Sooo this week weŽll do Fatal fury I as our weekly HSC. This is because Puzzle Bobble have already been covered in the HSC section. Please join in the GAME OF THE WEEK discussion thread too, if you havenŽt already.

Fatal Fury I GAME OF THE WEEK discussion thread:
http://www.neogeo...rowstart=0

This could well be the most ugly looking cover art for a game, Fatal Fury I US cover:

The rules:
* Play whichever version you like: NEO GEO AES / NEO GEO CD / NEO GEO MVS / MAME
* Difficulty: 4 / MVS Setting
* Lives: Default setting
* Credits: 1
* Multiple runs as training is of course allowed. Also if you manage to surpass your previous score then just post it and IŽll update the first post.
* No cheating with any kind of UNI-BIOS is allowed.
* No cheating in Emulators such as autofire, Pausing or infinite lives are allowed
(or any other effect you can use in emulators to make the game easier, score higher etc)
* Photographic proof is not needed as I believe that we are all honorable people. If you like though you can attach a photo or a mini-clip with your highscore.
* State which platform you played this game on.
* The goal: Highest score possible.
* A link to "The NGFL Highscore hall of fame": http://www.neogeo...ad_id=1380
* How to present your highscore to make my work a lot easier, EXAMPLE:
User nickname: Score: , Character: , End level: , Difficulty level: ...and other facts
There will be no closing dates for the different HSC threads. They will always be there ready to accept new challengers. But I will start to award the winner a medal as soon as scores are posted. And as I said the challenge will always be there.

Yeah, I only wish those who used to be in NGFL before stated that it would happen one day, now there gone. Hopefully the regulars may play it and acheive.

Hey, I've been planning to get my score on here but I always end up getting stuck doing other things. I am sure I could get a 1cc run with all the bonus stages complete, no cheating =D
Just need to find a way to get a good photo because I would be playing it on my PS2 and SD TV.

Also can't remember if it was the SNK Arcade Classics or Fatal Fury Anthology which was the most legit because there are obvious, if very minor, differences.

Hi Hexelf, I would love to see you entering a HSC and look forward to seeing the results of your 1CC run...
Whats the difference between the versions? You play the version that meets the conditions of the HSC rules (obviously )
Good luck...

Hmmm, my copy of FFA is currently AWOL but I managed to get a crappy screenshot of the high score I got on winter-een-mas this february. It was played on the SNK Arcade Classics at Level 8 though so I dunno, make it a placeholder or something ^^;

1 credit completion
Score: 287300
Character: Terry Bogard
Difficulty: 8
Version: SNK Arcade Classics vol. 1
Format: PS2 (60hz)

Hehehe thanks for the clarification of that screenshot, Hexelf. I was about to ask what the score was
Hmmm Good job Hexelf. Seeing that there is no one else on the scoreboard exept The Stray, I guess the second place is yours. Is this OK?
If more members post scores then I will do a second scoreboard for your score.
When you get the anthology back you could do another run following the HSC rules to see how you do (If you have the time and feel like it), thanks.

Hexelf: On that screenshot of yours there are even higher scores with the same "signature" entry (BAD...?), arenŽt these your scores too?

Ah, they are but as you can (hopefully) see they don't end with zeros meaning they weren't 1cc runs. I usually keep going even after losing in order to get some practice from the latter stages of any game, or just to see the ending.

OK sounds like a good tactic to get some extra practice. I would like to be more like that, I often end a gaming session too soon after losing a couple of times...Must improve my patience

HexElf: I hope thats a placeholder, and yay for 2nd place, needed some competition, other than that, don't bend the rules a bit, although it would be nice If we challenged ourselves to play in higher difficulties, but I'll stick to defaults. Besides, its best to leave it on a balanced setting. And 2 the FFA is Based on the AES Versions with difficulties such as Easy, Normal, Hard, and MVS. V.1 should have listed that difficulty as Insane.
Priest: Good luck on it.

Hmmm that's a lot to comment but I'll do my best...
- Yes it is intended as a placeholder, I was merely trying to kick up the discussion on the matter while I was trying to locate my copy of FFA. In the meantime all I had was my winter-een-mas scores on some PS2 ports of the games - some of which were played on level 8 just for show.
- On difficulty. It really depends on the game. If you play World Heroes 2 or Jet as an example it doesn't matter what difficult you use as the AI will be the same. But I digress, it should be MVS just as you say, just to avoid confusion.
- Yes the SNK Arcade Classics lists difficulty 8 as insane, but I thought listing the difficulty as Insane would be confusing. Guess I could have just added an (8) in there though.
Note that I wasn't super happy about posting special case score there but I did at least make sure to mark the correct 1cc score rather than the highest one - since it used more than one credit - to try and make it as serious as possible.
(Warning, a very long, possibly overly egomanical and pretentious story ahead)
((I couldn't find a general discussion topic to move it into, but I will if needed))
Anyway,
I must say that this entire discussion peaked my interest on the HSC and even my interest in the Neo Geo which has honestly been in a bit of a slump lately - especially since my HD screen (which doesn't have a slot for scart cables) replaced my SD TV. So my Neo Geo has been residing in it's box for a while and I didn't even touch my PS2 ports for months now because it's just such a hassle to make a temporary setup and move furniture around every time I want to get some SNK-time. My apartment is great and all, just kind of restricted when it comes to that kind of stuff.
But then winter-een-mas came along that event in particular, which is about completing as many games as possible over a weekend, was a bit special for me since I took it upon myself to play as many SNK games. Sure they are very quick but also challenging and as time went by other people attending the event really seemed to get more and more interested, especially with my struggles with the SNK boss syndrome! And after completing 20 of them, many of which I never actually even played on level 4 or above, I had a whole new appreciation of my collection. Before I usually I just wanted the endings but playing for 1cc and just generally showing off was a whole new level of fun - it just required something beyond personal amusement. Like the winter-een-mas event... or a high score challenge!
Fatal Fury is one of my all time favorite games however so when I saw Priest's post on here I figured I just had to get in on the action since almost no one else did. So I pulled out my SD TV to at least get my winter-een-mas score out of the memory card. And I also looked to see what other games were on the list. Somehow I had gotten it into my head that only the GoW were on there but it seems most SNK games were represented at a quick glance. And looking at what characters were used in some of the fighters were even more inspirational.
- People use Haohmaru in Samurai Shodown when Charlotte is obviously the best character? - What there's no Raiden in Fatal Fury 2 or Special, who else would you use to beat those cheap-ass projectiles??
On top of that, as I was looking for my copy of FFA which is MIA at the moment, I was thinking that yeah I could play these on emulators or ports but some of the people on here used actual copies of the game. And hey, I do have some copies of these games.
So right now I am planning to take a day or two to move some stuff around in my apartment and see if I can't set up at least a temporary score challenge arena.

HexElf: Nice Story, I too live in an Apt., but not needed rearranging like you do, appearantly, I too have copies of MSA and SSA, but sold KoFXI and NGBC for lateral reasons. Although I don't have a PS2, I still have my games anyway.
Priest: Don't worry, there's much stuff I need to tell you in certain HSC's that require another rule or two.
