Raystorm HD and Air Gallet both look great - where can they played? are they on consoles?

You'll be able to play Raystorm HD on your 360 but I'm not sure when the release date is though. Air Gallet is arcade only unfortunately so Mame is the best bet for that one.

I can remember you saying how much you like Mars Matrix RiKo. I did actually play through the whole game on Mame recently. Excellent game but I found it extremely difficult. If I ever get myself a DC I'll most probably pick up a copy of this.

RiKo
Yes its a hard b*stard too!! thats why I like it though, I like really hard games even if I do badly. Its like whipping yourself with spruce branches before jumping in a sauna.

Wow thats good, for some reason I thought Raystorm might be PS3 only. I hope games like Gunhed and other old shooters come out on download too. I am thinking of getting rid of my PC Engines now, since I have Neo Geo and SNES. Maybe I have to get MAME on my old Xbox, since I don't use that much now I got Flatout 3 and Outrun HD.

You can get a new version of R-Type too on 360 (maybe PS3 too) you get old R-Type as well included. The new one is the same I think but with new graphics. I'll try and find a vid and see if its any good. It got a good review if I remember. Download games rule, I hope you get to keep them though if your harddrive goes funny many years later Shock

okay I found it, its called R-Type Dimensions and it this vid he swaps between the old + new graphcs. It may be 360 only I'm not sure. This is better than R-Types on PS1 for me cos that was a bit slower being 50Hz (I have UK machine)

R-Type is still great even now. I find it really hard though! Shock

Nice footage RiKo. I hadn't heard of R-Type dimensions before. I haven't really spent much time playing any R-Type games yet. I did just buy R-Type Final for PS2 which is excellent. I don't know if you've already got it but it did get a Pal release too.

I don't normally mention my videos in the forums but I put one up a few days ago which might possibly be of interest to some people here. It's some gameplay footage of the Neo Geo shoot 'em up 19YY. I'm not saying it's an amazing game or anything but I think a fair few people have never seen it before.

R-TYPE FINAL...
was cool, but for me, Delta was better. BOTH great games though Thumbs Up

AS FOR 19YY?
Indeed, never heard of or seen that one before. Pretty average, I know, but looks fun! The bouncing enemies reminded me (with screams!) straight away of Cannon Fodder. You could keep those guys 'alive' for ages Grin

Cheers for posting the vid/link

haha yes I like your vid Merlin Grin

No I'm afraid I dont have Final, although I have always meant to get it - before I got a PS2 was one of the games I was intending to buy. I do like Ninja have Delta though, you could maybe play that on PS2 with filter thing turned on and make it look better Smile

SIMPLE...
man-up and use CRT. CRT > Plasma/LCD/OLED Headbang

I HAVE...
far many more consoles than need CRT over flatscreen. I'm not fekkin' gettin' rid of my 29" CRT just 'cause of the PS3! (ooooh & BluRay! Nice as it is, it's not a necessity to me).

I have a CRT haha, no I just meant I thought there was an option on the PS2 to improve the texture quality when you play PSOne games. I only ever played Parappa the Rapper on my PS2 but I didn't use it Smile

I just have a SD TV. I like to play me Neo Geo best on my other small TV for some reason.

DARIUS BURST for PSP...

Heres a weblink to Taito's Darius Burst site. It would appear they're working on a PSP only Darius sequel(?) from the looks of things. Lets hope it's more forgiving than it's prequels Shock

Looks interesting Ninja. I've never played any Darius games before. I seem to remember there are a few on the Saturn so I should check those out at some point.

I just wanted to mention that the Neo Geo CD shooter Ironclad (Chotetsu Bri'kinger) is coming very soon to the Wii virtual console. I don't own a Wii myself but it's great news that more people will be able to experience this great game. I think it's only being released in Japan at the moment unfortunately but hopefully it'll become available for Wii owners worldwide.

I may just buy a Wii to play it as it goes for silly money on NGCD , but from what I have heard and seen it looks amazing]

MERLIN WAS KIND ENOUGH...
to send me a YouTube link to one of his videos of IronClad. Whilst it looked fun (and is played from a unique perspective) it doesn't really look like it's a game worth buying a Wii for! Christ!! However, if I had a Wii through personal preference, then I would definitely pick up 'Brikinger'. truth is... I plan on a buying a Wii the day Tatsunoko Vs Capcom is released (in the UK) so chances are, one day, me & Iron Clad'll be getting it on!

