Azusa Hara was a woman.

Eh, I was going to say, glad to see this thread getting bumped. Anyway, has anyone mentioned Fighting Fantasy/Hippodrome? I actually enjoyed it, compared to many other early fighters. Also, has Caveman Ninja been mentioned? They actually made a sequel that plays like Adventure Island 4, which, as some of us may know, is based on Wonderboy III the Dragon's Trap. Smile

Another thing I've noticed is the old games have "DECO" on the title screen.. I know it's trivial, but can someone explain the acronym? I assume it's "Data East Company?"

Azusa Hara was a woman.

Then that explains why her icon in the Dragon Ninja credits screen is a young female face.

Has Midnight Resistance been mentioned yet? That game kicks some major ass arguably better than Contra! The music is very limited, but very well done. The Genesis actually has a better arrangement than the arcade ver.!

I can't get this song out of my head. Smile

Both the arcade and MD / GEN OSTs are equally good. They have their own different flavors. The arcade version has the classic Data East feel like some of these other Data East arcade games:

Called The Great Ragtime Show in Japan, this is one dynamic and dramatic horizontal shmup! Very colorful and upbeat, and the cool thing is that you can grab just about anything while flying the plane (even enemies!) and ride just about anything when the plane is destroyed. I'm talking from bicycles to cars to elephants and even mobile missile launchers. You battle againts giant airships, tanks, and even a huge Santa Claus! MAME it up...you can't go wrong.

Tesu!

Gave this game a try recently and was impressed with it. It's quite a bizarre game to say the least but fun to play. Aside from flying around in planes and riding various vehicles you can also be on foot and even ride on the backs of giraffes and elephants! One stage has a giant ferris wheel rolling around and later on you get to fight Santa Claus! Well worth a look.

Heard good things about Midnight Resistance I really should give it a go sometime.

BOOGIE WINGS...
= Empire of Steel on steroids, much?

(more likely, vice versa!)

Looks great though! The whole ability to dynamically engage the enemy in many differing ways, even after your craft is destroyed, is very original and mindbogglingly absent from many other games in the same genre!

I found this:

Fighter's History was mentioned, but not other Data East titles.

I'm been having a ball with Outrunners for Genesis/MD; Data East did an excellent job of converting. The mechanics are very arcade-like. My only gripe is the screen is split always!

Data East got a lot of my money back in the days of arcades! So it's a company I have found memories of. My personal favourites includes Dragon Ninja, Midnight Resistance, Crude Busters and Windjammers! Wish a compilation cd of their greatest hits would be released just like the Midway collection.

If you have a Wii TF73 you could get the Data East Arcade Classics collection.

I know about that one, but don't think it have been released in Pal format!?

merlin
Ah I didn't realize it wasn't released in PAL format. That's disappointing. Hopefully in the future there will be another compilation.

Back in the day I played Badudes often and then would go home and pretend with my sister that we were on level 2 (the one where you were on top of the 18 wheeler beds) many people consider that game one of their worst but I will always have fond memories of it.Grin

Anyone here play any of the Glory of Heracles games (Heracles no Eiko)? I'm considering getting the 3rd one for the Super NES.

By the way, is Joe & Mac for the Super NES any good?
