Your most expensive Neo-Geo game
viktorh
I'd like to know what Neo-Geo game you have paid the most money for, how much it did cost you, and if you play it or just let it collect dust on a shelf. Smile

I have never bought any really expensive game myself. I paid around 220 EUR for Metal Slug 3 US AES a couple of years ago, which is the most for me so far . I later sold that game to Priest.

Hi Viktorh Grin

I love MOTW. I had it on MVS, so I wanted the AES version. I bought one off Ebay for about 220. But I had some EBay vouchers so I ended up paying about 180. Was still the most I have ever paid for a game ever!! I can't think of any other game I would pay that much for. I was tempted by Last Hope at one point, but its just too expensive. I think I would go to 200 for Blazing Star but its more than that now on Ebay.

Hi!

That sounds like a great deal for that title! I'm a Last Hope fan myself, and have bought the NGCD version. As you say, the AES version is just too expensive. I've heard that NGDEVTEAM's next title will be a vertical shmup released on the MVS format.

Viktorh I'm also a Last Hope fan like yourself. It's a great game but I wouldn't want to buy an AES copy though. The Neo CD version is probably better anyway because it's not quite as insanely difficult.

I always said I would never go above 400 for a game and I've stuck to that. My most expensive is Blazing Star which cost me 376. It's in near mint condition and I've seen it for a much higher price than that before. I bought games like Metal Slug, Twinkle Star Sprites, Pulstar etc. on CD instead to save money.

All the Neo Geo games I've bought, whether cheap or expensive, are all ones I enjoy playing. It would be unthinkable to me to own a game like Blazing Star and not play it.

Recently its been 45 quid for Metal Slug 5 MVS which actually aint to bad, but i recall when i had a AES in 92 i paid about 165 for Art Of Fighting which sounds insane now but at the time it was the hottest game in the arcades. Regardless off what i pay for games i always play them as thats what they are for & it always feels great playing a game you know you have worked hard to buy. I bought Gley Lancer last year for Jap Megadrive, 70 quid but best shooter ever in my opinion & i play it often. These people who buy games & are scared to play them are crazy ,cartridge games are not like cds they are very robust if you look after them. I often recieve some very rough looking MVS carts off ebay that look like somebody has been playing fooite with them & luckily i have not had a dud yet it shows just how durable neo carts are

I'm sure my answer has to be my Waku Waku 7 Saturn import, but I'll be damned if I can remember how much money it cost me. I don't even remember if I bought it on Ebay or somewhere else. The fact that it was also 99% of the reason I bought my Action Replay cart adds to the price a bit too.

Powerwave
my most expensive game was blazing star mvs for 95 pounds which is a little too much but i realy wanted it bad

cthulhu
500 Euro for a mint AES Blazing star...I play it regularly off course. Most expensive after that was Twinkle Star Sprites, also mint for 400 Euro.

INDEED.

I wish I could find one at an affordble price (authentic, not some glued together crap).

Oh yeah, I forgot...I recently paid $27,000 for Kizuna Encounter.

I guess mine is the unfixed version of Samurai Shodown 5 Special (US) for about 300
yet I don't regret it Smile

Just out of interest Yao what does fixed mean is it a mvs/aes conversion

The fixed version is a reprogrammed version, not a conversion. Read about it under "Censorship" on this page:

Kurisu
Jap Blazing Star and Pulstar for AES both over 400 (gbp)
Jap Magical Drop 3 for AES over 300 (no instructions)
UK Metal Slug 3 for AES over 200

All original carts.

Plus, quite a few carts between 100 and 200, the best of which was a conversion of Neo Drift Out. To balance that up, many of my AES carts cost under 50. What is interesting though is that if you were to compare cost to actual usage, then Thrash Rally is probably in my AES more than any other cart and that was very cheap!!

As I've said here before, both my wife and I work, the kids have left home, and collecting is very much our main interest (me games, her bears) so we are very lucky to be able to indulge ourselves. Again, as I've said before, it's not the price, it's the value (VFM) and the potential return on investment. Would I get my investment back on all the carts mentioned above? Of course, perhaps not on e-bay, but what would a Metal Slug enthusiast pay for a mint MS3 to complete his collection? Much more than the above I would guess. Likewise, I have refused to buy games costing 10 because they are not good value.

In my collection now?

Metal Slug 5 JPN AES (which I'm looking to trade off)

Mr Vengeance
100 or so on a Japanese boxed The Last Blade on the AES, in very good condition. About the same on KOF '98 on the AES in the same level of condition also.

I've always said I wouldn't go too far over the 100 mark on any of my Neo Geo games, though Garou at about 300 has been very tempting as I know I'd cherish it always and play it lots. The Last Blade 2, if I could get it for about 150 might be a possible purchase too, but I'm trying to be as thrifty as possible with my game purchases as I'm a struggling student with little disposable income at the end of the day when my bills are paid.

Money permitting someday I would like to buy at least one AES Metal Slug and a few of the more expensive titles that I want, but until then I'm going to have to stand by my 100 rule.
