Ironclad AES/MVS
merlin
I'm sure some of you have already heard about this but for anyone who doesn't already know shortly after the Neo Geo shooter Ironclad was released recently on the Wii Virtual Console the rom for the game was taken from the Wii download and is now available on the net. It's actually the original prototype MVS version which was never released!

I found about this myself from the thread at neo-geo.com:

http://www.neo-ge...p?t=205130

Already people have started making MVS and AES copies of the game. Here's a recent auction that went for $499!

http://cgi.ebay.c...0456890477

Also here's a video of someone playing an Ironclad AES cart.

Thats cool as I have always wanted to play the game and the NGCD copy is very expensive although I could not afford the MVS one either its nice to know more people will get a chance to play it. I do not own a Wii but could be tempted to get one if rumours about Sega bringing out Model 3 arcade games on multipacks are true.

MVS version... Hurrah!

AES version... Sigh.

IDIOT!...
whoever paid $500 for a hacked MVS of Bri'kinger is a right tosser!

ALSO...
I'm not sure what to make of this whole episode. On the one hand, I'm happy, that finally, the proto MVS version is finally available for PPL to enjoy via Wii VC... AND at the same time, I'm impressed that PPL have been able to take the ROM and create, in effect, a long-lost MVS & AES release. however, at the same time, it feels completely wrong that someone has taken a current sale product and in effect, pirating it for a HUGE profit. If someone wantd to take THEIR own VC rom purchase and write it to their own personal MVS or AES cart of choice... well, that's up to them. I think it's more acceptable that way... but to sell these on, especially at those prices, just seems plain wrong. Guess, in a similar (but different way) it comes back to the similar conversions argument, but in this case, involves a new available release (via VC) that IS currently and vastly/widely available.

Hmm... a difficult one. Not to be a TOTAL hypocrite, but if I had an AES or MVS, and someone offered me a 'flashed' cart (relabeled etc) for say, $50 MVS or $100 AES... based on the fact this game was NEVER available for said platforms... I'd probably take one Shrug

SAY...
for every MVS/AES hack that is created (separate argument there!) that whoever is responsible put's $9 down on a DL version from VC? At least that'd be putting money back into the game publishers? Or indeed BOTH purchaser & creator! Heh... maybe in a perfect world eh? Hmm

$500 though? That is f*ckin' ridiculous!!!

I'd buy this game on AES if it was 90-110 max, otherwis i won't bother. I'd prob pay 30-35 for a MVS version.

I would imagine that both MVS and AES versions sacrifice a game cart, unless they have starting making new MVS carts.

If anyone wants this game on cart I'd suggest waiting a while. I'm sure it'll come down in price once the initial shock factor wears off. But I have to say it is awesome that an unreleased NG game is finally seeing the light of day. Up next: Ghostlop!

It's pretty exciting news that finally people can play the MVS version. I agree that $499 is ridiculous. I think that was probably the first one to appear on ebay and obviously someone with a lot of money was desperate to get their hands on it. I'm expecting a load of Ironclad carts are going to start appearing on ebay and like Reelmojo says the price should come down if people are prepared to wait. It's quite likely that eventually the game will also be added to 100+-in-1 carts too.

Ninja I can see your point about the piracy issue and people making a huge profit when the game has only just been released. I hope people who create an Ironclad Neo Geo cart will also if possible actually buy the Virtual Console release too. Hopefully Playmore will consider releasing other games on the VC that were CD exclusive too like Crossed Swords 2. It'd be nice to have the original MVS versions of those too.

By the way if anyone wants to try Ironclad you can easily emulate the Neo CD version using Nebula.

While the Ironclad rom becoming available is great news personally I'd be more excited about being able to play Neo Geo protos which were never released for any format. I did read recently at neo-geo.com that a member there who was one of the people involved in acquiring the Ghostlop proto cart and who also made the rom available has managed to get hold of 'Fun Fun Brothers' by ADK. It's a Tetris style game with a Blues Brothers theme. The game has been dumped but the rom hasn't yet been made available. I think it's highly likely that eventually (hopefully) we'll be able to play this game too.

I agree with the ninja its daft money to pay. If somebody was to offer this for 50 ( no more ) then I would consider this a pricey but fair deal on a MVS pirate cart, as Merlin was saying it may well turn up on a new multi cart which i would maybe get if their was other games on it that i did not own such as unreleased prototypes and other NGCD exclusives. I do not agree in booners making greedy profits off Neo owners but unfortunately this kind of thing goes in hand to what is the most hardcore obsessive type of retro collecting the world of NG.

Snkplaymore should just go on and release Ironclad for MVS and AES now, then pirates wouldn't have a chanceAnnoy and it could sell fairly good maybe, it would be a nice comebackSmile Not fairly realistic thinking but who cares..

you can get Ghostlop on cart btw, someone on NG.com offered me ages ago. He said he uses broken MVS carts

I agree. It was just outright mad that someone forked out $500 for a game they can make for $50 and buy on VC for $10.

Nobody should be paying more than $130 for this cart in a presentable condition (Polished).

I would make a tutorial on how to make one but I don't want SNK suing me for it.

The game isn't even that great as well. I wish they did Crossed Swords 2 first or even Sam Sho RPG.

As for protos I would love to play Last Odyssey. Looks like a cool pinball game to have, the one game I wish did exist but was only rumored was Neo Pool Master. If Nazca made a pool game it would probably be a system seller.

I found this rather interesting link about this "mysterious" game:

That's an interesting article Priest. I noticed he has updated it recently too. There must still be some actual prototype MVS carts for this game out there somewhere considering it was exhibited at shows. There's a lot of other interesting info on that site too about other proto games. Well worth checking out.

As expected Ironclad prices on ebay have come down a lot as more carts are being made. I remember seeing an AES version buy-it-now auction for $699 a while back but now it's a lot less.
