Tekken 6 - is it worth getting?
RiKo
Think this may be out now. I love Tekken 3 and Tekken 5, but the reviews I have read for this haven't exactly been glowing - average graphics and very similiar to Tekken 5. Reading in between the lines I am wondering if it is as good as Tekken 5 too? bit like how SC4 was probably worse than the original Soul Calibur.

It sounds good that it has such a huge character roster though. Least they give you value for money, without making you pay for extra content.

Has anyone played it? what do you think?

Haven't played it yet but I've heard generally positive things about it. The review at Fighter's Generation might change your mind... although he spends half of his time reviewing other online reviews. There's still some good info in there that made me want to try out the game. It's definitely a rental first for me though because the Tekken series just hasn't been able to grab me since Tekken 3. I have 5 on my PSP, and it's fun and all, but I just can't get into it the way I do with some other fighters.

No, because it suffers from being 3D and therefore shite. Smile

Who didn't know my opinion on that one. Smile Helpful, no.

naturally its been out in japan for ages but i havent played it. watched other folk play though. i dont think its been huuugely popular but it certainly hasnt bombed either. actually im not sure! ill take a look - usually i just go straight past it to sf4!

*if you liked 5, i reckon that youll like this though.

thanks for teh comments, just that i read a couple of reviews and no one seemed that enthused about it, though at the same time they never said anything bad about it. maybe they were VF fans!

Thanks Reelmojo, that review has made me think it may be worth getting. I thought TK5 on PS2 was pretty amazing - not just that they had got back to decent gameplay but also the graphics and audio were pretty amazing.

I'm looking forward to playing online too. I'm not too sure about the adding of depesperation moves/combos. I think those belong more to 2D games, but I'll see how it goes.

I BOUGHT THIS LAST THURSDAY...
and it's pretty damn good. Admittedly, at first glance, it doesn't seem all that different from T5, but, dig a bit deeper (if you care enough?) and spend some time in practice with your faves and you'll see where all the work has gone! Heihachi is my main and luckily for me, not much has changed there... mainly improvements to be honest. However my 2nd in command is none other than Jin Kazama himself. Now he has seen changes. He's not quite the beast he was in 4 (yet) but with some good ol' fashion practice from me... and he will be. Potential is not the word Wink

IF YOU LIKED T5...
then you'll love this. I deliberately skipped buying T5DR and carried on with T5 on PS2 until this came out... I just couldn't justify 15 on a DLC game FFS! So T6 was well worth the wait IMO. Fuck... at some point I may even play the damn game, but I looove my training Grin

Maybe to add to the collection when it's cheaper, but at the moment not interested.

Don't ever listen to Frankie Yagami's reviews of FightersGeneration.com, he is biased as hell when it comes to two things - Street Fighter and Tekken.

While Tekken 6 is a fine game and all, the netcode is terrible, so unless you have local players to play with, it's gonna get dull really quick.

Also considering it took Namco two years to get this game out on consoles... there isn't all that much there really. The campaign story mode is kinda lame, and the CPU in the game is dumb as ever.

The only thing interesting about this game is the new characters really, namely Miguel and Bob, my favorites. The rest of the cast on the other hand, they really don't feel that different from Tekken 5.

Otherwise, the game is still Tekken... you juggle like a clown lol.

WHO THE F*CK...
is Frankie Yagami?? What a stupid combination of names!

ANYWAY...
I had also heard that the Netcode wasn't too hot, but haven't left training yet to give it a go really. As you say, luckily I have lots of PPL to match-up against as all my friends, and friends friends (etc/yadda yadda) play Tekken, so it's all good.

I THINK LEAVING THE GAME...
for around a year is sensible (BR was Dec 08), so that the Arcades can garner enough revenue back to justify purchasing the Arcade game in the first place. I for one have an original T6 down the road in a local Pier Arcade... and I used to go for an hour after work (in the summer!) and have a good go. Truth is, and even if the machine was 'BR', I probably won't bother with it again, as nothing compares to actually having the ability to have your own practice arena and choice of controller too... plus the comfort of your own home!

As for the Campaign mode... haven't tried that yet, but as you have so very kindly indicated, it does look a tad lacklustre. Can't truly say 'til I give it a proper go though!

REGARDING THE CHARACTERS...
I kind of agree that the characters 'I use' haven't differed massively from T5 (esp. Heihachi) but the likes of Kazuya & Jin have been altered for the best. But to me, the actual game itself feels different to T5, even if the characters don't. It's not a huge difference, but I can feel it.

AS FOR...
being able to 'juggle like a clown'? Can't argue with that! Fuck, you can even take opponents back off the floor and into the air... still, if you like Guilty Gear and Blaz Blue, then this game might actually be for you Pfft

I wish they could reduce the juggling slightly in Tekken, though I don't really mind it in Tekken. I was was actually quite impressed by the amount of content in this game, esp compared to most other fighters. 2 years does seem a long time though, its good to have delay so they can balance up fighters etc when they find probs in the arcade version but 2 years is a bit long. Having said that I'm still waiting for Afterburner Climax.........

