My Mission to Watch Every Video Game Film Ever!
RiKo
Many thanks for reviewing RE : Extinction Merlin Thumbs Up It's great to get someone else's opinions on the film. So far Apocalypse is my fav RE film. I wonder if you will like it as much as me though.

Yes please watch Mario bros film Merlin sometime. Feel free to review any videogame films on this thread. Anyone else who wants to post a mini-review is more than welcome.

I have Dungeon Siege Tale (with Jason Statham - he is in all the best films. lol) and also first RE film and 2nd Tomb Raider film to watch next. Not sure which I will choose though Smile

No problem RiKo. Like I said I really enjoyed the film and I wasn't expecting that.

I've found another two films to watch on Youtube: Street Fighter - The Movie and Super Mario Brothers. When I get around to watching them I'll post in this thread again.

Super Mario Brothers

eeek! Well you're a braver man than I lol

Well I did watch it on TV a few years back and it was just terrible. Just watching that movie makes you feel horrible. I hope you counteracted the evil by watching a good movie afterwards.

...hence normality in the universe was restored Smile Yay!

A good game is always a good cure for a bad game movie.

Shame that they only talked about 3 movies there, wasn't particularly in-depth either but still funny to watch.

This may amuse - an article about bad moments in videogame movies but complete with video clips for the more daring viewer lol.

I actually enjoyed the Doom movie as well as the first-person bit, albeit in an cheesy kinda way. However half of it is Uwe-Boll lameness. Enjoy!

Oh no this thread was actually below my 'Forum Members Meals' thread!! Shock

Resident Evil

Alice (Milla Jovovich) wakes up naked in the shower (yes we've all been there. lol). She has no memory and finds a piece of paper near her bed that says 'Today all your dreams will come true'. Obviously she must dream a lot of shuffling zombies, zombie dogs and mutated lickers, since these are the nightmarish creatures that she will soon encounter in The Hive (a contaminated underground Umbrella research base). She is forced to join a crack 'swat' team as they attempt to assess the contamination and make the facility safe. As you migth guess the contamination turns out to be the T-Virus

I'm pretty sure this is nothing much like the game, even though i have never played the first Resident Evil, although I thought it took place mainly in a mansion. The mansion features here only briefly and there are never any zombies inside it.

I really liked this film, was very tense and has plenty of action, I also thought the acting was surprisingly good for this kind of film. I mentioned before that I liked Resident Evil Apocalypse (the 2nd film) and I think this is better overall. I would compare them a little to Alien and Aliens, in that the 1st film can rely on tension and fear of the unknown, whereas the 2nd has no choice but to beef up the enemy threat and increase the action and violence.

The film has an interesting plot too with a couple of twists, and is made more interesting in that they also have to battle against the 'Red Queen' the computer which controls The Hive's facilities.

I give this 8/10 - very good for a video game film i thought. Like the other RE films and VG films in general it benefits from not following the games exactly. The ending is a bit woolly, but is obviously designed to set up the sequel, which will be set in Racoon City itself.

Let me know if you agree or disagree, would be interested to hear other people opinions and marks out of 10 for this game. Also maybe it is more like the game than I realise?

In The Name of the King : A Dungeon Siege Tale

Boll KG!!!! ok so its a Uwe Boll film. This film reminds me a lot of the type of film there used to a be a lot of when I was younger - its in the same mould as Krull and all those other fantasy adventure films e.g. Conan, Never Ending Story etc. The first thing that stikes you about the film is the cast. Ray Liotta, Burt Reynolds, Claire Forlani, Jason Statham, Ron Perlman - quite a famous cast for a film based on a video game

The story : Farmer (Jason Statham) peaceful life is shattered when his home town is invaded by a of legion Krugs. His wife is kidnapped and his infant son is killed. He sets off on a quest of vengeance with his 2 best friends and fellow villagers. Ray Liotta plays the evil sorcerer who commands the Krug army and ultimately Farmer must break into his stronghold and kill him if there can be any hope for the kingdom. Cue big battle sequences and lots of boomerang(!) throwing from Stratham.

This film is a bit rubbish really, at first it was vaguely amusing, but after a bit you realise it is a slightly boring fantasy adventure film with hammy acting. There is no hammy acting from Stratham however who does his usual straight-to-DVD-film slightly-lacking-in-charisma no-nonsense hardman role. To give you an example of how no-nonsense he is - he doesn't even cry when his young son is brutally slaughtered. This film is just about watchable mainly because there is a lot of action, but its definitely below average and not really worth seeking out. And its not even as good as the films I used to watch when I was younger.

YouTube Video

The story of this film is very reminiscent of Lord of the Rings but in terms of quality can't compete.

3/10

lol Priest. I guess you're right. I saw him in one of those Transporter films and he was good in that, but he does always seem to play the same character in every film. There was some film recently he was inwhere he would die if he didn't continually charge himself up by plugging himself into the mains or rubbing himself against people.

That´s CRANK or CRANK 2 high voltage. I have only seen Crank but that movie has some hilarious scenes.

The Transporter films are great lots of car chases and action.

You brits should be proud of Jason StathamSmile

Great reviews RiKo. Strangely I can't remember if I've seen that Resident Evil film or not. Apart from the third one I've definitely seen either the first or the second one. I do remember though it was a pretty enjoyable film. As for Dungeon Siege well I'm a huge fan of the Dungeon Siege games on PC but I think I'll pass on the film especially now I know Mr. Boll is behind it.

Ok I just watched the whole of Super Mario Brothers on Youtube. The link is in one of my posts above if anyone wants to watch it. I'm going to give this a 5 out of 10. Obviously not a great film but if you don't take it too seriously it's pretty amusing. The best thing about the film was I think Dennis Hopper's performance as King Koopa. He's always very watchable whatever film he's in. All in all the film was surprisingly entertaining.

Soon I'll watch the Street Fighter movie and will report back.

I have never played the Dungeon Siege games unfortunatley but I'm not sure if the film was based on them particularly.

lol Thanks Merlin, I am planning to watch it again so I can review it properly - thanks for your review btw Smile I still have Streetfighter and all the Mortal Kombat films to watch!!! I'm actually feeling quite excited now.

The only 2 video game films worth watching are Street Fighter II Animated Movie (which is one of my favorite anime movies) and Mortal Kombat 1.

Jesus Jodec - I wish you'd told me that at the start and I wouldn't have bothered! LOL

I plan to watch both of those, I've seen MK1 + 2 but was a long time ago. I've never seen animated SF movie:(

Hope it's not off topic to mention this here but it seemed like the appropriate place. I was just reading the other day about a documentary that's being made about the Japanese game centres: 100 Yen - The Japanese Arcade Experience. After watching the trailer I'm really looking forward to this. The film is set to come out in Autumn 2011.

http://www.100yen...

By the way has anyone ever seen the film 'High Score' before? It's about a group of retro gamers who are big fans of 80s arcade games and one of them is determined to beat the Missile Command world record. Sounds interesting. I'd like to watch it some time.

http://www.highsc...

Have you watched any more video game related films recently RiKo?