STE if you want you could always try Ironclad out with an emulator. It's always possible as well to actually burn a copy of the game to play on your top loader. That's not something I've ever done but I know a lot of people do that.

Glad you found the video of interest Ninja. I think you'll actually really enjoy Ironclad if you get the chance to play it sometime.

I like the different ways you can use the pod attached to your ship in the game. You can leave it attached to your ship which increases your firepower and absorbs enemy shots or you can detach it and have it firing independently of your ship. It's nice to have a choice of different routes in the game and also pretty cool that there are a total of six different final stages in the game with their own unique final bosses.

I just discovered a little known SFC gem called Rendering Ranger R2. It's half Contra style run 'n gun, half horizontally scrolling shooter. Calling the run 'n gun sections "Contra style" might be a bit unfair because they're actually a bit more complex than that. Stage 2 actually reminds me of Duke Nukem 2. The scrolling shooter sections are sometimes really crazy, and sometimes more methodical. I'd recommend it to anyone who's into emulation but if you're looking to buy be warned that it normally sells for over $100.

Also, it's worth noting that even with the graphics looking this great, there's never any slowdown.

Mojo - I know a little a bout that game - the first thing is that its the most expensive game you can buy on the system!! - used to fetch over 100 but haven't looked for a while. ALso the developer was Manfred Trenz - the guy behind the Turrican games. The reason it uses rendered grahics was because of the ACM gfx Rare used in their Donkey kong games - they actually decided to change the gfx to rendered graphics to ride the wave of enthusiasm for them. It's a good game though, and a rare example of a quality Western shooting game.

As you may know I am discovering the delights of PC Engine shooters (and there are hundreds). What I am enjoying is discovering some of the lesser known titles. Yes, everyone rightly goes on about Gunhead and the Soldier series, R-Type I and II and Image Fight, but some of the real classics are games such as W-Ring, Final Blaster and Override. The latter is just incredible for the amount of sprites it shifts around with absolutely no slow-down at all. When you think some of these are only 2-4 Meg HuCards it is astounding. For those who haven't experienced the PCE, think of something between a Master System and the Mega Drive, but only the size of a packet of crisps!
Go forward for make away as joystick. Push A button for approach of enemy. Break of enemy for A and B. Make high score for break get together - Neo Mr Do!

I've been playing this really unusual shooter recently on Mame. I've never come across anything else quite like it before. A very unique type of game. It's called Change Air Blade and is a versus shoot 'em up. One person is at the bottom of the screen and one at the top. You can also turn into a boss and unleash some very powerful attacks. I'm really enjoying the game so far. Anyone else here a fan of this one?

Also I found out some interesting and quite surprising shoot 'em up news. DoDonPachi DOJ is being released for the PGM 2. I wonder if they will make any tweaks to the game like they are said to have done with the PGM 2 release of KOF '98 UM Hero.

HEY MERLIN...
I actually watched the majority of that video (it ends at 10:10... leaving a mysterious and unwatchable 5mins!) and really enjoyed what I saw... looks great.

As for the concept, the nearest thing too it, that I have seen in more recent years, would be Senko No Ronde - the difference being that you actually face each other as opposed to chasing - very similar concept though. No doubt, CABlade did it first Grin

Here is some arcade gameplay footage of the sequel: Senko No Ronde DUO

As you can see... it looks pretty damn cool! But should we expect less from the likes of GRev? I think not...

I had heard of the Senko No Ronde games before but knew nothing about them not even that they were shoot 'em ups. Yes you're right there is a definitely similarity with Change Air Blade there. Watching that Senko No Ronde video it does look very cool like you say and possibly I might consider adding the 360 version version to my collection in the future.

One of the things that makes C.A.B. so appealing is getting the chance to play as a bad ass shoot 'em up boss like a huge spaceship or giant tank and unleash bullet hell on your opponent. Feels very satisfying.

Here is shump that I enjoy a lot, Cybattler. This game is awesome in my opinion, although it can be hard. The thing that I love is that you get a beam sword. I suppose most people would think this game sucks due to the lack of insane power-ups. But, I recommend that any shump fan at least try this baby out. I know I love it.
