NEO GEO AES - JAMMA modded
priest
I was browsing Ebay and found this:

http://cgi.ebay.c...2|294%3A50

i3.ebayimg.com/06/i/001/2a/61/b9df_1.JPG

i15.ebayimg.com/07/i/001/2a/fb/8936_0.JPG

This is a modded AES to make it work with any JAMMA standard arcade cab or JAMMA standard supergun.

This must be pretty unusual (I have never seen one) and somehow also useless, since a NEO GEO MVS single slotted motherboard would be cheaper to buy (not to mention, cheaper game carts).

But at the same time interesting and fun to see these different mods people do to their AESSmile

Thats a nice idea - but as you say more expensive than an MVS, and it makes your AES dusty!

I wish my AES could play arcade games like Capcom CPS1+2 and Jamma PCBs - that would make me happy Smile

RiKo: You should get a supergun that is if you donīt / canīt get an arcade cab. This way you would be able to play the systems you are reffering to amongst others.

I know that you probably have thought about this, just thught I would "remind" youSmile

Ah yes - I have been looking at a few Superguns recently - the consolised variety. The thing is I don't really get to play as many games as I would like as it is - so I am going to put it off for a while. I know I will cave-in and buy one in the end though - its just a question of when!

Yes I remember you told me about how to play CPS 1+2 games on the AES Collection thread - I have the info filed away in my mind. Thanks Priest Grin

I really want to play Carrier Airwing, and Double Dragon (although obviously not CPS game). Priest - can you play games like Chase HQ and Outrun, Space Harrier on Superguns? I love those games - I hope you can - I have no space for cabinets.

Riko: As long as the games you want to play are JAMMA or you have an adapter for the specific system you should be able to use them on most superguns.

The games you are mentioning though like OUTRUN (not JAMMA) and CHASE HQ do need a steering wheel to make the games justice (You may be able to controll the games but not in a good way)

What you should be getting if you want a big games collection in a hurry is to get a "1069 in 1 Gamebox"

If your main purpose is to play the games and not necesarily collect the pcbs then this is a great solution. I have one of these babies myself and its working perfectly. And you donīt have to think about systems or motherboards - S I M P L ESmile

That's a very unusual modded AES system Priest. I've never seen that before. Although it's a clever idea I wouldn't want to own that.

Priest that 1069 in 1 gamebox really appeals to me. I do sometimes think about buying a cab but buying loads of PCBs would cost quite a bit and take up storage space so that gamebox is quite tempting. Do the games look and sound the same as if you were playing with the original PCB for that game?

Merlin: What I have noticed, there is no problem with any game (such as lagging or sound problem) 100% true to its arcade motherSmile

I imagine thereīs people that experiment with the size of the Gamebox internal memory. I havent done this because I think the games are working perfectly.

OMG! - that's amazing Priest! - Un Aquadron (area 88), Double Dragon, Kizuna Encounter, Mark of the Wolves, R-Type , Altered Beast, Golden Axe - I am in heaven!
- not too keen on playing Metal Slag though Smile

Is there any way to play this on the TV via RGB. This would be great for me - because I really don't mind whether I have the PCB's or not. I don't have space for a cab. Though now I am tempted to chuck some furniture out Smile

Thanks for the info Priest Smile I'm seriously tempted to get one at some point but need to think about it a bit more though. There are so many great arcade games in that list and it would cost a fortune to buy the ones I want as PCBs.

Before you replied I had a look at a thread at neo-geo.com about the gamebox and people who owned it were happy with it. A few people said that Mortal Kombat 2 runs very slow and so is not all that playable but even if that's true I don't really want to play that game anyway.

To go a bit off topic I was thinking of buying a cab at some point from coinopexpress.com. Does anyone know if that is a good place to buy from? I don't see many candy cabs on ebay that are in the UK.

I bought my first New Astro City from them, it's been refurbished and looks awesome. They were very responsive and the whole deal went really well. The only problems are that when you buy only one cab, the shipping costs (for me to the Netherlands) are extremely high and the shipment is only to the port of arrival, you'll have to either pick it up yourself or arrange shipping from the port to your home, finally taxes and costs of declaration are really high (at least in Rotterdam the were). So only do this if you have a shitload of money at your disposal...personally I think it was worth it.

RiKo: I would imagine the Gamebox will work with a Supergun. I havenīt tryed myself yet though, might try it someday though...

Merlin: No experience from dealing with "coinopexpress", sorry. But Chtulhu seems satisfied. About the slowdowns, like I said nothing I have noticed with my "box" Smile

Chtulhu: Metal slag is one of the bootleg versions on the "box" which is still a minority among the "legit" games. Like most multicarts the "box" too has some bootleg version of the biggest titles. I just ignore them.

Thanks Cthulhu. Smile Although that does sound very expensive and a bit of a hassle I might end up buying it from them. I never see any candy cabs for sale in the UK on ebay or anywhere else. I've seen pictures of your cabs Cthulhu and really like the look of the New Astro City. I've never actually played on one before though. I was thinking of either getting a New Astro City or an Egret II. I just wonder as well how the regular Astro City compares to the New Astro City.

Priest you've convinced of the merits of that gamebox. Thanks for mentioning it. I'm particularly keen to play all those classic Capcom side scrollers on a cab.

RiKo maybe you should chuck some furniture out and make room for a cab. Grin Just to confirm what Priest has already said I read that someone at the neo-geo.com forums was using the gamebox with a supergun.

From what I understand, there aren't many differences between the Astro City and the New Astro City except that the New Astro City has better speakers and thus better sound.
The Egret II is an awesome cab, especially if you want to play both horizontal and vertical games on it...it has a rotating mechanism which lets you rotate the screen pretty fast and easily. Rotating the Astro and New Astro's monitor is a pain in the ass...you have disasemble the front and top, Loosen some wires, pull 40 kg horizontally out of the cab rotate it and put it back and assemble the whole thing again. This takes between 15-30 minutes and it also takes 2 people to do it properly. You can alway lay the cab on it's back as it's easier that way and you can do it alone...still a pain in the ass though. This is why I bought a second one...I now have one with a horizontal and one with a vertical monitor. The biggest reasons why I bought a New Astro and not an Egret II were because the Egret II was a lot more expensive and I like the Astro City design better (also spare parts for the Astro City are easier to come by).

I can definitely understand why you bought a second cab Cthulhu. Rotating the monitor sounds like a real pain. I think there's a good chance I'll end up buying a candy cab from coinopexpress probably in the next 4-5 months. I will keep an eye on eBay though just in case something appears. Thanks again for your advice.
