg...

Today I received two additions for my Dreamcast / Shenmue collection:

First off a sealed and complete JAP version of Shenmue. I already own a couple EURO versions of the game so this one is for my collection, I got it relatively cheap too:

Then I got this Shenmue demo; What´s Shenmue. This is supposed to be relatively rare...? Funny thing is, I payed twice as much for this demo as I payed for the actual game. No big money, but stillSmile

2D, go get your hands on the Power Stone games. They're both awesome and the second one is 4-player. Along with the Capcom vs SNK series, they're the last few DC games I'd like to see available on PSN/XBLA.

Four player online PS2 would be fantastic. I'm not sure if it's actually possible for CvS to get a re-release, but you'd hope Capcom and Playmore could sort something out.

Agreed Powerstone games are the biz, I actually prefer the sequel which makes me in the minority.

VERY NICE PRIEST..
I must admit, almost anything Shenmue related has that 'pull' about it. I also own the JP version, but not sealed. I tried playing it a while ago (after finishing the PAL version, again!) and, it was actually really weird, with all the different voice acting and all. It's also, near enough, unplayable - unless you know the game like the back of your hand!

I SAW A SEALED PAL/EURO COPY...
on eBay just the other day for £200. Expensive, I know... but tempting! Wink

REALLY? IS THAT TRUE...
that the 'majority' prefer the first game? I thought it was just me! I'm really not all that keen on PStone2 and LOVE PStone1! It just seems less hectic and more balanced really. Sure, there are plenty of objects to utilise etc, but the 1st game is all about the fight at heart. The 2nd game gets too messy and distracting for me. Also, I miss not having 2x attack buttons too, personally.

Overall, I just think the feel, presentation and approach, on the whole, is just much better. The 2nd is nowhere NEAR being a bad or even average game, it's just not for me vs PStone1 Smile

I like the first game best too Smile Most magazine reviews i have read also prefer the first game - really for the same reasons you say. I think the sequel is great though - how a sequel should be done in my opinion - so it's not just more of the same but different. I always thought Rollcage should have been the sequel to Wipeout 2097.

There have always been a lot of people who have said that Wacky Races had cel-shading before Jet Set Radio. But it seems that actually Looney Tunes Space Race may have been the first....

Well, it's been a couple years since I picked up a DC, and overall, for the price I paid, I'm still satisfied. (I dropped about $350 into it for two MAS sticks, a converter and about a sixty games)

However, my endearment for the system is not as intense as it is for my 8-bit and 16-bit consoles. This is probably because I was raised with stuff like the NES/SNES/MD, and their games and experiences are engrained into my upbringing.

At any rate, a great experience can be achieved, especially if you have physical friends (which I am lacking currently:(). As far as the physical system, I have mixed feelings. The stock pads are odd... They're not nearly as ergonomic as, say a Saturn pad, and the layout is a bit confusing. The actual disk running is noisy! This noise can seriously detract from the experience, especially if quietly playing in a small room. Lastly, the consoles were poorly made: cut corners and cheap parts. It is a miracle if you have a DC that works perfectly now... I'd give the physical system an overall "D+" or a little mediocre.

The games kick ass though. Like I said, lots of fun-looking multiplayer games (Nintendo 64, eat your heart out!), as well as engrossing solo action-adventure games. There are simply too many to list — best find out for yourselves! I've not even gotten close to trying half of my library. Smile I give the game selection a B- (pretty good) when talking about the American selection; I raise the grade a whole letter to an A- (pretty excellent) when UK/Japanese games are taken into account. I'll be keeping my DC for years to come.