I never played Tekken 6:( I did play Tekken 5 in aracde though and on the same day I went home and played the PS2 version. I did actually notice the arcade had better graphics - more polygons on the fighters. Its the sort of thing you don't actually notice though unless you have teh opportunity to directly compatre versions. I always thought the PS2 version looked pretty amazing anyway though!!!

have owned every Tekken game since its very first outing on the PS1, and I have to say, T6 is awful.First off: the lag. T5GrinR lagged a LOT on PS3, but even that runs at a lightning pace compared to this game. The latency in online matches ranges from just about bearable to horrific, with the latter occuring most often. Coupled with my next point, this results in an entirely unplayable game.Ok, so now I'll move on to the 'improved' juggling system. Every character now has access to what can only be described as 'bounce' moves. These moves reset the juggle state (yes, even during an active regular juggle) which basically allows you to create endless death juggles. This *might* be excused if it was actually possible to escape the launchers , but when the game is so laggy that you cannot even try and block the incoming launchers then even the most unskilled of opponents can kill you with little resistance. Lastly the new characters. Lili was without a doubt the most n00by character ever added to a fighting game back in T5GrinR. But if you thought she was cheap, then you are in for a shock in T6. EVERY single new character is a cheap, floor hit geared cheesemonger. Overall, the game plays a little slower than previous Tekken games, and appears to actually be made for people who like to continually hit their opponent so they cant get up until they die. Although not as popular, VF5 is wildly superior to this dross. (Im not impressed, Namco)

There was a good review too, but it wasn't very informative so not worth posting. the juggle system sounds crap though - the jugglng in the previous games was fine - why increase it? also don't like the sound of 'slower speed'. having said that the mention of VF5 rings alarm bells. Someone who likes VF is umlikely to be a big fan of Tekken. I know i don't get on with the VF series so far

WELL...
I like both VF & Tekken and they both co-exist happily in my world. I like them both for different reasons... but unanimously because ultimately they are both fighting games!

I must admit... the juggle capacity in this game (T6) is quite extreme, like near guilty gear extremity in 3D terms! If you can be arsed going that far with it, I reckon 100%'ers are pretty doable. I'm not a wanker though, so I don't bother with all that cheap shit. I do keep some decent juggle combo's up my sleeve though... just in case Wink

Oh... and this game is far from being slow!!!

Just got my copy yesterday and i love it. I only put in about an hour. I played arcade mode and campaign mode. It improves on everything from tekken 5 dro and that's saying alot because tekken 5 dro was AMAZING. I do agree that there was no need for increased juggling capabilities but I don't mind it. There will always be new ways in each fighting game to dominate your apponent. You either learn them or you get smacked around by people who have learned them. I highly recomend giving Bob a try as he is one of the coolest new characters I've ever seen. As for the story mode. I think it got a bad rap from many reviewers. Yes, its not that exiting of a story that you'd want to pop some popcorn and invite a bunch of people to "experience" the drama...but it is quite fun and to me its not a bad little side game at all! I think it's unfair to judge a fighting game based on a mode that is purely an extra feature anyway. Haven't been online yet with it. But I won't worry too much if ther'es lag because there's a strong possibility that namco can fix it with patches just like snk did w/ kofXII. I don't know if it's my location or my connection level or what, but with the recent patches to kof XII...i experience NO LAG whatsoever. Hopefully i will be lucky with tekken as well, and if not, arcade mode and local 2 player modes will be enough to make this game worth the price to me anyway!

Thanks Michael nice to hear a postive review of it. sounds quite good then esp if like me I missed Tekken 5 HD so it will be fresher to me than people who have been playing that for a while.

Ninja + Powerwave. VF seems worlds apart from Tekken to me, I really want to try VF5 sometime. I did have VF4 + VF4 Evo, but i couldn't get into it. First up the gfx were a bit rubbish, secondly it seemed overcomplicated to even do some simple moves. I like the Tekken system of one limb per button much better, and its more fun in general.I will give VF5 a go sometime........

I love Tekken 5: DR and i think Tekken 6 is a great game. They gave Kazuya (my fav character) some great new moves, i haven't tried most of the other characters yet. Bob has really good moves. I'm ok with the new juggling system. Graphics are not the best but animation is great but i don't like some stages. Especially the stage with ships, looks stupid for me. Online play was laggy but i read on fightersgeneration Namco will release a patch for it.

I think if you like Tekken 5, Tekken 6 is worth buying.

riko i think that in time you can learn the way of vf and when u get into it theres no turning back. took me a real long time to get into at first, i realy didnt like it. i think vf5 is probably the easiest to get into of all the vf games so it may be worth you starting with that one, although alot of us say vf 4 is the best thats probably through experienece and probably isnt the best one to start with.
